With all the River City Ransom nuts on this forum, how come no one is talking about this game? After playing River City Ransom on GBA, if it's any good, I might conside rebuying a PS2 just to play it if it gets a U.S. release. The concept sounds hilarious. You have to make eye contact before you can kick some ass, just like in Kill Bill. :D

Because the unskippable opening tutorial requires rapid-fire kanji recognition and sequencing that brings non-natives to their knees.

This is the most depressing thing I've read all day. :(

Yep. The only real way to get past it IS sight recognition. Forget about actually understanding what is being said.

Right. This game is VERY non-importer friendly. I got a little ways in, and it's just not going to happen without knowing at least passable Japanese.

I really can't imagine this coming stateside without some major major changes, which really bums me out.

"Passable?" Nah. I'd say you have to be fluent and very familar with Kanji to actually be able to play the game instead of just hoping you pick the right answer during that opening tutorial. :) Such a cool idea, too...too bad this has no chance of coming Stateside.
