Unlike any of the splinter cell games, Twisted Metal Black is actually fun to play.

What is Greg Kasavin really saying with his latest Xbox flops?

He is inferring that he doesn't like the premise of Jade empire. He is saying he doesnt like the concept of a RPG set in Chinese Mythology.

He is saying he doesnt like 'high tech espionage' at all. This is the 3rd Splinter Cell game he has assigned himself to review. He was one of the VERY FEW AND FIRST to knock the original.

Kasavin can review any game he wants, he calls the shots as site editor. Why would he assign himself the 'grueling task' of reviewing 'yet another' Splinter Cell?' Why devote 20+ hours to a RPG if he doesnt like the concept to begin with?

Take a look at those screengrabs again, they are very telling.

So why, as the editor of Gamespot would he put himself as the reviewer of these titles? He has an obvious distaste for them at their core.

If we are to buy the premise that Greg Kasivin is the 'tough reviewer' and Jeff Gerstman is his good cop counterpart, then why is it that Greg pretty much exclusively reviews highly anticipated Xbox titles? Gerstman never reviews Xbox titles, that is until recently, he reviewed UC2 and Psychonauts, giving these future bargain binners nice if even a bit inflated scores in UC2's case. These both came after the 1 2 punch of SC3 and Jade Empire.

Right now SC3 and Jade empire are at 93.6% and 91% at Game Rankings. Are his scores from the herat, or are they hype killers AND Attention Grabbers for site traffic?
Gamespot is not only out to gain hits for outrageous flops, but they are also looking to kil any sort of Xbox hype they can. Anyone remember all those negative Halo 2 'ilovebees' editorials they posted? They snubbed Halo 2 for 'Best Game AND Best XBox Game at E3' They also snubbed it for Xbox game of the year, giving that title to a multiplatform game.

Gamespot is clearly out to not only kill Xbox hype, they are also out to kill Xbox 1st party franchises. If Kasavin reviews forze, which im sure he will, it will flop. Forza will flop, mark my words. Jade Empire is another example of this, what an embarassing score for a game whose X360 sequel has already been announced.

While a bit too dramatic I agree with you here. They've been deflating Xbox hype for years. And it's already started with Xbox 360 (ie posting Maddon 2006 for PS3 on the front page of the site... a game that will never exist on PS3 and they know it). Or what about in their rumor mill when they actually said the xbox would look like this:

it doesn't matter....casual gamers would rather read their videogame reviews on FHM and they tend to be worse than IGN in terms of overrating, but that's really what the mass-market gamer is looking for.

I thought Kasavin summed up this kind of conspiratorial fanboy nonsense in a journal entry a few months back titled I Used To Hate Mick Lasalle. The best quote came not from Greg, but the titular critic.

Much of the public, it seems, has replaced religious faith or spiritual practice with idolatry, either of a sick popular culture or sick politicians. The result is a lot of people who are both rabid and miserable, attached to things that give them no inner sustenance and yet deeply protective of those things. At least that's my theory. You might expect that such a mind-set might at least produce interesting mail, but the sameness and sadness of it all are only disheartening.

God these threads are so tiresome. How do you think coming onto these message boards and calling Kasavin Satan makes YOU look? It's an 8.6, which is by no means a bad review score. Get over it and get a life.

I couldn't help but take a look at the other review, but I ended up just searching for Splinter Cell and discovering that, holy cow, if you think the Xbox review is a bad score, what can you say about the PS2 and Gamecube versions? (7.1 and 6.7, both by Kasavin)

But what can you say? He also gave the widely-hyped MGS3 an 8.7 (what an awful score!). Desperately overrating MGS2 aside, I'm not sure what "agenda" he's got, other than taking a slightly tougher stance than many other reviewers.

I'm sure I'll think he scored Jade Empire a little low if I enjoy it around as much as I enjoyed KOTOR, but I'm worried a bit too much sleep is being lost over this.

I think a much more valid complaint is to cut that review down! ;) I think that's going to be my new job. Advocating shorter reviews on the big sites. I know they're there for a reason, but it won't stop my whining any longer!
 
A Great score for Jade Empire and a Great score for a MULTIPLATFORM game prove how much he hates Xbox! :lol

hey man.. screw you.. NWN is a great game.. not only is it a great game but possibly the greatest modding toolset and game laguage ever written. the fact that tens of thousands of people are still playing NWN today is a testament to its brilliance.

but yeah, B&W had everyone fooled, and mechassault.... well, to each their own I guess..

but NWN was 9 worthy.. I mean there are tried and true MMORPGs out there using the NWN engine.
