Knockout Game: This is actually a thing? WTF!

The worrying 'game' is played by choosing victims at random and trying to knock them to the ground with one punch. More and more people report being victimized by its callous 'players.'

This disturbing game is a hit with goons.

"Knockout" is an emerging trend among unhinged teens that consists of targeting a passerby at random and trying to lay them out with one punch.

That's it.

Participants call this — the game's singular move — the "one hitter quitter."

Their victims can be anyone: elderly men or mothers with kids are not exempt. This poor attempt at manliness — i.e. thinly veiled cowardice — has even ended in death.

Most of the knockout incidents have taken place in the New York metro area.

New York-based CBS 2 shed light on the fisticuff fad earlier this month with a report on the twisted game in Jersey City.

"You just knock them out. You hit them with a blow and you take their belongings," one teen told the station.

Another youngster said that people participate simply "for the fun of it." But another said wannabe tough guys are interested in whether their friends actually have the strength to strike somebody down.

Phoebe Connolly, of Vermont, told ABC affiliate WJLA that she was targeted while riding her bike in the Columbia Heights section of Washington, D.C.

"My whole head went flying to the side… it was a hard punch," Connolly said. "One kid came from the side and pretty much cut me off. He threw a hook with his left hand and got me right in the face and he said, 'Wapow!'"

This month, New York police have been investigating whether attacked-Jews in Crown Heights were victims of anti-Semitic hate crimes or knockout, as the Daily News previously reported.

Back in September, a New Jersey man, 46-year-old Ralph Santiago, was found dead with a broken neck and his head between two fence spikes in Hoboken, the Jersey Journal said. Some suspect he was a victim of the warped game.

Hoang Nguyen, 72, of St. Louis, died from knockout while walking home from a store in April 2011, according to the St. Louis Patch-Dispatch.

The Missouri paper reported that the attacker, 20 year-old Elex Murphy, was convicted of second-degree murder, first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He was sentenced to 55 years in prison.

But many other knockout "players" have dodged the law and could even be planning to play again.

Bunch of idiots. This has been going on for a while though, happened to my brother 6-7 years ago in Austin. He had a flat tire and thought someone was about to offer help, only to get sucker punched in the jaw, cracking a tooth in the process. And hitting girls while they're riding a bike? Throw the book at all of em.

This is awful, it's not a game that's just doing it a disservice its just thugs being cunts

Anyway the only silver lining to this is when we get a video of some dickhead picking in the wrong guy and taking a beating
 
I'm normally a very peaceful person but if a young punk tried this on someone and got their ass whooped in return, I'd be pretty happy.
 
We just had a thread about this, absolutely idiotic behavior.

I've seen these type of groups before irl acting like childish thugs, it's as if they think it's a movie.

That one's not senseless violence, that's just a mugging.

Seems some of the ones successfully prosecuted are very lucky a judge doesn't consider this gang violence and sentences accordingly..

Keep pretending that playing that war porn "national anthem" before sports events on tv and at school does not make our youth violent.

How's this for the latest game: kids have been taking guns into stores; the game is to kill the owner and take all his money.

Also, kids have been playing a new game: follow girls as they leave bars and rape them.

This happened in London not the US and the guy who did it was mentally disturbed. Very sloppy research on that newstations part.

Anyway the worst thing you can do as we learned when idiots over here in london were doing this about 7 years ago is publicize it. It had all died down then one of our news channels did a half an hour show about the phenomenon and guess what?

It basically spread all over the UK overnight so for the next few months something that had died down was given new life.

Taking a beating seems like they'd be getting off light. I'd be fine with seeing said dickhead getting shot for it.

Same, but the problem is, they won't pick the big guy who looks like he can handle himself or the guy with his buddies. They pick the old guy walking down the street, the mom with a bag of groceries, the kid skateboarding alone.

And the problem is, they don't see it coming. Very hard to take a full on sucker punch that the guy is throwing with all his might and wake up.

It's just disgusting and shows the depravity of modern American youth these days if this is what constitutes fun. Sort of reminds me of some Clockwork Orange type shit.

Barring that one kid who described a mugging, the only intent of this is to hit a random stranger. There is no profit motive, no targeting of known individuals, just a game of seeing if you can knock someone out with one punch. The only motive is the 'game', making it different to your examples.
 
There should be a few variations:

Sucker punch
Side Swipe (can only hit from the side)
Behind the head

wow, just kidding.. that is very dangerous. Don't even think about attempting this.
 
Also, what's up with the taking the belongings part? Do they think the police will let them off when they were just playing a game instead of fucking assault and robbery?

Dumb shit like this reminds me of when I used to grow up in a rough neighborhood. Kids would play "body shots" which was just fist fighting but you couldn't punch each other in the face. Fucking stupid.

I agree. But it just shows that there is a number of potential "players". Kids that totally would fatally hurt random strangers just for the fun and to be cool in their group. How can we seed a minimum of responibility and compassion in today's youth? So sad
 
In a perfect world, this wouldn't happen.

In our less-than-perfect world, I can only hope these people throw a punch, hit the victim, but not hard enough to knock them out, then the victim gets up and unveils his legally concealed handgun and shoots the perpetrator. Not a deadly enough shot to kill the perpetrator, but enough to hurt him and then allow the police to come and arrest him.

Shit this annoys me. I can understand people down on their luck and getting involved with stealing shit to make ends meet (not that I can say it's justified, but I can understand it). I cannot understand being so bored you use lethal force on a random target just for shits and giggles.
