This OT has been a long time coming. The game started as a freeware little game, which you can find here, but then evolved into an episodic game series on Steam which has been slowly releasing all of its episodes as 'sequels' to a movie that is a game, very appropriate with the 80s horror theme that's all over this game. And as of today, the whole entire package is done! The last two episodes released today, and now the game is complete.

(the following may be best read with this theme playing in the background)

Lakeview Cabin Collection is a Horror-Comedy game where you find yourself in a horror movie. You start off in a movie theater, and make your selection of which iteration of Lakeview Cabin you want to watch (there are 5 'films', or episodes in total). Each film has a different theme, objective, and style, but all work off the same basic gameplay mechanics. You switch control between four different characters (who all follow horror tropes of some kind), and then are let free into a horror playground. You can do everything from drink beer until you vomit, get a guitar and play music (or whack others over the head with it), streak naked, kill your friends, explore, play around, solve puzzles, try to survive, or be killed -- as you're not alone. Each episode has various dangers, ranging from crazed chainsaw sociopaths, killer mutant rats, parasite-driven aliens, paranormal entities who can drag you to hell, and a lot more. Those who want to fuck around and have fun, can! Those who want to survive the terrors and reach one of multiple endings to each episode, can! There's horror, there's comedy, there's challenge, there's a ton of secrets, and it can be fun for both those who wish to approach it casually, and those who want to approach it hardcore and survive. It's a very unique game, and one that can be an absolute blast.

So what are the episodes of Lakeview Cabin Collection like?

Lakeview Cabin (Episode 1) is the original freeware game that you can download. It's not in the main collection, but isn't really all that needed as an improved updated 'remake' of the first episode is Episode 3 in the main collection (though this might confuse some as Episodes 2-6 are in the collection, but not episode 1). This stars a singular character on a lake cabin as a killer haunts him... Not much more to say, if you want to try the original, it's available, but know an improved version of this is in the actual collection.

The first main episode of the game (we'll get to Episode 2 later), Lakeview Cabin III, a remake of episode 1 featuring a bigger island, more characters, more to do, more killers, and more chaos. You and some friends are staying on an island with a set of cabins and facilities, day and night passes, and you can party and have fun... But beware, as something more sinister may hide in the darkness of the quaint island cabin.

It is the first chapter of the collection, but the third movie. It takes place on the closed down Camp Lakeview in the middle of The Lake. It follows the story of four adults who came to the island, with their dog, to refurbish the camp for future use. It takes place sometime in the 1970s.

Lakeview Cabin IV: Curse of the Lake is the second episode in the collection. This one features a female band who ends up running out of gas next to an abandoned gas station. They go to venture, and find enough gas to get themselves out of here, but crazed traps in a killer mansion, twisted locales of the village, and more await at this deadly stop. This episode also features a heavy amount of randomization, meaning that you'll get different experiences as you go through an almost twisted labyrinth of a mansion.

Lakeview Cabin V: Homecoming is the third episode in the game. You play as a group of teenagers in a neighborhood that is being haunted by a supernatural killer from beyond the grave. When you die, you end up in an afterlife where you can be resurrected if you face a trial and succeed. This episode is far more puzzle based than the other episodes, and requires you to figure things out to succeed (or just say fuck that and mess around in the different houses).

Lakeview Cabin V: Homecoming is all about four teenagers out and about sometime around Halloween. Strange happenings occur where a killer with a striking resemblance to Micheal Myers from "Halloween" randomly appears and attacks them. The gameplay includes collecting clues, summoning creatures to help kill the killer, and finding different way to both die and come back to life.

Lakeview Cabin 6: CABIN6 is the fourth episode in Lakeview Cabin Collection. Lakeview Cabin VI takes place on a spaceship overlooking a destroyed planet Earth. It draws large amounts of inspiration from the movies Alien and The Thing. Survive the intergalactic terrors, and the infesting invasion of body-shifting parasites and monstrosities.

---

When you complete the other four episodes in Lakeview Cabin Collection (3-6) and get at least one ending, you unlock Lakeview Cabin 2, the fifth and final episode, one I will not spoil, but is a prequel to the other episodes.

I'm going to be posting my impressions and experiences with the game myself as I haven't fully delved into it. While busy with this weekend, I'll probably be playing it next week and post how it all goes down for me. Who here may try it now that it's all out? Never heard of it and interested? Played it and have thoughts to share? Let's get caught up in this series of games that may or may not be films, GAF. After all, it's just an indie game...

I thought this had an OT already. The game is just awesome, and probably the best slasher movie inspired game this side of Until Dawn

Had this on my wishlist for a while.. saw a playthrough and it looked great.

Reminds me of that old C64 Friday the 13th game in a way.

Glad to hear its complete. Ever since I saw it in one of Giant Bomb's Quick Looks (back when only part 3 was out) I thought it looked interesting. Added to wishlist!

And by the way, great OP. The Steam page sells itself short--if I hadn't seen the QL or this OP I'd have never have given it a second look.

haven't had the chance to fire up 6 yet, it's weird this game didn't have an OT up until now.

I honestly was in the same boat, I thought the game had an official topic. But to my surprise, it not only never had an OT, it's never even ever had a topic dedicated to it. Now that the full thing is out and all 5 (6, if you count the original freeware game) episodes are out, good a time as any to raise awareness and discussion.

I wonder what we were all thinking of, though. Maybe Steam Sale threads? I do not disagree though, it's one of the best slasher games to exist. I need to delve into Episode 6 soon and the other episodes and complete them sometime, too.

I think the inspiration is kind of there, the game makes some references to older horror games that were based on Slashers. For example, the 5th episode of the game has references to the NES Nightmare on Elm Street game. But it does them much better, and has core gameplay mechanics that lend themselves well to the zaniness.

I also think the game sells itself short, playing it is insanely fun, and I know some people got sold on it by GiantBomb's quick look. I don't really know what they should do to sell it better specifically, but it is a case where I think it's a lot better than it looks initially. Tried my best to summarize it without spoiling it, which is a challenge in itself. So many things to mess around and discover in the game, and outside of that, to actually beat the episodes is actually incredibly challenging, let alone beat it with the best ending. Requires a lot of planning, strategy, and working through hardships to survive.

Oh, on this note, the creator with the update notes for the game mentions some future plan stuff.

About the future: I have a little project simmering that I can't wait to show you all. I'm also of course going to keep supporting Lakeview Cabin with fixes and patches so the work is still far from done. Let me know if something seems out of place or not working.

This game is really underrated, the second episode is incredibly tense to play through and it feels so satisfying when you start to make it out with more and more people alive.

I only played the third episode during the beta so I should finish it. Lots of things were broken a few months ago. New episode sounds grand.

Picked it up tonight thanks to the sale.

Great atmosphere, lots of fun hidden things, great homage to the films the game was inspired by. Great price too especially when you break it down by episode/film.

And it has controller support too!

EDIT:
A few posts up is right, it's very tense to play. The music, the way the game ramps up in intensity, keeps things tense, etc. Reminded me in a way of playing Alien Isolation if that makes sense.

I think it's underrated too, and while I personally wouldn't directly compare it to Alien Isolation (even though Episode VI is definitely with some Alien inspiration behind it), it can be a tough cookie and the atmosphere can be strong. It also holds the element you never really know what may be next since the game has a lot of surprises and is actually very challenging.

I'm not even sure what this game is about but fuck it, 4 euros is nothing

It's... a sort of puzzle-y action game? That's been my impression from LVC3, at least. Kinda tough and prone to fatal mistakes.

It does have surprisingly good atmosphere as mentioned above. The musical cues and general use of music are on point.

How easy is it? I know that might be a weird question, but I've been interested in it for a long while now and the thing that's keeping me aways is the thought that I'd probably just mess up a ton and never actually see any of the endings.

I guess my second question is how easy it is to actually get specific endings, but the first question's more important.

If it helps any, there's walkthroughs for every episode as well as hidden stuff, etc.

If all else fails, the endings are likely on youtube as well.

It's a fun, tense game.

OK I bought this the other day. I love the atmosphere.....but WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO??? I want to try to do this without a guide, but none of the stuff has a description so I'm not sure what the hell half of it is. Like I got to the end of the map and there was a camp fire. I lit it, and now if I try to go past it I get lit on fire. I really like the atmosphere and I'm sure it will grow on me, and by no means do I enjoy handholding in games, but this seems like trial and error the game. Also, I went through a day/night cycle with no killer. Is that normal?

100% normal. The killer will show up at a certain point. If you want to see him:
try activating the generator, just past the two-story building with the crane thingy.

As to what to do after that... well, it will be your natural response, I think.
