Kid Icarus Uprising |OT| On a Wing and a Prayer

I'm going with 50k-100k in Japan to start off with. I think it will have legs, but lack of franchise recognition should hurt. The real keys will be 1) will the multiplayer catch on and 2) will the card collection catch on.

yes

No Star Fox game since Star Fox 64 has broken a million copies. Even Zelda Spirit Tracks only sold something like 2 million copies globally.

All Star Fox games after 64 were shit with shitty multiplayer and Spirit Tracks was shit.

Now that this thread's been up for a week with no OP, the title 'Sorry to keep you waiting' is too appropriate.

I can vouch for this...

To get on the sale bandwagon, the only thing holding the title back is that its not a Mario title so you can't just throw up 1 mil and be really confident on that number.

I really think in NA though, its going to be a much bigger start than it would of been if it wasn't being advertised as it is with the features that it has.

People seem to want it for different reasons, in some cases the intense meter won them over, then a lot of people with the mutiplayer, just recently with the music and now seeing what the cards do, you get more people on board (yeah those 3 people in the corner).

Possibly the best thing it has, is that the hectic 3rd person action adventure game part is what you're mostly going to be playing. If I saw just those parts and not really the flying, its easy to get excited over such things and come to think of it, has there been a game like this on the 3DS yet?

It was better than Phantom Hourglass, which was perhaps the only Zelda game that makes me wish I was sleeping instead of playing it.

A free roaming ocean is more inventive than restrictive travel and Spirit Tracks requires the mic to advance the game, which invalidates everything that's possibly good in the game, Temple of the Ocean King or not.

So... is this game any good? Do we have some oppinions on this?

Because I can see the game is PACKED with features.

But the AR cards being sold separatedly is bullshit (unless they release then for free on the internet later).

amazon.de is selling the 24 cards pack at 10,99 euros for those interested

and WTF at Nintendo Greece. First they get awesome preorder bonuses with OOT3D and now this. Get a bloody grip, co.uk
That's where all our money ends.

It's quiet expensive.
Also, what will prevent us to "scan" the AR cards directly from a PC screen? Just like the Miis QR codes etc..?
Nothing, these are collectables. If you don't care about the aspect you can just scan the PC screen I guess.

The price for this game still rubs me the wrong way. I'm just not willing to spend over 40 bucks for a handheld game. Not on 3DS, not on Vita and certainly not for a stupid stand inflating the price.

Aside from that the game looks extremely promising.
It's 30 pounds in the UK at the usual places, in line with SM3DL etc.

This stand thing is so weird, but kind of nice in use.

(also, check out my broken B-button)
We need impressions! How did you manage to turn your b-button¿

They'll be on the internet no matter what within hours of people getting them. I wonder if there is something special about the cards that a digital version or print out of them won't work.

It's not inflating the price though... $40 is standard for 3DS games. SM3DL was $40, MK7 was $40, OOT3D was $40.

This game seems to have more content than most console games, I think $40 is totally fine for it.

He's from Germany and I think RRP is € 45. Then again, anyone should order from the UK every time if he/she is concerned about prices (see my other post).

This minimalist approach to an OT is genius. 13 pages long and still going!

I need more info on this game before I make a purchase. The game play looks crazy but at the same time I am afraid the game may bore me quickly. Something about the game play just doesn't look right to me and I can't put my finger on it.

EDIT: Can you give us the souce, please?

I knew it. I'm not the only one who thinks this approach on the controls sucks. I hated every single game that used it on the DS.

At least the game seens good enough. Ugh... It was the first game I was hyped on the 3DS... I don't know if I'll buy a 3DS because of the controls of a game... =(

Buying Nintendo games in Germany usually makes for a pretty good deal. I got Mario Kart 7 for 33€, 3D Land for 35€ and Skyward Sword for 39€ all at launch. I like that about Nintendo games because you really don't have to worry too much about where and when to buy it. They have a fair price from the very beginning and usually don't drop a lot over time (if at all).

Kid Icarus on the other hand seems very expensive to me -- but I'm willing to wait and see if any good deals come up next week.

Not likely. But this is no different from any other collectible card game. People don't have to buy real Pokemon or MTG cards to play with them, but it legitimizes it and the experience is just a whole lot more fun that way.

But if people want to complete the game 100% here, the cards are necessary, right?

The biggest problem is that they'll be difficult for me to acquire/import...

Intuitive controls is such an over used term. Not everything is going to be or is meant to be intuitive. Some things you are going to have to learn anew. KI's controls are not intuitive. But with more and more playtime I was able to do what I wanted when I wanted more and more.

So in the uk they're available through club nintendo in 2 packs of 6 for 250 stars.

My question is are they like packs of stickers where if you buy multiple packs there is a chance of duplicates?

My money's on "yes, exactly like that."

Get 'em, trade 'em with friends, and hopefully get a complete set!

...then sell the entire thing on ebay a year later.

Anyone notice the box has the Nintendo Network logo on it? I think the US ones dont. But still, they plan on supporting this game with DLC? Or is that just an indicator that it has online play?

Online play, yeah. I don't believe Nintendo Network implies any more than that the game has online features.

The music previews on Youtube are crazy good. Iwadare bringing out that Grandia-type scope. The acoustic Sakuraba song is also very nice.
