WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, citing the war in Iraq and other trouble spots in the world, raised the possibility Wednesday that a military draft could be reinstated if voters re-elect President Bush

hmmm

Cheney threatens terrorist attack

Kerry threatens draft

tell me again why i should vote for either side?

Because I like cheese. That's why. Yes, this is the best reason I can come up with.

Seriously though, the scare tactics from both parties are pretty low. I wonder if this is simply a result of the state of the world, or if politics are just getting this way overall. I mean the U.S. isn't the only place were an unusual amount of mud has been slung in elections. Eg, the pornography comments by Steven Harper during the Canadian elections not too long ago.

You only need to read recent intelligence reports concerning Iraq to know that the draft is a possibility if things don't improve drastically in the next several months.

Then again, we have guys like Robert Novak who are reporting that Bush will infact remove troops in January once he is re-elected.

So who even knows at this point.

Yeah, there's a reliable source. :roll eyes:

you guys fearing the draft are complete tards.

it wont happen, do you think they want moron pussys out fighting our battles right now? no, it would do our regular troops more harm than good.

we are more likely to pull out our soldiers than re-instate a draft.

Both Cheney and Kerry are being taken a little out of context. Cheney's remarks were about being in a "pre-9/11 mindset" and such a thing would leave us vulnerable, while Kerry is talking about the ramifications of the situation in Iraq worsening due to stubborn mishandling and rose-tinted reporting.

Well, I guess Kerry is taking a page out of the Republican handbook and just start throwing random shit out there and see what sticks.

Would you rather have me get drafted, have a complex-partial seizure, and shoot up my entire platoon? I broke my wrist/arm twice over the course of the last year and a half.

DON'T DRAFT ME! I'LL HIT THE RED BUTTON!

Noting that the campaign Tuesday night neared Disney's "fantasy land" in Orlando, Fla., Kerry said: "The difference between George Bush and me is that I drove by it. He lives in it."

Mrrrrow!!!!!

OMG! I just figured it out! I know what the terrorists plan to do! This is ingenious! Ok, here it comes.... wait for it.... wait for it....

THE TERRORISTS ARE GOING TO REINSTATE THE DRAFT, THUS PLUNGING THE COUNTRY INTO CHAOS!

No, no, wait! It's totally true! Even as we speak, Al Qaeda terrorists are taking classes at senator school, and are going to hijack the US Senate! Then they'll reinstate the draft, using boxcutters, and civil war will result! The country will be split in two, neighbor will fight neighbor, brother will kill brother (Jeb versus Dubya! Fight!). It will be tragic. John Titor really was from the future.

this thread rocks :lol glad I started it :lol

If they did, I didn't get the memo.
Aparently there was a 'Smart Border Declaration' signed between Canada and the USA in 2001, some people think that America could put pressure on Canada to ammend it to also stop draft-dodgers.

I think I heard that, but Canada already receives a couple of American deserters as of now, applying for refugee status.

There will be a draft...not for Iraq...but for Iran and/or N. Korea if Bush is re-elected. Since Bush weakened our resources(money and troops) in defending this nation with a pointless war in Iraq...now is the time for Iran and N. Korea to make a move if they want to(which it seems both of them are doing). So yes, a war still might happen with them if Kerry is President and our resources are thin...but I believe Kerry will do a better job at getting a real coalition to deal with those threats...he can't do any worse than Bush. So by doing so, Kerry could avert a draft if a war is NEEDED to deal with Iran/N. Korea. And yeah, well no one in the world community wants to help Bush out(UK is starting to pull troops from Iraq) and yeah any future war with Bush is President is bad news for American youth. The explosive device fodder has to come from somewhere...and barring a journey over to enslave Africans(although I wouldn't put it out of Bush's reach)...the fodder will be us(although not me...they can kill me before I serve under Bush).

The terrorists want Kerry to win Cheney says? Is he good friends with them and that's why he's privy to this information? That must be it.

Here's hoping all you Bush fans enlist for his wars.

Meh, I repeat what I hear on TV :)
Right now there is nothing stopping 'deserters', since there is no law. It's just some people 'think' the declaration could be ammended(if that's the correct term) in the future.

It could be. Currently, the Canadian PM is a bit on the pro-American side, but he is part of a minority goverment. Before the election, Canada was about to join the US missile defense, now it is no longer certain.

It'll be interesting to see if this minority government can hold up. Historically speaking, it hasn't worked well. But on the subject of Canada, things could be worse ... we could have Steven Harper in charge.

Stephen Harper is so pro-American, it is scary.

Hopefully, their two crushing defeats at the polls will make them move closer to the center.

Nothing but ramblings from a campaign in an utter nose dive.

Besides, a draft wouldn't be within the realm of possibilities if Clinton hadn't cut the military by 25%.

I hate to agree, but Kerry seems to have lost some major steam over the last couple of weeks. It's like nothing he says is getting through. I just hope everyone goes out to vote..more people voting will help Kerry more than Bush, I think.

If that doesn't happen, though...enjoy your next 4 years with Bush =/

The draft wouldn't be a possibility if the US wasn't wasting its military in Iraq. That's the real bottom line.

I couldn't agree more. I would say 90% of the people who support Bush show up at the polls (they're dedicated, I'll give them that). Kerry needs the turnout to be exceptionally high to win.. he needs the youngins.

I live in rural Central Pennsylvania, and all the "youngins" as pestul says, are pro-Bush. Why, you ask?

SHOOT KERRY KERRYS GON TAKE ER GUNS!

Right, because the average soldier really represents the best of America.

At least Kerry isn't operating under the perspective that this is a "war" fundamentally based on Christianity vs. Islam.

The Iraq War, questionable. If I got drafted for that Id go willingly, but I wouldnt be happy about it I dont think. Id keep my head down, do my duty, and hopefully make it out alive.

However, if it were for Iran or N.Korea. If America was ever threatened by an enemy or attacked, with proof positive. There would be no need to draft me, Id be signing up the first day. Nobody fucks with America, not while I live here.

A draft wouldn't be within the realm of possibility if Bush hadn't stretched our forces so incredibly thin in Iraq. Blaming Clinton four years out of office is reaching that makes the gaming forum look like a place filled with rational, well-reasoned debate.
