Abyss Blue Pearl, Gold Trim (possibly), and quartz (grey) interior...

It arrives at the dealer Mid November... does anybody have experience with Acura TL's? It looks awesome and drove great in the test drive, and I love the interior. Right now I have a '97 Accord that has treated me real well.

HOLY CRAP. So, uh, hey baby... ;)

I can't wait to hear your impressions of it, because I've fallen in LOVE with the new TL. I have a 2003 Nissan Altima 3.5SE, and I can't quite justify the upgrade right now...but every time I see one, I'm way tempted.

May I ask where you bought it, how much you paid for it, and whether or not you got the DVD navigation system? (PM if you prefer to do it that way...)

"Inexpensive" and "relatively newer" are relative terms, but if you're looking for something sub 14k I'd forgo either of those and pick up a Mazda 3 instead. Comparable price and better everything for the money.

Damn you for getting your TL before me. With the pending arrival of the new addition to the family I've had to push my purchase back to mid next year.

Mazda 3's are really nice, but a new one is about 20K (base model) CDN.

A dealer acquaintance of mine can get an '03 Corolla for about 14K... and I'm a po' university student.

Holy...you drive a 3.5SE? Respect for Jinx + 10,000.

DJTiesto: Incredible car. A family member has one and it's incredible. The interior is awesome and the ride is nearly flawless.

The Mazda 3 ain't a 14k car. Barebones it may be, but who the hell would want to drive a bare bones car anyways? Put in an option or two and the price shoots up. If you want the car decently equipped, it'll cost you nearly 20k. Not worth it for a little 4-banger.

Heh...thanks.

When I was shopping around for a car a couple of years ago, it was between the Infiniti G35 and the 6-cylinder Altima...and for the price, the Altima couldn't be beaten. I do love it a lot, but a guy can't help but daydream about the TL. <SIGH>

I'd personally take a 3.5 Altima over a TL anyday (especially the redesigned 2005 models). VQ engines rock. My 2001 Maxima is plenty fast for me, but I'm thinking of getting a 2002/3 Maxima as a second car only because it has the faster 3.5 in it (same engine as your Altima).

Congrats!

Does it come with Bluetooth? IIRC, I think that comes standard.

You guys seen the new RL? Shit's hot.

The RL is gorgeous, though I could afford it I'd hate myself whenever I wasn't driving the thing so I'm still pretty much looking at a TL or a 4 door G35.... The TL still leads for me because I personally think the 4door G35 looks BLAND, especially of course, compared to the 2 door version.

And dammit why can't 4 doors get some exhaust note love especially performers like the TL, G35, etc...? The G35 coupe exhaust sounds sweet just cruising at low speed around a parking lot... the 4 door? bleh.

:lol Well I never said the base 14K Mazda3 had a lot of options, but I'd definitely take that over the Corolla or Sentra.

I know all about the Mazda 3 pricing because I'm looking to get a 3s 4 door for my bro pretty soon. Black auto with:
-ABS/SAB/SAC $800
-Moonroof w/ 6 disk CD Changer $890
-Sport Package $490
-Xenon lighting & TPMS $700
-Rear Wing Spoiler $350

Total is around 21,290. Added to that I wanna get a MD player put in which bumps up the price around 400 more with installation. Hopefully I can get it below invoice.

Anyway, back on topic... congrats again on the purchase!

AlphaSnake, even though I love the Max (currently rocking a black Millenium Edition) why another? Especially if you're gonna keep the one you currently have as well?

You mean 20th Anniverssary Edition? The reason(s) I want another one is because:

1) The 2002/3 received an all new engine, 3.5 liter 255hp (at crank). That's 33 more HP than my 2001.

2) New transmission. Nissan has used the same damn trannies on their cars since the 92 3rd gen Maxima.

3) Aggressive fascia. The new bumper with the redesigned grille = sex. And who can forget about the gorgeous HID housing?

4) I love Maximas. They may depreciate in value fast, but they hold up in terms of performance and design more than any other sedan.

G35 Darien. No contest.

I've driven the sedan quite a bit, but it's all about the coupe.

Yeah 20th Anniversary with the aero kit, smoked headlights etc.. but "Milleniun Edition" sounds better :p

I understand your points. I love the bumper/grill changes as well and seriously considered an engine/headlight swap on my ME a while back but logic prevented it. Still... why bother keeping the other one? That's the only thing I don't get.

Oh, I'll hand the 2001 over to my dad.

My 2 door owning days are down for at least a few years more, not willing to deal with the gymnastics involved in getting a carseat/baby out of it. ;)

Damn I can't find my mazda3 pictures on my comp. Anyways I drive a M3 winning blue hatch fully loaded without navigation.

Using "M3" as an acronym for a Mazda 3 probably isn't the best idea ;)

Anyway, Acura's entire line of cars is pretty fricking sweet at the moment: EL (for canadians), RSX, TSX, TL, RL (and of course the aging NSX).

Sweet... TL's are nice cars. I test drove one last week, as well as TSX, but finally decided upon this bad boy. The TL was a little more than I wanted to pay, and it felt "nose heavy" to me. Definately a nice car, but I wanted something a little sportier with tighter handling and balance. I fell in love with the performance of the legacy (0-60 in 5.8 secs!), and the new interior is pretty nice too.

This is a pic I pulled from another forum, but mine is also silver. Only differance is that mine is the limited version and is fully loaded and includes a spoiler and sunroof.

BTW... the new RL does look pretty hot. The front grill and headlights make it look angry and aggressive. :D Its got that nice AWD system, and its about time that Acura started putting AWD in its sedans.

The TL desperately needs AWD. Right now the 270HP going to the front wheels results in some of the worst torque steer ever.
That's probably true. I have 245 hp going to my FWD Altima, and the torque steer is impressive. If you punch it and don't pay attention...look out. :(

They do it 500 times a day on the Mazda 3 forums. The first time I went there I had to double check to make sure I was in the right forum... M3 this and M3 that... :lol

I disagree about the RSX, I loved the older model RSX but the new one has been civic-fied. :/ As a result I hate this one with a passion.

Acura - We Look Like Everything Else on the Road!
That's so grossly inaccurate I neither know where to begin nor will I get into it....

The TL desperately needs AWD. Right now the 270HP going to the front wheels results in some of the worst torque steer ever.
Me thinks they're waiting for the Mazdaspeed 6 to come out first, see how it does and then respond in kind. Right now the MS6's stats are:
-All-wheel drive
-Turbocharged 270-hp 2.3-liter four
-Six-speed manual transmission
-Sport suspension
etc.

Can't wait to see it in action. :D

Just ignore Bog, rayne. Trust me, the guy's as stupid as one can get.

Anyways, as far as the Speed-6 the current specs for it look incredible. But the times they have set for it seem to be very low for a car of that much power. 0-60 in 6 seconds? 1/4 mile in 14.5? I'm holding out, maybe these were very early and underestimates but they just seem so underwhelming. For a car that weighs and is putting out about the same as the U.S. EVO VIII it's trailing a full second behind -- weird. I estimate final times of low 5s 0-60 and high 13s in the 1/4s.

raYne

Member
Yeah man, the estimates have to be conservative, it's always best to underestimate than overestimate. Not that the RX8 issue was that big of a deal, but they certainly don't want a repeat.

The way I see it, the Speed-6 will definitely outperform the RX8 (0-60) and as you said high 5's are a definite posibility. With optimum conditions the 8 runs a 5.9 0-60, and lower than that with an ECU mod, but more often than not low 6's. The MS6's stats definitely put it lower than that.

So far Mazda's MS8 mods have really only been suspension, exhaust, lightweight flywheel etc. But they have real plans for the 8 as well but that'll wait at least until a year after the MS6 launches.

-jinx- - I got the car at Smithtown Acura, in Smithtown, LI, for about $34,800 (after NYS 8.75% sales tax), no nav system. Good to hear positive impressions of the TL, though. Looking very forward to actually getting to drive it :D

Sweet! I was thinking of getting one of those for my next car (probably in a couple of years). The only thing I'm a little concerned about is the mileage. Even my Corolla (City EPA - 30mpg) gets about 22 mpg, and this is conservative driving. I can't imagine how much a performance car's mileage would suffer in the city. Stupid San Francisco hills.

And for the record, as much as people gush over the TL's appearance, I also agree that Acuras have pretty conservative styling overall. They're really not all that much more externally appealing than Toyotas and other Hondas.

Brother lives in Merrick and we took a drive down to Smithtown to look into a new TL. They were pretty cool guys to deal with. Even my brother, who typically considers all dealerships assholes (and rightfully so) said the same. But he changed his mind and went with another Lexus and got himself and his wife an RX330. So now he has an SC430 and an RX330.

And now for some more TL love. Car showed up at a huge Maxima meet I setup for Halloween, along with this EVO VIII.
