Lars Andersen: a new level of archery

The parts where he shows how bad a quiver on the back is are hilarious. They remind me a little of those infomercial clips "If only there was a more easy way to hold all these arrows!"

Well no i was mostly thinking at the difference between this sort of "tricks" and more official, archery competitions, and thought that maybe the former is easier to make look cool than the latter, for an untrained audience (such as myself).

Much like in football a flurry of tricks with the ball can look more impressive than a player running up and down a field in the World Cup, though it isn't necessarily.
 
Damn I want to try that now, not the super crazy stuff, but the firing on the right. As a kid I started shooting arrows on the right side of the bow, but I was eventually told that was the wrong way. I am still more comfortable shooting that way, because I don't shoot very often. Unfortunately my bow can only be fired on the left.

Most filler infantry on a medieval battlefield didn't wear chainmail. And infantrymen in Arabia/North Africa didn't wear it on principle, due to the heat/fatigue problem.

I have never seen that and I've done archery for a very long time. Other than that and looking like a goober when jumping around, he's very skillful. The VO was killing me.

Who doesn't do it that way? If you've been doing archery for a very long time and you've been putting the arrow on the side of the string drawing hand, then you have been doing archery wrong for a very long time. Putting the arrow on the side of the bow holding hand is the standard way of doing it. It is literally how modern bows are designed to be used.

I don't use a modern bowmachine, that and firing from the right is the traditional way. You can pretty much go back throughout history and see this to be true. My bow can be fired by right handed or left handed people, I don't own a modern bowmachine with weights, scopes, twisty knobs and other knicknacks.

My other bow is a yumi (granted it's broken)...and we fire those from the right side as well.
 
i mean, the "catching / splitting / whatnot an incoming arrow" are clearly trying hundreds of times to finally have the trick work for a single take.

all the other shit's pretty impressive. Especially the entire "holding an extra 'mag' of arrows in your drawing hand"

the jumping looked pretty goofy. like 'geek wielding a lightsaber' goofy.
 
Really impressive but the VO sounds like a monologue for an action TV show.

Lars Anderson found the secrets long forgotten in the tomes of history. Now he uses this ancient skill in our time...fighting crime..

A little silly but some of the things they showed off really rocked.

I'm interested in trying out holding arrows in the draw hand, doesn't seem so hard since he showed off so many techniques for it.
 
Yeah, modern archery seem so boring compared to the ancient ways. A lot of our ideas of ancient people are probably wrong too, like how the greek statues and architecture were very colorful, not the classic all marble clean and white we see in Hollywood movies today.

9-1-1? I just saw three guys get killed in a drive-by shooting. The shooter was a white dude with a bow and arrow, and he shot them up thwop, thwop, thwop, just like that Vulcan dude from those Lord of the Rings movies. DON'T HANG UP ON ME YET, I'M NOT *click*
 
This reminds me of a video I saw showing how most of what we see of sword fighting in movies is completely wrong.

I agree, he's both extremely goofy and extremely skilled.

100 arrows being shot in his general direction is still an impressive display of brass balls.

I'm stunned he isn't wearing any eye protection. 100 attempts even for a skilled archer being shot at is risky.

I don't see how he could've done the splitting arrow thing hundreds of times to get the right take. The arrow was coming at him. If he didn't hit it, it would've hit him.
