I’m thrilled to announce that, starting today, you can use LastPass on any device, anywhere, for free. No matter where you need your passwords – on your desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone – you can rely on LastPass to sync them for you, for free. Anything you save to LastPass on one device is instantly available to you on any other device you use.

If you’re already a LastPass Premium subscriber, you’ll still enjoy the additional value that Premium offers, including priority customer support, family password sharing with up to 5 others, and additional two-factor authentication options like YubiKey. You can also safeguard important documents with 1GB of encrypted file storage. We’re hard at work developing even more useful features for power users like you, so stay tuned! Thank you for investing in LastPass and helping us build a better product, for you.

Ha, wasn't this on Humble Bundle yesterday.

Question: Does anyone see any advantage to using this over my current setup of KeePass + Dropbox or should I just keep my current setup?

Yes. As a year subs. That bundle was (IMO) horrible enough for a lot of software that was redundant (multi-monitor taskbar being the only decent one due to Win10 still not having something like that IIRC), but a year sub for like $3.00 while a decent deal just was "lol no" territory.

With this, I might jump off the OSS solution KeePass.

It's probably just a bit easier and perhaps puts you more at ease knowing you control it rather than another company. I use KeePass myself but will give this a shot and see if it's a more seamless experience on the go.

If it works fine for you then there is no real reason to switch. The only real convenience LastPass has over most other alternatives is that your encrypted database is stored on LastPass's servers, rather than your Dropbox or any other cloud storage service.

Had Premium the last couple of years and it's been great. Kind of feel bad that I'll cancel my subscription now.

Thanks for the responses guys. I think I may give it a look, see if if anything sticks out.

Am I irrational for not being comfortable even trying it as they have been the only "compromised" password manager service?

I would feel more comfortable paying (1Password) if I felt more secure.

I haven't even used Lastpass on anything except my phone. Good news I guess if I ever need to venture out, but doesn't really do much for me. Nice for others I guess.

Fuck, just renewed last week!

Only twelv dolla yo yawl liv.

Thanks OP being a scroungy git paid off in the end.

Always use Keepass for THE MOST essential stuff. LP is great for everything else. As a rule of thumb never put financial details into cloud. 2FAC everything and if it doesn't offer it don't use it.

K so how do they plan on making money now?

Are we getting ads or what?

The plan comparison at the bottom of the page has the premium version as "Ad free", so yeah, looks that way

That and the family password sharing means I'll stick with the premium version

Win 10 does offer multi-monitor taskbar. With the anniversary update, it's even possible to display the clock on both. The systray is the only thing still missing in action.

It is, but KeePass is better than all of them.

I'm actually a former keepass user who switched to lastpass. My main problem was synching passwords between my computer and my phone. It became too much of a hassle. I know there are keepass plugins to automatically synch passwords through Google Drive, and other places, but I'm sure lastpass's synching is much more secure than those plugins.

Nobody ever actually got passwords off those breaches because they don't have your unencrypted passwords at any time, though

Great. Now please update the site so it's less unwieldy when using a mobile browser.

Sweet. I use Lastpass extensively on my desktop and notebook, but on my phone i've been sticking with iCloud keychain for passwords. It will be nice to have the LP mobile app as an option too as it's more robust feature-wise.

Well yeah, in terms of UI KeePass doesn't compare to the two big managers, but it is an overall safer method of storing passwords.

A free password manager software? How about no?

He doesn't know about Keepass.
