Lara Croft GO |OT| Rise of the (touchscreen) Tomb Raider

I hope this comes on the Windows 8.1 Store in UK soon. I've got it on iPad and its beautiful but I'd like to have 2 copies, one for when I'm at home and one for when I'm out.

Oh my God this game is great. It looks amazing, the interface is top notch and the music is great. The only bad thing is I'm halfway done with it!

Ok I finally got the game bought and downloaded, but now it just says 'please return to full screen mode' when I launch it, no matter if its windowed or fullscreened :/

Anyone managed to get this to download on their Windows Phone? It's available in the store, I bought it, can download it on my Surface 2, but it just gets stuck on "waiting" on my 640. Tried installing both on SD and internal memory, no difference. Starting to get mighty annoyed.

Edit: third reboot, and it's starting to download now.

Thought this was a bit too easy first, but it gets harder now.

At the moment I'm totally stuck on this one in world 3:

Seems my only two options are the beige or the yellow switch as I can only go over the cracked ground once and I need that to go to the platform. I can't reach the brown switch without either destroying the cracked ground or activating the yellow ball (which will destroy the cracked ground two moves later). The yellow ball will also be always earlier at the cracked ground than I am.

Any hint? I have no idea right now.

EDIT:
Okay got it.
Didn't realize the yellow ball can fill the hole there.

Once you hit the fourth area (Maze of Spirits) the game really hits its stride. Between floor switches, column moving, spike traps shooting from the walls and torches, it totally nails the old Tomb Raider feel in a turn-based setup. Super-engaging, and I'm glad it did a away with the "X number of turns" objectives: That works for a Hitman stealth game since it requires you to calculate every movement, but since LC Go doesn't you're not discouraged from experimenting and moving things around.

Really glad I grabbed this, and it inspired me to go back to Hitman Go too!

Finished it. Got all the unlockables too. My impression is that compared to Hitman GO, this is far easier, and feels more compact. Part of the reason is that Hitman had a bunch of optional challenges which required actual replaying of stages with different techniques, while here the only replay required it just to find hidden treasures in the backgrounds you have missed, before exiting back to the menu. Another reason would be that I think Hitman had a lot more filler stages leading up to the assassinations, some of which were much more simplistic than others. The presentation and overall pacing of Lara Croft GO is much better, but it does feel that it lacks that extra punch for more hardcore puzzle fans. Hopefully there'll be challenge rooms or something later on.

The graphics are top notch for what it's going for, and the level design and "boss" planning for the final stretch was really well thought out. What I like most about the GO games is that they really capture the tone and feel of the respective franchises in turn based puzzle form. It was a great decision to make Hitman feel like a board game with static pieces, while Tomb Raider is more animated and feels like an actual mini-adventure.

Looking forwatd to Deus Ex GO next year. :P

I've finished it but I didn't collect all the relics as it is almost 4:30am in my time zone.

I like it better than Hitman GO but it felt kinda short but really fun.

The boss fight is really clever, and I loved that Lara randomly performed some of her signature moves - like the handstand.
Liked the game so much I bought it for Windows too.

Loved Hitman GO so this is an automatic purchase for me.

Can't wait for iPhone 6s Plus launch soon to enjoy this game in full-screen glory!

These guys are really fantastic. It may be easier than Hitman but it just feels really great to play. I can see the Monument Valley inspiration for the aesthetic, and it just works so well for this. I wouldn't mind seeing something of theirs that doesn't use the sliding piece mechanic but I'll also absolutely take a Deus Ex GO in this exact style too.

This was an impulse buy for me as I had some money left on my Paypal anyway, but I'm really enjoying my time with this. Played a bit in bed yesterday, and an hour or two on the train today. Seems like I'm getting close to the end though, I'm about halfway through the second to last world. Feels a bit short, but I can't complain with that price.

Have they confirmed anything about them adding more puzzles later?

Edit: Hah, decided to Google a bit to see if I could find the answer myself, and found this youtube interview with the Brand Manager. At one point she's talking about the success of Hitman Go and says (with a French accent) 'You know, when we announced it, on NeoGaf for example, people were like: "We didn't ask for this"...).

She's rubbing her (
well-deserved
) success in our faces guys.

Hopefully, this success means we can have a tiny Adam Jenson to play with next.

I started playing this on my PC tonight since I still have an older phone that can't play it. Really cool game. Captures the spirit of TR in a game that feels like it'd be a great fit for phone touch controls. Some rather neat puzzles so far. And I like a lot of the little nods to classic TR like the way the menu is setup. Very fun game so far.

omg do they read GAF? that's cool

Anyway I got this yesterday and it's been really fun. I even caved in and bought the costume pack. When's Lara Croft GO 2

I ended up playing through this whole thing tonight. Even found all the little treasures and stuff. Not that long, but oh man is it fantastic. Honestly one of my favorite games of the year.

I cashed in some Google Opinion Survey credits and bought this ($4.99 is a bit steep for my typical Android gaming purchases) and have been very pleasantly surprised. I would've been happy had I spent $4.99 of "real money" instead.

I haven't played Hitman Go but anyone on the fence about playing a Tomb Raider game via touch interface, rest assured, the interface works well and it's definitely a puzzle game as opposed to an action game requiring quick/accurate movement. I recommended checking this game out.

Just finished it.

Fantastic game. Overall a bit easy, but loved the concept, the art, the music. Really felt like a part of the Tomb Raider games I've been missing. I absolutely loved how there were no tutorials. They introduced new mechanics through gameplay sections. That was awesome. Just a really great game.

Bought Hitman Go as well, so going to play that next. :)

This is such a fantastic game. My favourite puzzle game in a while, and I play quite a few.

I didn't like Hitman Go. At all. I hate the art. The stone throwing is weird. And the pillar-dancing forced movement step felt much worse in this than with the non-human creatures in Lara Craft Go.

I admit I found Hitman Go pretty hard. some of those puzzles really stumped me and killed my momentum.

It wasn't because it was hard that I didn't want to continue, but rather that the behaviour of the people seemed so bizarre.

Yeah, I like Hitman Go but I can never bring myself to play more than one or two levels in a single session since it seems to be mostly trial and error. I especially dislike the objectives which require you to move back and forth between the same two spaces multiple times to just get the NPCs to line up in just the right way.

Haaa.

We do read GAF. We love you guys.

(Also I'm not a fan of doing interviews - the GameReactor dudes were awesome but being on camera is definitely not my thing!)

This game is lovely, it's a perfect continuation of the Go concept without feeling beholden to the board game aesthetic and stealth focus of Hitman. Beautiful art style with lots of animation, and the more adventure oriented puzzles are a fit for the character without totally throwing out enemy patterns and concepts that worked previously. Hope it does well, would love to play one of these every year or so.

I agree with the latter part, but how can a game in which every piece of the puzzle is a known quantity be considered trial and error?

I mean, aside from the levels that introduce something new where you have to spend 15 seconds observing how the new puzzle pieces work.

I was surprised at how well they retrofitted the turn based style of Hitman into a TR game. When they announced it I just couldn't see it being a good fit but it really does make sense when you picture TR as just a series of encounters in caves. The animation is what really sells the experience, too.

Just 100%'d it, I did find that some of the collectibles were a bit too hidden, and the system too easily subverted. there were two in particular that I couldn't find and started just randomly tapping the screen and easily got :/ Felt a bit silly.

Really good game though.

Cough Deus Ex GO Cough ;)
Day 1.

Anyway, just finished it this morning. This is the kind of game that I like on mobile: fun and immediate, with simple mechanics but a decent enough level of complexity behind them. It is a bit short, though. I don't think I'll throw more at it just to unlock an outfit or two, but I hope they'll add more levels. Or a squel.
