Kameo Update (360) New Screens

I want a Dark Crystal game... Brian Froud designs, etc.

Maybe with the Dark Crystal sequel finally coming out after 20+ years, we might get some kind of RPG or action-RPG out of it?

Oh. :lol Cause I was thinking how can a game that throws an ungodly number of characters on screen at once like Kameo possibly be "poly starved."
 
it looks ok i guess, the backgrounds look nice, but are all nextgen games going to have that plastic, fake, looks like a shiny turd floating in the toilet wrapped in foil texture map look to them? I fucking hate that, and so far a lot of games look like it.
 
Maybe desperado is blind but it doesn't look to me like the shots he used has examples even have grass beyond the bit of volumetric stuff. Kameo and her horse are standing on a rock it looks like , and the other part is a cobble stone pathway, which last time I checked, neither should look like grass. That first town shot is really nice actually, If I was still buying this system at luanch I'd grab Kameo on top of DOA4 I think.
 
If you use the ignore feature properly, you can turn some threads into a constructive discussion. And not a lame troll festival. Problem is, you have to check post histories to make sure you're not ignoring folks with constructive dissenting opinion.

I don't know why MS bothers with releasing Kameo in Japan, spending some extra money on the top voice actors in the process, since the game is about to sell two copies there. Seems they still haven't learned their lesson from the first Xbox japanese fiasco yet.

Oh stop, Rare isn't that bad now. They what, put out a bad game on Xbox, an okay remake, and an average game on GC this gen and they suck? Their GBA stuff was pretty good overall.

And the art in this is great I think. That castle shot is beautiful.

The graphics could definitely be better I think, but I guess cartoony graphics have somewhat of a limit.. Or something.
 
wasn't the X360 supposed to do some "free" anti-aliasing or something? I still see alot of jaggies in those 720p shots...

Reading this thread you'd have to think every second poster is either an art student or a designer. I have a strong suspicion that most of those posters can't even draw their own name.
 
It's not that bad of art at all. I can understand if it isn't your style but it has a lot of the quirks of good cartoonish art. Some of the stuff is just very mismashed with other something that doesn't look like it fits in the world. But I like it a lot. One of the more impressive and inspired games on 360. The contrast from dark blacks to bright rays of light looks really good. The game's got a lot of style.

That's not really quite the same though - because there's nothing wrong with criticising something. Not liking the art style and saying so is alright. Screaming "terrible art" less so.
 
I love it when people come to threads with the "Bad Art" routine. It just reminds me of the time when some of worlds top Art critics who roundly praised surreal pieces of work only to find out later they were produced by Monkeys and Elephants from the local zoo. Art is such a subjective argument I don't know why people bother and if they do why donÂ’t they explain the reasons why its bad art rather than taking the easy route of just saying its bad art. To me what they are really saying is that its Rare, sold out to MS = bad art.
 
all looks nice and a few Rare games may tempt me to getting a XBox 360.

I think the picture is compressed so we have to wait and see on the TV-screen.

I'd never say Kameo has terrible art...

...because I've seen Perfect Dark Zero.

That looks like a really lame joke, but it's actually true. Anyway, I'm not sure why the 720p shots look so much worst than the other ones, but it's generally looking good.

Because it so much easier to complain then to create. If we took the whole GAF gang and gave us 4 years to make a game, I think the end result would be hilarious.
 
The bad art police wouldnt be so bad if they were consistent. Bad art at GAF only means exclusive to xbox.

wao! But, hey i am an art student and this is indeed bad art. The character designs look like high school sketches and really the town scenes have a color scheme that would cause most people to vomit on site.

This is really just another case of xbots accepting shit cause well, they have bad taste anyway. I mean, they have to have SOMETHING to look forward to right? Even after some of them have "turned in their jackets" twice already.

I'm sorry that you guys think that you cant say something is bad because it hurts your wittle feewings, but if you open up your eyes just a wittle bit you will see that this is indeed dogshit and this game will suck like the last 5 or whatever rare games.

What can i say. I like it. It's bright, colourful and looks like an interesting world to play in.

It also reminds me of some of the things i've seen back in the 80's whilst under the influence of... ahem....things...

So it's sort of a nostagia trip for me :)

YOu can be an art sutdent and still have bad taste. I got banned for saying Tales of Legendia looked like a generic LAst exile rip off. i hope you wont mind next time when i mention how terrible some character designs look in some of those JRPGS.



But yea Kameo Art looks terrible. I just dont see how your opinion matters more than anyone elses tho.

I think the only time I nearly got banned from GAF was when I said that Tales of Legendia looked as generic as your average american scifi/fantasy game.
 
I don't agree at all on the colour palette, i think the colours are the games real strength, its so bright in places and so dark in others, really great contrast.

The purple rooftops are a bit garish, but other than that its fantastic.

Theres a difference between work that was done under the influence of drugs and work that wishes it was done under the influence of drugs. The artwork looks like they studied those saturday morning live action mr snufflebuggywoopwop shows (while sober) which of course is alot like tracing with construction paper. Most everything fails flat on its face in terms of the visual look in this game. Its classic rare PUT BIG EYEBALLS ON IT mixed with the drawings of the guy that draws their D&D characters for them.


Im not partial to any cultures design philosophy, but if you pretend to know what you are talking about then perhaps you should explain a little? I mean shit, tales wins by default cause atleast it is something and not just "trying to be something else" like this piece of shit.

My opinion matters cause DURRR i fucking studied art! I mean seriously, Would you go up to a doctor and say man, you dont know shit. Seriously. Would you? I didnt just go to class and zone out you know? For the past 5 years ive been surrounded by art art history and other artist, I deal with this bullshit alllllllllll the fucking time. Dont fucking sit there and tell me you know anything because you look at it with your untrained eyeballs and say WELL I JUST LIKE IT MKAY. And that what ive studied is totally irrellevant to this conversation because, DUDHDURR! It's totally fucking relevant!

University of tn knoxville. Our program is modest, but we focus alot on theory and little on skill. Which i think is a much nicer way of going about looking at art. Its easy to spot someone with not a lot of hand skill, but its alot harder to see intent and blah blah blah.

Not when its about something so Objective. Dealing with Art all the time does not make your opinion fact. Its the same with being a film critic. lots of crappy films get rave reviews and lots of great films get crap reviews. The fuckers who review the the films are surrounded by films ...it does not mean their opinion is better than mine. Hell Ebert gave The Cell 4 stars!

Films and art are PURELY objective people have different tastes. If i like a drawing and you dont ...I wont suddenly stop liking the drawing because you use some l33t art terms to explain to me how it looks bad to you. stop being so arrogant.

My post was making a simple statement on my opinion of the overal look of the game. In no way did it reference your post or denegrate your opinion.
