Should I play sims2 then university, Im not so sure how the whole sims expansion thing works

I would create a teenage character and play University first. Then when you get out of University your character will be an adult and you can play the sims as you would if you never had the expansion.

One thing I wish I did:
In University there are Secret Societies and I never figured out how to join one. I now wish I would have gone online and figured that out, not because it adds an extra dimension to the University expansion (which it does) but because if you don’t you wont unlock the extra bonus items that you would normally obtain for progressing threw the new career paths. The manual talks about these items.

Sims 2 still remains my faovrite time-sink of all time. I played for freaking 6 hours straight yesterday. I only stopped because I needed to get some food. In that time, I got engaged, then went to a neighbor's house and the wife started hitting on me while I was controlling the father of that house! That game is awesome and I will be upgrading my video card only so I can see the cutscenes that I am missing now.
