Late to the party: Batman: The Long Halloween -- one of the best Batman stories EVAR!

Finally picked this up the other day and just read it start-to-finish. Probably one of the best Batman stories I've ever read (easily ranking up there with Year One and No Man's Land). From the underlying "Out with the old..." undertones -- perfectly encapsulated in that "trick or treat" office scene, to the genuine mystery of who the hell Holiday is, everything about this story bleeds quality. Hot stuff.

Thank you. I just mentioned this in the Hush thread. Anyway, you should've read Year One right before it and TLH's sequel, Dark Victory. Get to it!

I know, it was way too similar, but it had a lot of cool moments. I don't know of any other good loeb work aside from the ones mentioned and Spider-Man: Blue.

I got The Long Halloween and Dark Victory a long ass time ago, and I haven't read either. Well, I started to read TLH and then I stopped and forgot to finish it. Just thought I'd share.

Did they ever put Year Two into TPB form? I'd like to finally get around to reading that.

I breezed through this when I first bought it a year or so ago. I don't think I gave it the time it deserved. I'll check it out again, probably when I'm done with the ne Teen Titans (which is really good for a fan of the old TT).

Don't even bother with Year Two. Really.

Could it really be any worse than Year Three? Well, that wasn't too bad, I suppose. I don't think there's much Batman that I don't like. I'm referring to anything pre-94 anyway.

Hmm. I am a fan of the "old" New TT. This sounds like it could be fun.

Now, why doesn't someone resurrect Batman and The Outsiders? There's something you don't see everyday.

Have you started Family Lost yet, or still on A Kid's Game? Both are pretty fun to read.

I'm in the middle of a Kids game, and I'm really enjoying it. I cheered when I saw Deathstroke was back, damn he looks cool in this book. They gave him a really good intro too I thought, with everythinge he did. One of my favorite villains.

I miss some of the old cast members of the original TT, I didn't realize it at the time, but that was one of my favorite books. Thew cast seems alright so far, I like Robin's character and my old favorites of Gabe Logan, Stone, and Starfire are there, so cool. I miss Tera though, she was an interesting character. I'll probably rebuy the old books now that I'm getting into the new TT. I really like what they are doing with the series from what I read so far. Art fits it well, some of the pages were really badass looking (best looking DS I've seen I think)... although I remeber liking the way Starfire was drawn in the old one.

Error, you should check it out. Its really good so far.

Long Halloween is ace. I really liked Sale's art direction on Yellow. Superman for all Seasons was decent.

Long Halloween is probably their best team up, though. Sorry, but you started at the top.

Hmmm...guess I'll be looking to buy Year One and Long Halloween today, along with one or two Ultimate SpiderMan volumes. Might get Dark Victory as well. All depends on what the sale prices are, and if I've got enough cabbage for them.

Because of my job I've just been getting into comics a lot lately.

Namely;

Dark Horse's Goon - Hilarious and intelligent comic where some heavy criminal grunt dude runs around twatting zombies - who happen to be gangsters - while his sidekick knifes them in the eye. Doesn't take itself seriously at all. I do *so* love the 'off' strips as well - particularly the 'how to keep an idiot' instructional pamphlet. Great stuff.

Vertigo's Hellblazer - Fucking great. I've read a few of the novels now. I like how JC is this complete and utter jaded, miserable bastard and the mystical element of his job is often very logical - like how he tricks three demons into buying his soul, exposing some kind of loop hole that fucks them over and not him. I've also seen clips of the Constantine film and while NDAd up to my eyeballs, I can say the scene we saw was very impressive (I wish I could say more, but my real name is embeded in my user name and I'll get my balls handed to me if/when discovered).

Vertigo's Sandman - Very late to the party I know. I read the novel where he loses all his items and has to go around getting them all while bumping into the likes of Batman and John Constantine. Good stuff, though I prefer the above too.

I'm almost done with a family lost, and you and anihawk were right on the money. Its awesome. I forgot so much of the old TT storyline, and this is making me remember all of it. I agree with anihawk when he said it got better from the middle of AKG, this is terrific stuff. It brings back memories, and stays fresh at the same time.

I'm going to have to buy the new issues or boooks that come out after this. I think I have an idea to the surprise your referring to, and I cannot wait to see her back. I love this series...damn, I feel like a kid again reading it.

Thanks to this thread, I picked up The Long Halloween on Friday morning. And you weren't kidding. I've been away from everything Batman for so many years, but The Long Halloween is surely bringing me back to the series. I just finished it a few minutes ago and I already want to read it again. :lol

I'm going to pick up Hush and No Man's Land this week for sure, and thanks for making this thread.

I got Year One and Dark Victory, alone with Ultimate Spider-Man Volume #8. Also got Spider-Man 2 Deluxe DVD, and found a used Mask of the Phantasm soundtrack. Probably saved 35-40% all told. Boxing week sales simply rule.

Kinda leaves me in a pickle though...I couldn't find Long Halloween, and I'm wondering if I should read it before Dark Victory, or if it's simply redundant.

I think you should read The Long Holloween before Dark Victory.

[edit]I see amazon.com has Holloween, but not amazon.ca :\

There are some good comic stores in town...I'm sure I could find it if I look hard enough. Could even settle for a regular paperback, something I did for "Death and Return of Superman and "Knightfall" (well the latter was a used hard cover, but same diff).

Superman For All Seasons is also pretty good, though a bit light.

... Are you recycling avatars? Maybe the better question is why am I noticing...
