Not playing myself but been watching cowboy play it. Seems really cool but fucking hard though. Hopefully they nerf it a bit.

I am interested in test out this game, as I am a big fan of the Dungeon Fighter Online. But it appears that the closed beta is only for console?

Oh boy... I've had this seed of doubt planted in my mind after my short hands-on time a while back, but now having spent a good 3 hours with the game... the exhaustion mechanic straight up ruins combat and I don't think the game will be very well received among souls fans for that reason alone. I will of course send feedback, but it's so integral to the system they'd have to rebalance the whole game when ideally just ditching it altogether. Shame.

I’ve have really enjoyed my time with the beta (thanks again Dzab Dzab ).

to me the game is very souls lite, the combat mechanics are way more forgiving (parry timing, dodging, etc) and it has the look/feel/style of the Darksiders series (1 and 2 at least).

Ok, but how does it work ?
I do have a twitch account - will opening twitch on my PS5 and watch an hour of the stream (which stream btw) suffice?

Thanks Bart 😉
I just left a tab open in my web browser and went to do something else. Any stream I guess, they just say it in the title. But getting a drop still takes time for them to "process it", I'm still waiting since yesterday. Got a key from someone else in the meantime I should have a spare for EU soon

I still have a PS5 code. I don't plan on sitting in front of the cpu with my email open ready to copy and paste it.
Whoever wants it better learn to respond.

Did you beat that lizard boss? Without summoning a phantom?

I'm gonna be that guy :

This is yet another "we have a souls like at home"...

The game's biggest sin is that it doesn't have a single original bone in it, it's the same EXACT shit that you've played a hundred times before and it's not necessarily due to souls fatigue, shit, Black myth Wukong is also a souls-like but its setting, amazing art-direction and fast and aggressive staff-based combat is enough to differentiate it from the myriad copy-pasted souls likes out there, but this ? This is yet another stiff, boring and "been there, done that" souls-like.
Yes, it does feel like more like Nioh than DS but...
Graphics are merely OK with a shitty edgy AnimU coat, combat/ gameplay is more of the same® and...I just don't know why these dudes even bothered.
No, it doesn't play horribly or anything but everything is oh-so-unimaginative and boring that you'd have to pay me 70€ to play it, in fact, it feels like a game made for subscription services if that makes any sense.

Fuck this unimaginative, trite, copy-pasted formula, for every Stellar blade, BM Wukong and the soon to be released Phantom blade 0 there's shitty ones like Khazan

Hard disagree on the art style. I think the game looks great and has a distinct HD cel-shading style that’s leagues above something like Code Vein. This might not come through on current consoles, but it likely will on the PS5 Pro, I played it back at gamescom on a high-end PC in 4K, and it's a beauty.

However...

I'm at what I believe is the final boss of the demo, and after my time with it, I feel like someone needs to start a petition to save this game.

It features what might be the most batshit crazy bad idea for a mechanic I've ever seen in a Soulslike, which completely ruins an otherwise solid combat system.

Basically, everything you do costs stamina, even perfect parrying. And every time you get hit, you lose stamina along with health. But here’s the kicker: when you're low on stamina (which is almost always), getting hit puts you into a stun state that can last way over a second — or until you're hit again, as enemies obviously keep attacking. Heavy enemies can "immobilize" you with a single hit, even at full stamina, and then just kill you with a follow-up. This is especially true for bosses. While I recognize it's partly a skill issue on my end, you really have to perfect parry everything, nothing wrong with that, but if you miss an L1 and it happens, it creates this awful friction that feels like you're playing with a broken controller. Nine out of ten times I got killed, it was because of that. It’s just frustrating, and I can't imagine how anyone thought this could be a good idea in a fast-paced, parry-focused Sekiro-like if you will.

And that's a goddamn shame because otherwise, I really love a lot about this game. But now, I'm on the fence. I think it might be too late for them to fix this.

But that's not all. The game also goes all in on loot trash, similar to Nioh — which is in part why I didn't play Nioh. Meaning - enemies drop identical weapons and armor pieces with different stats and "colors." Guess what? Grey, blue, purple, and gold... just kill me.

So, I'll send my feedback and wait for reviews. Hope for a post-beta summary on what they are and are not planning to change.

For the first couple of hours, I enjoyed it and really dug the art-style and atmosphere - but you're definitely right, game doesn't do anything standout.

What I enjoyed is how blocking & parrying were crucial to dealing consistent damage, kind of reminded me of Sekiro in that regard, so the combat design innately makes it a bit challenging compared to it's predeccesors - but there's nothing else here outside of it's artstyle.

Level design is garbage.
Large enemies share moves with bosses.
Level Up Tree & Skill Tree is painfully generic and basic.
Shitty loot system.
Only one of the weapons is fun to use.

Damn, this game looks so cool and I have high hopes, but reading some of this early feedback.. well, maybe it's time to kill the hype for now. Sadly.

I am not a fan of the parry and dodge system in this game but they can easily fix stuff. I think I will get it in a sale after it's been out for a couple months so it's also fixed etc.

Thank you for the actual detailed critique. Hopefully I can read more posts like yours in the future about this game.

No offense to either of you, but Giallo Corsa Giallo Corsa you went on a long rant without being descriptive and begotten begotten you listed everything as bad without explaining anything in further detail. I'm not sure how either post would sway someone on the fence unless they were already leaning towards not buying it.

Didn't think there was much to explain TBH.

The level design sucks. You walk around mostly empty and barely populated levels with like 1 shortcut to your bonfire, there then might be one or two large enemies, and then a boss who just inherits said large enemies moves and then their own moveset.

Level Up tree is dull and there are no unique attributes or stats to this game.

The Loot System seems like it's trying to dictate the game, with perks having a heavy influence on your Stamina, and pieces / sets that tie into specific weapons and skill trees, which is shit because only 1/3 (spear) of the weapons are fun (IMO). So with that said, you have the option mindlessly farm loot but that's what made Nioh boring and annoying.

After playing again today, I did have more fun with it. I found the best way to beat bosses is to not even block and parry, just perfect dodge and use amplified moves that are rewarded from them, then just drill bosses in the back. These dodges if done on the first attack of some of their strings, ends their entire combo too and they don't keep going like if you opted to start with a parry. It made the last two bosses a lot easier when I just mixed in mostly perfect dodges with parrying.

I was probably a bit harsh on it, game has it's moments, but it feels like whoevever is developing this game is just trying to make and implement yet another Soulsborne game, not actually add their own flavour. I can name stuff about Lies of P, Black Myth and even Lords of The Fallen that did a bunch of different shit, I seriously can't think of one thing unique to this game outside of it's art-style (which is cool).

To add to it's focus on your Stamina and rewarding you with damage if you can play defensively, it feels like the uniqueness in combat might be with the Weapon parries & abilities (I didn't bother reading everything) and the main counter (Which was kind of janky), there must be more there, but in the Beta I don't think you can even use a Shop / Blacksmith to improve or maybe even imbue stuff (IDEK), so the mid-late game might actually improve and get more fun.

Again, my opinion of it is only in the opening hours of a Beta that has no release date. Who knows what the game offers beyond the stopping point or how it changes come launch.

Despite lacking originality, it's still a bit of mindless fun. I'm interested in seeing the price also, because I don't think it's worth 60/70.
