love all these songs.

growing up i never liked GNR. i was into Nirvana, and they were more jockish, alpha male, glam metal than i was into at the time. i liked the Smith and Pixies and Nirvana and stuff so i wasn't a fan.

years later when i was in college, going to parties, i got it. when you are walking around w your friends walking the streets with booze and going from house party to house party and one of them is playing "Welcome to the Jungle", yeah, instantly you get it.

"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" is my vote. first Dylan rules. second the performance is great, a slowed down power ballad. one time i was driving home from a road trip with my friends and we were going through the Appalachian mountains with these massive beautiful valleys that stretched out for miles and this song came on the radio. i felt like i was living in heaven.

Problem with guns and roses is that now whenever I think about them I always think of this goddamn Southpark episode: -

As regards the OP's question. I really like Knocking on Heaven Door, but it's a Dylan cover so in that respect 'Sweet Child of Mine' wins as it's an original song.

Slash isn't real :messenger_dizzy:

I'd say Estranged is GnR's best slow song. One in a Million is great too.
You Could Be Mine in my favorite non-slow GnR song. I love that mean guitar work. Dust n' Bones is right up there too.

That's my favorite GnR song, too.. but this thread is about slow songs.
I don't really like any of their slow songs.. the reason Appetite for Destruction was such a good album is that it largely eschewed that sort of thing. Even Sweet Child O' Mine has a really cool guitar solo.

The fun thing about November Rain is that the song existed for 10 years before it was released! You can listen to demo versions of it from 1986 and it can be dated back to 1983 at the earliest with members of L.A. Guns talking about it. Axl worked on the song for 10 years because he was sure it was his magnum opus.

Best slow song (or song period) and their best video.

About 3 year ago GnR played Melbourne and we went along not expecting too much.

5 songs in and let's just say they sounded like a band who hadn't done a soundcheck or anything.

Then they played this.

The tone on Slashes guitar.

Axl's voice had warmed up.

10 minutes later I turned to my brother with the biggest grin, and he was grinning back and I said "they just played the fucking arse off that song."

What a great moment.

Easily November Rain, brilliant song, one of the great rock and roll guitar solos of all time, and of course the music video.

That song is on my “anyone someone mentions it I have to listen to it” list so I’ll go do that now.

i have never wanted to smack the absolute crap out of a gaffer more than i do right now

Well I certainly love you too!

I admit I had no place coming in here talking negative abt the band. Sunday morning. I apolagize for that. That was rude

But let me clarify myself a bit better. The music itself is good, the quality is there and the talent as well. It’s just Axl Rose with his terrible voice dragging the whole thing into the ground.

nah man no apoogies necessary, you werent rude at all. i was just makin a joke. and i dont disagree with you about the quality of axl's vocals. it just fits the kind of down and dirty aesthetic that GnR has. its all good tho i was just teasin.

check out the chris cornell cover of patience (i posted it just above). his vocals are insanely good on that song, blows Axl's out of the stratosphere

Axl Rose is a great performer, however, sometimes i crack up when i listen to him sing. often he sounds like a muppet.

November Rain. It's like the best most stupid over indulgent rock song ever.
they have a few! there is also "Estranged". try to top Slash on an aircraft carrier and Axl swimming with dolphins!

All our good, I think for me I will put Sweet Child first because the solo is probably Slash's finest imo.

Love the others too.
