Here is a break down of what seems to be happening with a lot of important 3rd parties at the momenent :

Games company : Hey Sony/MS/N we are a big games company and we have important titlles that you want... so... erm.... given we are going back to zero userbase and we can make a difference, how much of a sweetner are you going to offer?

MS: Oh, we'll give you X yen!

Games company : Great ! Sony, MS said they'd give us X yen!

Sony : Really? we'll give you Y yen ! (where Y > X)

Games company : Great ! MS , Sony said they'd give us Y yen!

MS: Oh, really? we'll give you.... etc etc

unitil someone says "F*ck that, they can have you"

So, that would equate to money hats from both sides! *** WORLD IMPLODES***

Or perhaps it went more like this:

Games company: Hey guys, how much will you give me for my hot exclusive sex?!

MS: Oh shit, we want that exclusive sex, please! We'll give you this much money (where money > a shit ton)

Games company: Okay! Now MS is giving us massive fellacio, how about you, Sony? :D

Sony: Eh? I'm the pimp in this equasion, whore.

Games company: Oh? Yeah, well...

*Games company makes game for PS3*

Sony: Right.

Bildmaterial folgt voraussichtlich heute Nachmittag. Release: TBA.

Ahh that's a little better. I know Kojima liked that Death of a Gunfighter movie he did so I thought it was going to be him.

Just choose Murata, its the safest bet if Kojima isn't doing it.

Alan Smithee is NOT A PERSON :P

A director credits a film as 'directed by Alan Smithee' when the film is so bad they don't want their name to be associated with it. With Kojima here it's a joke.

Ok, if anyone doubts that Alan Smithee IS NOT A PERSON here is your proof:

While it seems unfair that one filmmaker should bear the brunt of so many lousy films, let it be known that Alan Smithee is not a real person at all, but rather a perverse fiction designed for those refusing to own up to the results of their actions. It is not just directors who invoke his name. Producers and screenwriters, even actors, occasionally, hide behind Smithee.

now you get Kojima's joke, yes? :P

This has got to be one of the funniest quotes I've seen on a message board. It's like irony just smacked peedi in the face and he didn't even realize it.

oh, I'm well aware. The joke is that this name is used primarily by directors whose movies are taken out of their hands by the studio.

Basically says that the director for MGS4 is as of yet unknown. That MGS1-3 are a trilogy, and MGS4 is a new beginning. The theme of MGS1 was gene, of MGS2 was meme, and MGS3 had scene.

At the press conference, they showed a red '4' and the text "New beginning - no hiding - no Hideo". Then they also say that the number 3 has an important meaning, since it's been 3 years between each MGS game, and MGS3 is coming out on 3/3.

thnx!

I hope they show a trailer at E3 :D

I love Kojima but I'm REALLY interested to see what his team can do without his every involvement.

A new beginning sounds fantastic! I'm more excited for this game then I was for 3 (that's due in part to my huge dislike of part 2).

Now Kojima is free to do whatever he pleases (hopefully), this is very good news.

How does that make me a fanboy? A fanboy, in my opinion, is one who resists the possibility that a console might be to their liking, out of some asinine brand allegiance. That's not me. I own an Xbox, and gave it enough chances, only to see it sit almost unplayed for the past year or so. I've tried every big title, from Halo 2 to Ninja Gaiden, and I haven't been impressed. So, when someone suggests, however facetiously, that MGS3 might hit the Xbox instead of the PS3, I get nervous, because I really have no intention of being burned by M$ again. I am definitely not a fanboy, dude.

Though I know you are not resisting the possibility that the Xbox 2 might be to your liking not out of brand allegiance I still think you should give them a chance. Yes I do realize that giving each company a clean slate is difficult to do.

It'd be pretty damn awesome of MGS4 launches for all platforms simultaneously.

EDIT: Made a typo, bolded is what was corrected.

You're "definitely not a fanboy" but you've already decided that you're "definitely not going to get an xbox 2"? You have no idea about the hardware or the software, but you've already made the decision to go with PS3 instead of xbox 2? Could you please explain to me how that has anything to do with something other than "asinine brand loyalty"?

And it doesn't take a genius to realize someone who spells Microsoft as "M$" has a serious fanboy issue they need to deal with.

Shouldn't the Xbox's content this gen serve as a precursor to what one should anticipate next generation? If that's the case, why should I give them a clean slate? If the Xbox's library next-gen will be relatively unchanged from what we've seen of their catalog NOW, there's absolutely no reason for me to give them a clean slate.

Hey sorry about that, I fixed my mistakes in my previous post and bolded what was changed.

You are right, what MS has done in the past should be on everyone's minds as a barometer to how they are approaching their new system. However you should at least give them a bit of a chance to prove their worth to you as a viable platform. Especially since we haven't seen what they plan to do or the software they plan to release and support it with.

I'm not asking you to change your mind, just give it a bit more time and see how their strategies pan out before writing them off. E3 should be an excellent showcase for you to make a desicion. This of course can be applied to any other platform.

Apologies for being off topic.

Not really. A big reason why the games look so good and are polished is because Team Kojima picks a platform and then builds the game completely around that system. Making it for all 3 platforms at the sametime would screw things up.

Well, to be fair, next-gen's gfx will be such that we can forgive that. :)

No, you're right. And I'm trying to keep an open mind. But, I just don't see them garnering much more third party support than they did this generation, which makes me hesitant. I really do feel as if I was burned by the Xbox. The PS2 was a gift, while the Xbox I bought.

I'll try to do as you said -- I'll wait for E3.

That statement was purely in the realm of fantasy so don't take it too seriously. I could imagine a scenario of pure awesomeness if the game were available to all major sectors of the console market within a time frame of a few months.

Would it drastically increase sales, would the effort required in having multiple teams working on the ports along with the main team justify the costs, would it drastically push back the release date of the game? There are too many factors to think realistically on the possibility of that happening.

Peedi said:

Sorry, I hope I wasn't coming off as thinking like I'm right. It's all opinion and what works best for you don’t necessarily work best for me, etc. I completely understand your position and I'd also be hesitant if the company’s previous product burned me. Hopefully this new trend of Microsoft's continues and they really start to bring in the third party support. Then again that means two consoles you'd have to buy and I can imagine the wallet not being too happy about that, heh heh.

I cant believe this. You guys are arguing over which console it will be on when MGS4, a game that will be part of one of the greatest series ever has just been announced, rather than what the game will be like. Personally, i think its on PS3 or both PS3 and Xbox2.

Now as for the game, im worried:

number four will kick off a brand new series featuring Solid Snake.
What exactly does this mean. Will all the characters from MGS1,2 and 3 just disappear? Will this mean that there is no Ocelot, no liquid, no patriots, no nothing? I still want to find out what happens to The Patriots and to see if they get defeated and if they do what happens then? I want to know what happnes to Olga's baby, i want to see what happens to big boss between MGS3 and MG. I would have liked MG and MG2 remade. Im pissed off with this news. maybe ive misread, but to see the MGS world as we know it disappear and start from scratch is a bad idea. Im sure that they can do a good job with the new one, but if they do it, Im gonna miss the MGS1, 2 and 3 characters so much.
