Summarizing:
With Kojima Productions he wants to create a studio which will be recognized for high quality products.
The key elements of MGS3 Subsistence will be 3D camera and online gaming.
For online they have thought about Xbox Live but since they should have ported all the game to Xbox causing a delay in MGS4 they decided to go with PS2.
Botkai DS is planned.
They have a surprise which will be probably unveiled at TGS.
In MGS4 they will pass from a set to a real world. He doesn't want to make fake or plastic worlds anymore.

Aw damnit, he considered MGS3:S for Xbox but decided against it. I have to wait until PS3 to play MGS3.

GS: Looking forward, do you think this next generation of consoles are going to be revolutionary or evolutionary?

HK: Well, maybe a revolution will not occur. The biggest shock these days, well back in the past, was going from 2D to 3D because of the hardware. So, PS2, Xbox came, and then there was a breakthrough about network, or everyone connecting. And then right now there's nothing new planned. I mean, there's not going to be any new smell or anything.

....

I think, well I personally say the theme of the next platform in terms of creating games is not real, but go to natural in terms of...not upgrading the graphics to make it look superreal, but more...maybe natural movement or natural things there. Digital to analog. Everything was digital in the past up until today, but maybe this analog aspect should be more recognized, much more. Also as I explained earlier, not the set, not the fake thing anymore, the real world. If we think in that way, I think we could see the next step in games.
Finally someone that gets it.

he's gonna be on g4 later today

Ah common! MY TV JUST DIED!, is anyone going to capture it and torrent it? I'd really like to see it, I have to wait till next week for RCA to bring me a replacement TV :(

g4 should have a downloadable video on their site in the evening. they've posted videos of their e3 coverage throughout the week

That was a great interview. I like this guy even more :D

I just know MGS4 is gonna kick ass. "Kojima Productions products" are listed as DS online titles too. Perhaps that's what he's getting at with the Boktai talk... and maybe Boktai isn't all those team(s) are doing either.

I think Nintendo would do well to word their Revolution "ideas > prettier sets" philosophy that Kojima seems to share. That is, if their hardware enables such visions.

Ahhhhh!!!! MGS3 SUB should be on LIVE. Now I have to buy a freaking PS2 network adapter (which I was going to do for PSU anyway I guess so I shouldn't bitch... no point to this reply I guess lol :P)

Too bad they haven't mentioned a making-of. Now it feels kind of...incomplete.

I'm still gonna buy it, though :D

Damn it! All the online play stuff makes the Xbox version of MGS3:S perfect! :(

Stupid PS2 Online ugh. Oh well.

September, iirc. Expect to see alot of PS3 stuff to quiet the 360 buzz.

I think Nintendo might reveal some Revolution info there. But they rarely take part in TGS isnt that right?

I always love to read interviews with Kojima, do people know (upcoming) interviews with Hideo from other sites? Someone post the link to G4's interview too when it's online.

Kojima was his usual slightly cryptic self but I wonder what he's getting at with the whole "setting vs. nature" analogy, and the direction most other developers are going (bigger, prettier sets). I assume he's hinting at things to due with advances in physics, animation, AI making the worlds come alive as opposed to bigger shinier "sets" for the player to experience.

I also think its gonna be interesting (and this is kind of related I suppose) how his team will use the shader technology and more advanced lighting in his next gen MGS, since they havent really had the chance to apply them with the PS2. Some devs on Xbox and PC have overdone it with sterile, shiny, plastic looking artistry that doesn't capture a very natural feel despite the graphical power at their disposal. I always thought the MGS series despite its lack of color and technological limitations did capture its world very effectively with creative ways of getting the most out of their "quirky" hardware. Now that they dont have those limitations Im intrigued by what direction they might take.

Like, for instance, one example if you're playing as an enemy, you know the whole Idol Book part, where there's a sexy magazine that the enemy has to look at in the game? When you're playing in the online mode as the enemy, the same thing happens. Even if you try to resist, the camera pans away to that book. You'll get to know the feeling of what the enemy has felt in the past.

:lol :lol

Does he mean when it's released or when development becomes steady?

When its on track, which for him will likely be when its done. :P I think its become pretty obvious that as much as the guy wants to let go of the series, he can't. He doesn't trust it with anyone else, which is good for us. :)
