Kanye's music is not always mainstream, however. Two of his 7 albums were extremely unorthodox and alienating to both his fans and the general public. Not to mention the fact that's he's a black hip-hop artist. I think you'd be hard pressed to argue that hip-hop has as much sales potential as full on pop music does.
