KOTOR Movie - Yay or Nay?

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
I love the two first KOTOR games and consider it the best SW after the OT.

There are very strong hints, especially in the Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary that Disney is working on a KOTOR movie series and that it might be the 2022 next trilogy.

Now I'm a bit more tolerant than some when it comes to the ST. While I think TLJ was the worst SW mainline film I didn't hate it as much as others did.

That being said, I'd have to say "nay" to KOTOR adaption.

I think Disney will pretty much butcher the characters and story especially under Kathleen Kennedy's watch.

However I might have a new hope (pun fully intended) if, say rumors of Keanu Reeves being cast as Revan come to light. Ngl I'd love to see him in that role.

Overall though my hope would be for them to just slap the two games as canon. But that's wishful thinking on my part.

Imo Disney should give SW movies a long break.

And somewhat off topic, as much as I love Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan, I think a series is a dumb idea.

I think the period makes sense for them to use but I don't expect them to adapt anything from the games directly.

Well....

Revan is mentioned in the Visual Dictionary and Palpatine in the movie mentions the dyad Force Bond has been used before.

I don't care if it KOTOR or just TOR, The Old Republic is the only direction to take future SW big screen releases imo

completely distance yourself from the Skywalker Saga

It's possible but I think that was probably just written by someone wanting to throw out a fun reference for the fellow KOTOR fans out there. Also if they announced a movie involving Revan then it would take 2 minutes before everyone's social media feed was full of pop culture sites spoiling the twist.

I don't know.

I loved Kotor, as a game. I don't know how it would translate as a movie, likely needing a lot of creative writing and scenarios replacing the parts that only work well in a game. Even a two hour run-time seems like it would struggle with the sheer scope of Kotor. Taris seems like it could be it's own movie, or half of one, and it's the same with the Jedi training. Maybe a trilogy, but I still have doubts.

As someone else mentioned, it's also going to be interesting when a bunch of mainstream Star Wars fans have the twist spoiled for them by geeks who played it twenty years ago.

The structure is certainly solid, tho. MacGuffin chase through five or six planets, legendary twist, cool story ideas, a different time and place, wholly removed from the stuff we've gotten overly used to.

I feel like pilfering elements from this for a new movie, could work, but a direct adaptation would be challenging, if not impossible. The former approach could also preserve the twist for people, if they don't know it's Kotor-inspired, going in.

Knights of the Old Republic setting? Hell yes

Adaptation of the videogames? No. Mandalorian and Rise of Skywalker are already very videogamey. They are fun but I'd like to see some proper filmmaking again.

Yeah I'd be down with this.

Canonize the games bur have the films take place in the same era but not be an adaption.

i rather they make movie or Disney+ series based on Tales of the Jedi comics. if you guys haven't read this series, it is really good.

Remaster the games then give me KOTOR3
I'd be on board with this big time.

Never played SWTOR btw. I heard they made some bad decisions regarding Revan's fate. Which is why I say DisneyLucas should just canonize the first two games.

However there's people unhappy with Kreia's view on the Force.

With the current leadership at LucasFilm they'd probably fuck it up. I'm also not sure the story-line of the games would adapt to a movie or T.V. series.

Frankly finding starmaps for the first 3/4ths of the story would be pretty dull. Thus imo would need to be fully re-done, only leaving the climax of the game in-tact (revan revelation + star forge assault). I seriously doubt re-imagining the bulk of the story sits well w/Disney, thus they'd be better off making their own original content.

There was a comic series and novels under the same name. Either of those could be adapted easier then the game.

The 'twist' at the end of the game is just as predictable as anything in the recent movies, so it would fit right in. And they could just use the same exact lines from the game, which would be an incredibly huge step up from the movies.

I don't see the movies being able to visit so many planets with any type of substance in just >2 hours, though, so I'd say it's probably not a wise idea.

Not sure I'd like to see a movie adaptation of the game but I'd be down to see the lead up to it. Show Revan, Malak and other Jedi defy the Order to fight the Mandalorians and their fall to the dark side. This would be an opportunity to show force users exploring the grey area between Jedi and Sith.
