Katamari game save problem

I finally broke down and got Katamari Damacy today. This game is demented through and through.. I love it. But I'm having a major problem, because whenever I try to save my game, it makes the data, then it forgets about it. When I try to load it, it's gone. The save data just disappears. I tried switching to a different memory card, too, and it didn't make any difference.

What's going on here?

Drew tells me this is the first time he's had any problem with the memory cards. They work with every other game, so did I just get a defective copy of Katamari?

When you load a game, you have to move the Katamari over and roll up the N and A of the Namco logo at the start. I think that's your problem....unless it isn't.

the save file doesnt even appear in the ps2 memory card menu?

It does show up in the memory card menu, but the game won't recognize it when it boots and can't load it.

The game worked fine on the store's system. :|

Edit: The clerk asked me to bring in the memory cards so he could check them out on his system. He said if it turns out that they work OK, then it's probably my system at fault. Then he said he would either let me return the game, or let me trade in the PS2 for $75 credit towards getting a new slim one.. which, I must admit, is sounding tempting.

That's really, really weird. I really don't have any suggestions, but I'm bumping in the hopes that someone will.

I wonder if you have a failing memory card and the game save is being written to malfunctioning flash memory.

Have you tried a different memory card?

Or placed your memory card in the other slot? Maybe you have a failing memory card slot?

I tried both of my memory cards, and the game doesn't look for cards in the second slot. It saved to the memory card at the EB store just fine.

Hmmmmmm, from the sounds of it, I am thinking your memory card slot may somehow be messed up.

That's just a guess though.

Damn, there is no way to force the PS2 to look in the second slot? WTF is up with that?

So, when you say it worked at the EB store, you were using your memory card there right? Although if you weren't, I find the likely hood that both memory cards could be dying at the same time.

Not in-game, no. It'll read when outside of the game in the System Browser of course. And I'll reiterate, I haven't had problems with saving in any other game.

That is just too freakin weird.

Sorry I couldn't help man. If I could - I would.

I wasn't using my memory card there, I was using theirs. That's why he asked me to bring it back with one of the memory cards.

That is worth a shot dude. I wonder if your PS2 is somehow funkifying your memory card somehow.

Maybe he meant THE Katamari PSP?

It was the memory card. Apparently Katamari is incompatible with MadCatz cards. So I have to plop down $25 for a memory card to play a $20 game, because after finding that out the jackass clerk wouldn't let me return or exchange it. :/

Why on earth do people buy 3rd party memory cards? Do you really want to lose your data that badly?

It's my brother's PS2. Unlike me, he doesn't have any problem with dungy pre-played games and shitty 3rd part accessories..

that's interesting. i have a madcatz card but never tried it with katamari

and i have a madcatz memory card because of the fucking memory card shortage during the PS2 launch. it was VERY hard to find a memory card at the beginning of the PS2 cycle. and the madcatz isn't really a true 3rd party card...it actually works very well
