I for one think this has to stop. This is like the fifth time some movie has been turned into play, and again you have a bunch of lilly white actor-ish actors and actresses involved for a production that's "sure to be a hit with anyone who remembers the eighties!"

I mean, Jesus Fuck, this is who's playing Mr. Miyagi?!

WTF? Oh I get it... I get it's supposed to be post modern or some bullshit.

At least this girl (don't who the hell she's supposed to be playing) is cute....

And this guy looks like Billy Zane....

Although I have to admit I wouldn't mind seeing April scantily dressed.

As long as Billy Zabka (best actor ever) reprises his role as "Johnny", it's all good. ;) Oh yeah, Chad McQueen, too. :D

And as long as they keep that "you're the best around" song in, and don't change it into an instrumental. : /

Karate Kid > *

You know, I never knew it until recently, but the first two Karate Kid flicks were WILDLY popular in theaters back when they released. I always thought they were just campy 80's movies that everyone liked in retrospect, but weren't successful draws at the box office. The first film made (iirc) something like $180M at the box in 1984 (which would easily be over $300M today), and part two did something like $175M in 1987. I had no idea they were that successful-- did anybody else?

I was just thinking that. Great 80's movie song. Up there with the song in Teen Wolf where he turns into the wolf during the game.

Yeah, they were monster hits when I was a kid.

If there's not a big musical number built around "Sweep the Leg!" I'll be dissapointed.

They might get the reference if you'd made the reference correctly.

"Man I'm hot when I've got the cards to play-- nothing stands in my way..." :D

I remember that song-- pretty catchy. It's no "you're the best around", but it's good. :)

Btw, the best 80's soundtrack (if we're excluding Rocky 4, which has the best soundtrack ever, but I think was released in the early 90's) is from this BMX movie called "RAD"; one of the songs on the soundtrack was a popular hit called "Send Me An Angel" (I forget the artist), but some of the non-radio songs on there were incredible, including "Break The Ice", "Thunder in your Heart", and "Get Strange". Campy and quintessentially 80's? Yes. Awesome to exercise to and get you pumped? Yes. :D Seriously, if anyone can find them on any <ahem> shile-faring services, you won't be disappointed if you're into songs like that.

SonicMegaDrive, I don't think that "You're The Best" was by Survivor; I recall seeing the artist's name, and it wasn't Survivor. Unless it was Survivor's lead singer doing it on his own. I dunno...

Dude, at least do it right:

Sensei Kreese, wiping the blood from Johnny's nose after a Daniel LaRusso strike: "Sweep the leg"

(Johnny, face filled with terror at how purely evil he now realizes his Sensei is)

Sensei Kreese, scowling: "Do you have a problem with that?"

Johnny: "No Sensei" <backs away in horror>

Man, I love that movie. :D

RAD is an awesome flick, I used to have a neon blue BMX Super Tracker as a kid so it brought back a lot of memories :D

I love the John Farnham tracks in the film too, gotta love that huge 80s production.

Phbt! I've been posting on and off here for like 4 years...just not enough to warrant any kind of popularity. And when my little rating's about to change? New forum! Bastards!

And...well....at least mine is musical! Yeah! That's it!

Three posts! I'm getting me a cookie!

You are a man of impeccable taste. :D

Yeah, Farnham, that was the artist's name on "Break the Ice" and "Thunder in your Heart"; Hubert Kam performed "Get Strange". Man, what a soundtrack that was-- so much better than any other cheesy 80's flick. Pretty cool movie with awesome stunts, too.

Does it really say that on the poster or something? I didn't even bother to look (I have images turned off on my options). I doubt it, but I wouldn't put anything past the zany playwrights of our day. :D

IT'S KARATE, KID! The Musical is an outrageous and unconventional riff on the beloved ’80s film. Under the manicured guiding hand of a mystical
maintenance man, Daniel-San Larusso wages war against pill-popping, white trash deviants; well-styled, bloodthirsty karate students; rampaging hormones and many more “unsavory things.”

Featuring 20 ferocious new songs, including “Wax On! Wax Off!,” “‘A’ My Name is Ali” and “We are the Bitchkicks,” this KID chops through an orgy of drug-fueled excess and sexual perversion to win the gold!"

That guy was great. Hearing him totally spaz out while Johnny was fighting Daniel made me cry with laughter. It was like he was on speed. :D

Why in the world does everything have to be put to song and dance nowadays?

Is it because we can't understand things under normal circumstances and they need to be sung to us?

That said...Do the Necronomicon!
