Judgment Day Also Gone from G4?

Victor Lucas just posted something on his message board about how Judgment Day will no longer be on G4:

http://bb.elecplay.com/viewtopic.php?t=7545

Hey Everyone,

Thank you all so much for the continued support! We know you all must be wondering what is going on with Judgment Day. Judgment Day was born when we decided that the most popular segment in our long-running show, The Electric Playground (celebrating 10 years on air in 2006!), needed its own half hour. That segment in EP was called Reviews on the Run. Reviews on the Run is its own show that has been airing in different markets outside of the US for quite some time. Judgment Day was the US version of the show which we created exclusively for G4. As of the new year we have stopped making Judgment Day for G4 but we are continuing to produce episodes of Reviews on Run, which will be airing throughout 2006 and beyond in our current syndication. We will be making some exciting announcements very soon about Reviews on the Run in regards to new increased distribution. We're working to make the show available to everyone that has enjoyed our reviews in the past and to a whole lot more people as well!

Also, new episodes of Electric Playground will start airing this spring on G4 and all of our other networks outside of the US. There's more stuff brewing and it's a bit too soon to talk about everything just yet. Stay tuned for more info and thank you again for your tremendous support and encouragement. If anyone is interested in finding out the latest information on our shows please stop by the www.tallarico.com or the www.elecplay.com message boards.

All the best.

Vic and Tommy

Thanks for watching Electric Playground, Reviews on the Run and Judgment Day!

This is the most incompetent network I've ever seen in my life. And considering networks like Fox and Cartoon Network, that's saying something!

Damn, that was one of the last shows I actually enjoyed watching on G4.

It was much more interesting watching Victor and Tommy argue over a game rather than sit through X-Play and its brand of "humor"

I wonder if he thinks G4 has turned into complete shit.

If he does, he won't say it. G4 still runs one of his shows.

Sucks about JD, it wasn't the place to go for reliable reviews, but it was entertaining and occasionally funny

AAAAANNNDDDD thats officially the last time my TV ever turns to G4. JD was the last good show. Now its 24 hours of Fastlane and Star Trek...

Don't forget the man show!

Eh, it sucks, but we can at least be happy that Electronic Playground will still come on.

G4 seems to be purging any ties it had to gaming. Man Show/Car Channel seems to be what their shooting for now

I've always enjoyed Judgement Day. Sucks to hear it won't be airing on G4 anymore.

With JD gone, what does that leave for actual VG-centric shows, X-Play and Cinematech? Attack of the Show is more like a hip Screen-Savers IMO.

Agreed. X-Play is painful to watch.

EP and AotS aren't bad shows at all, imo, but this network is just an abomination.

This was my favorite show on the channel. G4 sucks for cancelling it. They also cancelled Call For Help... again. Just disolve the network already, its a complete failure.

I'd say that's the last I tune into G4, but I haven't tuned since about April now. Once the Whip Set crap started, the writing was on the wall. I used to watch Tech TV and early G4 every single day, too.

Tommy is giving out a lot of info on his forum and some dish on G4's stupidity. He claims that Reviews on the Run is going to another network by their choice and that JD was always one of the highest rated shows on G4 (probably true, but that isn't much of an accomplishment).

Tommy said:
Reality is we have ALWAYS been one of the highest rated shows on the network and we are NOT cancelled... we are just moving networks and keeping EP with G4. This way we'll be on mulitple networks which will ultimately increase our overall viewership and reach.

thanks,

Tommy

Reviews on the Run is still playing outside of the US. In fact there have been 4 episodes that have already aired (that G4 did not play).

We will make sure that ALL of the episodes that aren't playing in the US will be viewable for the public.

T.T.

He said they are talking to a lot of networks but also hinted that they may put the show online like many other shows are doing now. I hope they do this because subscribing to or downloading RSS shows online is easier than setting your Tivo, it also means you don't have to deal with schedule changes, repeats or the inevitable fickle cable tv cancellation. And the best reason of all to put your show online is the ability to do HD or near HD programming (see Gametrailers.com).

Great questions!

G4 influenced the show a little bit. They never wanted us to review kiddy games which I would always fight over because I thought it was funny to review really stupid stuff like Barbie's Ho Adventure or Ashlie & Kate's horse riding fun... the latest one I wanted to do but they wouldn't let me was the Hello Kitty skateboarding game! I would have had some fun with that one!

They also wanted us to review more mainstream games as opposed to the super weird stuff... which I disagree with as well. As long as it made for a funny & interesting review (and t.v. entertainment) then I think we should review it. Who cares if we give some dumb lame-ass 20th version of a sports game a 7.5.

:D

I would imagine (depending on where we end up going) that we will start to do some more obscure and wacky titles.

We had a SUPER COOL Executive Producer over at G4 named Rick Damigella. We REALLY loved working with Rick and he became a very good friend over the last couple of years. He'll still be working with us on EP (I think). He was pretty bummed that he wouldn't be working on JD with us anymore.

Tommy

Vic & I have actually been discussing adding a new segment to EP in which we pick a relevant game topic and discuss it for a couple of minutes. Similar to what G4TV.com would do. We would pick things like... Sequel-itis and lack of originality in certain franchises... or what we think about Nintendo's new controller and what it could or couldn't mean to the industry.... etc., etc...

So it would almost be like a mini JD but without talking about specific games... just opinions on the industry in general. Kinda like an editorial.

What do you guys think??

I used to watch both too... Now I barely watch G4. And it's usually not for the gaming, it's for ATOS and sometimes the anime series they show. I don't mind that the station is imploding, I just wish they didn't take Tech TV with it.

Hey if you were a TechTV or Screen Savers fan you better be watching/listening to www.TWIT.TV and www.DL.TV

It also looks like they've now brought back Fresh Gear for download in the form of InDigitalOnline.com. Revision3.com also has a bunch of TechTV-like shows from former TechTV/G4 hosts. Of course you can just subscribe to all of these shows through iTunes podcast section. TechTV didn't die, it just went online.

Unfortunately the only way to get Call For Help in the US now is through it's dedicated bittorrent site.

Let's see now, there's X-Play, Icons, EP, cinematech... and thats about it. :\

Maybe they should just drop the channel altogether & make a videogame block on some other channel.

Or of course they could have just not killed off Tech TV's programming, and they would have had more than enough original content.

Another network eh? Say, which network has recently been adding video game shows to its line-up? SpikeTV. Or, which network plans to? MTV. Those're my guesses, and both are fine by me -- my stupid cable package doesn't include G4 (or SciFi... stupid local Comcast ho'z).

I forgot to mention that Kevin Rose (from TechTV & G4) mentioned on the latest This Week in Tech podcast that Diane Mizota (G4's former Filter host) was going to co-host a show with some other people as part of a new online show for his network, which I believe is Revision 3. Just more G4 drama for the masses.

Yeah the first episode of InDigital covering CES is already up and available for download. It is very good and definitely a nice addition to Revision3's growing lineup.

There is a possibility that the RotR could end up on MTV or MTV2 since Reviews on the Run is on MTV Canada. I didn't know this but according to Tommy Reviews on the Run (Canadian version of Judgment Day) episodes were actually a little bit longer than JD because G4 would show more commercials attached to JD. Just more reason to say good riddance to the abomination that was G4.

do they still have the show where you watch some dudes play socom? what about the show where a struggling model reads cheat codes? because i don't know if i can go on without those shows.

Wow, I like Tommy a bit more now, knowing that.

Anyway, I'm looking at my digital cable. Here's the G4 schedule for the next 2 days:

3:00 - 4:00: Braniac
4:00 - 5:00: X-Play

That's just to put things in perspective.

Wow. That's actually kind of disgusting in a way. They really did purposely kill this station.

So, how much longer until the name is changed completely or they at least drop the "Videogame TV" in their logo. Right now, it's a lie.

So are we gonna see VH1 or Muchmusic pick up these shows that have been cancelled or something? Some other network could benifit from the cast of G4tv.com, Jugdement Day and Filter.

Do you think we will see another video game channel in the next couple of years? G4 was really good right after the merger, then it started getting rid of all the Techtv staff.
At least in Canada we get "Call for Help" with the guy from Screen Savers. Not sure if you get that in the states.

Well, weekends are a lot lighter on actual gaming content and lacks AotS, so that's one thing. But, yeah, really...weekdays aren't much better.

My lord, I felt like I was at a cemetery looking at all those old, forgotten faces. :lol

The reviewo-duo is cool and all, but they do let G4 control them alot. I remember back in the day when that really awful hobbit game was out they tried to give it a positive review because got paid to pimp it at that time. You could look at both of their faces and tell they just wanted to tear into it, but couldn't. Especially Tommy, I've seen him rip into way better stuff than that game. Looking at their faces was funny, pitiful, and sad all at the same time. :lol

XPlay is the worst thing on TV bar none.

G4 needs to contact ZiffDavis and get the 1up Show on their network.

Wait...uh...what exactly was that supposed to mean?

G4...I watched that once, because they had a clip of the CDI Zelda games on Cinematech. That was unintentionally hilarious, and by hilarious I mean soul-sucking.

I mean, I know enough from the Intarweb to stay away from G4, but Cinematech isn't blatantly repugnant like everything else apparently is in that its screensaver-esque design makes you drawn to stare at it for a while. You're a damned liar if you tell me you've never just sat at your computer and stare at all those little pipes twist and curve all over the screen.

So Cinematech is on par with flying toasters?

Speaking of After Dark, I should try to find a copy of Lunatic Fringe..
