I've played Flight Control on the iPod and it was fun. I feel like it would be more fun on a larger screen with a mouse though. Does it get very boring quickly or is it worth the money? Yes, I'm that much of a cheapskate(poor college student)
cmon, does anyone have this game?

Question: Is there anything about your localization that would make it worth playing for people who have already played through the Japanese version?
I don't think so, all they did was translate the japanese text to english iirc.

also I greatly disagree about Jolly Rover, in fact for that one ticket it's the game I chose to write a recommendation for
high five. the bit i played to get the ticket was enjoyable and put a big grin on my face. definitely a game i want to go back to.

Man, Jeff Vogel really needs to get on Steam

Out of curiosity I just googled the guy and discovered he is the developer of some really neat looking indie RPGs that I briefly remember hearing about in the past. It appears he lives in Seattle, too! I feel like I should support him, but how are his games? Good stories? Decent gameplay?

He has quite a few released it seems. Where is a good place to start?

When I first saw Jolly Rover, I was kinda excited. I love adventure games, especially those with six foot tall talking dogs. But it really does look like a Monkey Island clone with dogs.

Does it offer enough originality over Monkey Island that I would feel like I'm playing a totally different adventure?

I think so. It's definitely inspired by Monkey Island, and there are a few puzzles that are real homages to Monkey Island. But it's not like the Pirate point and click is a overwhelmed genre. There's Monkey Islands, Tales, and Jolly Rover. And they really play up the dog thing to be genuinely funny.

It's probably the funniest game I've played in the last year. Maybe I have a really low bar, but I found myself literally laughing out loud multiple times at clever interaction descriptions, text. In fact, one of my favorite things is on top of the screen it always displays your mission. And frequently during conversations the mission will change as you learn more information, and the path it takes can be pretty hilarious.

I don't want to oversell it, it's not a perfect game, it's not the funniest game I've ever played, but is is a very good game I think well worth any point and click fans' attention. It is pretty easy though, but that's not a real downside for me.

And I really enjoyed the developer commentary after beating it, which he does like Valve does. I only played about a quarter of the way through it listening, but it was pretty good and interesting.

For what it's worth, the devs of Jolly Rover are great guys. They helped me with a lot of questions I had about digital distribution of my own game.

Naval Warfare
Star Wars Republic Commando
Steel Storm: Burning Retribution
Woody Two-Legs Attack of the Zombie Pirates
CreaVures
Solar 2

Any thoughts on those? I'm about 80% of the way there on Steel Storm: Burning Retribution after watching Total Biscuit preview it. Same for Solar 2. Does anyone know if you can play Republic Commando in a window without using some program to do it?

Woody Two-Legs preview if you haven't seen it. It's basically a twin stick shooter, looks okay.

Naval Warefare preview
I wrote a rec of CreaVures a few pages back. Definitely recommend it:

A fun, relaxing platformer with absolutely gorgeous backgrounds. Definitely recommended to any platformer fans. The only slight problem is that the game doesn't do a good job on explaining the controls, but they're simple enough anyway--Space to Jump, hold right or left arrow keys to move and down to crouch, and use F to use your current character's special ability. Once you get two characters, use S to switch between them at any time. Once you get three characters, you'll learn that you can only have two of them out at the field at one time. To switch one of your characters currently on the fireld to one that's not, press D at a checkpoint. And that's it. That said though, yeah, definitely recommended to anyone whose looking for a relaxing, beautfiul platformer.

I just beat the game yesterday myself--took me about 6 1/2 hours to do so, according to Steam. Granted, that was with me going after a lot of the collectibles (there are two types of collectibles in the game--Motes and Essence. Motes are typically just along the path to the end of a level, but essences are typically a bit trickier to get and are lesser in number and often require you to switch between multiple creatures, using each of their special abilities to get to them. This adds in a bit of a Metroidvania-style quality to the game, especially as you'll see some motes and essence in the early levels that require the abilities of creatures you don't have yet to get to, and thus you'll have to repeat the level later once you have them if you want to get 100%), but I still don't have 100% of them--it would probably add somewhere around 40 mins-hour to my time if I went after the rest.

Plus, I've only played the game on Easy for now--there are two other difficulty settings that I haven't messed around with at all yet. And since the platforming can be tricky at times just on Easy (though typically it is pretty straightforwards, especially if you're not interested in the collectibles at all), I'd wager that Hard should be a real good challenge for those looking for it.

And lastly, if you're still not convinced, just look at these achievements:

I think I've made my case for why this game needs more love.

So these are the one I'm thinking of getting for the last day of sales, if I had to remove 2 of them though, which of them should I remove? Can anyone unsell me on any of them...

It's DIFFERENT. I haven't gotten too far, but some people swear it's an amazing game, and at the very least you'd be getting something that's very distinguishable from other games.

Good enough for me, it looks like a very moody game.

I bought Blade Kitten, probably the most expensive single thing I've bought in this sale, but I really dug the demo for some reason. There's a mod to remove the framerate cap, which was the thing that kept me from getting the XBLA version.

I have it, it's fun, but I don't play it a whole lot. Mostly use as a time waster waiting on others things to start up. I'd fire it up before raids playing WoW for example.

This game is so weird to me. It's the only side scroller to ever make me feel physically ill. Only a half dozen or less first person shooters and oddly Divinity 2 has ever done that.

I hear Everyday Shooter is a bit of a mess playing keyboard wise and doesn't have gamepad support. Chime didn't sell me on it's demo, but it is for a good cause so...hmmm.

Oh man, I'm glad that was posted. It never dawned on me to check the forum for gamepad support in a game like this, that's an odd omission.

Are Lune, Eschalon: Book I and II, and Zeno Clash good?

I liked Zeno Clash, but mainly for the atmosphere and original game world. It's pretty short, and some parts are quite frustrating, but at the current price it's worth it. There's a demo if you want to get a feel of the gameplay.

For what it's worth, I would remove Garry's Mod, since it's not actually a game. But tastes vary.

Thinking about getting Blade Kitten myself. I'll have to try out the demo first though just in case.

+1 for Blade Kitten. It's funny, relaxing, and a blast. Game got way too much hate.

Zeno Clash is easily worth the pittance being asked, it has one of the most weirdly inventive worlds populated with one of the more imaginative and bizarre cast of characters.

That weirdness turned me off from the demo. Unless the demo is just extremely bad and not representative of the actual game.

Ended up picking up the Darwinia/Multiwinia and Penny Arcade Episodes 1&2 packs alongside Capsized, I think I'm done for game buying for a while. Thanks Steam for taking about $30 of my money for these awesome deals. Now to save up for that gaming PC I've always wanted.

Zeno Clash is a frustrating game because the devs seemed to not understand what was good about the game and decided to add in a bunch of terrible stuff rather than just focus on the good stuff for the entire game. Most of the fist fights are really fun. The world is crazy in a good way. Why did they have to throw in a boring/nonsensical adventure/story and terrible shooting? And why do you have to fight everyone twice?

Depends on your tastes. It's the same game, fwiw, and it doesn't really play much differently even with a bigger screen. There's a new map or two (maybe more, it's been a while since i played the iOS version), but overall it's the same game.

So if you liked it then, I don't see why you wouldn't like it now.

Yeah, I was just saying because the short length of time is a turn of to some. There's a battle tower type thing but that's blahsay.

It's a unique setting, but the shooting gets kind of stupid at times, and the fistfighting is really what they should have centered on.

Yeah, The Longest Journey makes my PC crash every single time. I've tried just about everything across various message boards. Shame, I've heard so many good things. Just complete lock ups, and a few BSoD's even.

I think it has to do with it only running at 640x480. Running Windowed with everything disabled didn't work either.

Windows XP.

GeForce 9800GTX+
2GB RAM
Core2Duo 2.40 GHz

I can run virtually everything else to my liking but this seems to be an issue with the game itself.

Have 17.50 left in my wallet. If tomorrow is indeed a recap day, I'll be getting Eschalon Book 2, the Dreamfall pack, and some change for whatever else.. maybe add a few dollars for Bloodlines, or Whispered world or something

A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda reminds me a lot of the various Mega Man clones that came out at the height on the NES's popularity. Ya know, stuff like The Kiron Conquest and Darkwing Duck. It's not going to knock the king off of his throne, but if you dig the style, it's completely worth picking up. It's also very much an NES game in that you can beat it in one sitting. But the game has a lot of achievements and unlockables that give it a bit of replayability. Plus, there's a bonus item you can buy with tickets that basically gives you an extra in-game character (you can switch on the fly, but it's a new visual armor plus an exclusive weapon).

It's $4.99 for the duration of the sale. It runs nice at 1920x1080 60 frames per second and has excellent 360 controller integration.

I just ran through a game of it, thinking I'd just get the ticket achievement and call it a night, but I spent a few hours going through the whole game. And I'm pretty much thinking of going back to it tomorrow to try for some of the challenges or give it a hard mode run.

If you can scrounge up an extra $2 for it before tomorrow and love NES style games, it's a must buy.

I forgot to mention that it has Geomtry Wars style dual analog gun play, it adds a nice twist to the Mega Man formula.

Real Time Strategy war game with the historical setting of the conquest of Greece by Philip of Macedon. Gorgeous tactical map as seen above. Sound mechanics and at a 75% rebate total price of $5 usd is just a steal!

I got that during the Christmas sale, great game with good narration

A lot of these games seem interesting, but all of the demos I've tried have weird issues that would hurt the experience. Many of them have performance issues. Capsized, for instance, is limited to 53 fps. It will not go above or below for me. It's just 53. This, of course, means that the scrolling appears juddery.

Nyxquest is limited to 30 fps and Eternity's Child appears less than perfect in motion.

I know these are mostly indie titles, but it's just a shame.

These are any I didn't see in this OP that were in the list of suggestions from a few days ago, and I can speak for the ones in bold:

Everyday Shooter - $2.50
Jagged Alliance 2 / Disciples II pack - $6.24
Chaos Theory (not Splinter Cell) - $1.70
Rag Doll Kung Fu - $2.50
Quantz - $2.50
Osmos - $2.50
Freedom Force pack - $5.01
Darkstar One - $2.50
Children of the Nile - $2.50

Crash Time 2 - $4.99
Spectromancer - $2.49
Massive Assault: Phantom Renaissance - $4.99
Caster - $1.00
Arcadia - $1.70
Gratuitous Space Battles - $4.99
Saira - $2.50
Lucidity - $3.34
Scratches - $4.99
Future Wars - $2.50
Fortix 1 - $0.99

Came here to post this. Jagged Alliance is made by Sir-Tech and it's somewhere up there with X-COM as the best PC games of all time, and Disciples II is definitely worth playing.

GAMES YOU SHOULDN'T BUY - LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES
Do not buy the Path. Tales of Tales makes games that don't require a player. I try not to throw out the 'it's not even a game' card, but when it comes to Tales of Tales it's true. They're not games. They're not even good examples of interactive storytelling. If their games were films -- and they may as well be -- they'd be laughed at, because they are embarrassingly bad. Do not buy the Path.
Do not buy Jolly Rover. I guess I got it in one of the indie Christmas sale bundles? I played it to earn a summer camp ticket because I am stupid. By the third puzzle the lead character is mouthing off about how stupidly nonsensical the puzzle solutions are, which is a very, very bad sign. "Sometimes I don't understand why I do the things I do!" It's like this. Except it's from 2010 or something. I'm not nuts about the new Telltale adventure games but they are many times better than Jolly Rover.
Do not buy Dark Void Zero. It's a jetpack game that constantly strips you of your jetpack. It's very short and easy. It's got lousy level design and iffy collision detection. It's by Backbone or one of its offshoots. If you want to play 8-bit style games go play the real thing. This is a terrible impersonation that gets nearly everything wrong.
I played the Polynomial to get a ticket. I dunno what the hell was going on in that game. I don't think anyone who played it has a clue what was going on. I swear half the indie games on Steam are barely designed REZ-inspired neon musical borefests and I probably own all of them thanks to all these bundles.
Is Beat Hazard on this list? Because no one should buy Beat Hazard. The game is an eyesore. It's like they ripped some sprites from a mid 90's shareware shooter and laid them on top of a blindingly obnoxious MP3 visualizer. It's also another score attack game designed by people who don't seem to understand score attack games. If you wanna blow your eyes out buy Space Giraffe. If you wanna solid twin stick shooter buy Geometry Wars. Don't buy Beat Hazard.
Zombie Driver is a better concept than it is a game, and it's still not as good a concept as Simple 2000 Zombie Vs Ambulance.
Zombie Driver's fine. Otherwise, I agree. Blindingly obnoxious is the perfect way to describe Beat Hazard. If you can stand the visuals, go right ahead, but at least try the demo first.

List so far. And please make a suggestion or two.
Shatter
Toki Tori
Gary's Mod
Greed Corp

Ones I'll pick up either when I make room and they go down next big sale.
The Void
Nimbus
Altitude
