There were a bunch of little robins/swallows eating in the street. A car flies by and it sounds like a balloon being popped, I thought it hit a pothole. See a couple birds gather round something. Took a peak. It looked like a bloody, feathery burger patty. I almost vomitted when it's legs started kicking.

I know there's a ton of human suffering in the world. I know nature is just as cruel. But that is such a fukked up way to go.

Things like that are really bad to see. I once saw how a cat got run over by a car. Its intestins were torn from its stomach, really terrible to see. I called the animal-ambulance, but the cat didn't make it.

Oof.

A few months ago at a subway station, I saw a pigeon that was sitting on one of the rails get run over by the train. I don't know why it didn't move. But it literally got split in half.

I've had a dog walk in front of my car while driving home from a friend's house early in the morning. I felt like crap for quite awhile. I remember seeing the dog in front of my car at the last second, hearing a horrible "WHUMP" when it hit my front bumper, and then another interesting noise as is scrapped the bottom of my car when I slammed on the break. I think I said something along the lines of "OHSHITFUCK" all while wanting to crawl up into a fetal position. I was a little less upset upon seeing what it did to my car, but it certainly wasn't a pleasant experience. I just hope to god the poor thing died upon impact. I saw a motionless lump in the rear-view mirror but just didn't have it in me to get out of the car to be sure.

I saw my beautiful dog Julie get run over right in front of my eyes. I was 4 at the time, and I remember it so vividly. It happened right in front of my house, no less. The guy sped away. I have nightmares about it till this day. The blood...and her tail still wagging...thinking about it makes me sick. I cried for 4 days straight. I didn't sleep at all.

It has scarred me a good deal; if I see a dog with his/her owner anywhere near a street, I slow way down or change lanes to be as far away as possible from it. =(

I took out the end of an 8-duckling long chain of ducks crossing a street once. I was going 45 and it was night...there was really nothing I could do short of turn into a telephone pole since there was someone coming towards me in the other lane. Still irks me to this day.

I used to take this road to school which had a small river on one side and some gardens on the other. Each year, for about a week, hundreds of frogs/toads would emerge from the gardens and cross the, reasonably busy, road to lay eggs in the river. At the end of the week the asphalt was literally covered in frog corpses. Always ran over some by accident myself as well, nasty frog guts all over my bicycle wheels...

When I was a boy, I experienced some really gross stuff.

Around 5 or 6, we had some chicks as pets to play with. And being curious, I stepped on one to see what owuld happen. I still remember feeling the warm guts and flash on my sole.

I accidentally killed my pet goldfishes by placing them in a tank with predatory fishes. A few minutes later, it was dead with its gut ripped open.

I've sene a rat turned to mince meat when it was crushed under a door, our main door out of the house.

It's odd. Watching something just getting killed is gross to me. But watching snakes or pirhannas go at it is fascinating. When I get some money saved up I'm planning to set up a pirhanna habitat.

I ran over a cat once by accident. Went back home to get a shovel and it dissapeared (and it was only about 5 minutes later). The next day I saw signs for a lost cat.

This thread brings tears to my eyes. :(

I stepped on a small mouse that was running through the grass when I was younger. Can't remember if it was intentional or an accident, but I remember the sound of tge spine cracking under my foot. :(

My GF saw a cat getting hit by a school bus. She said she saw the heart lying on the street about 20 feet away from the body, still pounding. :(

I ran over an Armadillo this week. I stopped the car and it was kind of jumping really high, or bouncing around very violently in it's death throes. On off of the road it bounced down into the grass.

I wanted to do something but in Florida it's a bad idea to wade down into the tall grass.

I feel like a Goddamned wretch

Whenever I see birds when I'm driving I try to hit them, (mainly to freak out my friend if she's with me, or if they're crows) but one time I was driving in downtown Santa Barbara and I saw an opossum crossing the street. It was late at night, I was the only one there, I tried to swerve and slow down, but I clipped it. I felt so horrible, because opossums are so cute and their fur is so soft, I pulled over and jumped out to see if it was ok, but it was just laying there motionless in the road. Poor opossum. ;__;

And fuck cats. I try to hit them too - even when I'm just walking. Hahahaha, anyone else ever kicked a pidgeon? :lol

WordAssassin: Thanks for your reply, I really don't hope that a car driver will take you for a cat and run you over "just for the kick". I also hope that you don't mistake a children for a cat and run over it, that would be just sad.

Recently, I saw a marmot dead in the middle of the street. I was really big and somehow, all the cars were dodging it even though it was kind of dangerous. I passed several times in that same street that day so I decided at one point to move it in the field on the border of the street with a shovel.

I was shocked by the lifeless body (good for me, it was still in one piece with nothing spilled over) and I had lost a cat to some stupid accident not long ago so I got taken over by the emotions. Each time that I see a marmot, a racoon, a moufette or a cat, I feel bad because we run over them with cars and I get the impression that we don't care. We just pollute and kill stuff with our cars and we wonder why natural incidents happen all over the world.

That sucks. :(

Working grounds I've seen dozens of animals die or the aftermath of such things.

There were a few that stood out.

We were driving along in our vehicle when a sparrow came flying kamikaze style towards us. Diving towards the ground we see it disappear and we look behind us and see nothing. We drive forward a bit more and get out. We walk back to find the sparrow with blood oozing out of several areas. Even the birds at my work hate it there...

A few days later I was riding in the back of a trailer with two other guys, and we see an assortment of birds. There was a baby bird sitting there peacefully when all of a sudden a seagull saunters over, picks the baby up, and with squirming legs frantically moving about it gulped it down.

Isn't nature lovely? :P

When we were driving around one night a jackrabbit bolted under my friend's REAR tire, there was NOTHING we could do. All its innards shot out of its asshole. It was really sad. I wasn't about to go back and pick that bloody fucker up.

I almost hit a deer last time I drove to Winnipeg. Fucker ran out into the middle of the road and stood there for a few seconds, I slammed on my brakes and swerved into the other lane, and he ran off thank Christ. I would feel real terrible hitting a deer, and that shit would fuck my car up badly.
