The Wall is good, not Floyd's best though.

Wish You Were Here, Animals and Dark Side of the Moon are godly pieces of art.

All you touch and all you see,
is all your life will ever be.

Now listen to Dark Side of the Moon.

After that, watch the Wizard of Oz while listening to Dark Side of the Moon.
Press play on the CD player when the MGM lion roars for the third time.

Don't be discouraged by people acting like you're out of the loop just because you're only recently discovering Floyd. The Wall is a great album, and I would totally recommend checking out Dark Side of the Moon next. It's great, it's beautiful, it's perfect.

I'm still not huge on Zeppelin (Own Houses of the Holy on CD and Zeppelin IV on tape) and have yet to begin my "discover the Beatles" stage. I'm 23 years old. Take your time. There is so much music out there that it would be impossible to hear it all. Don't feel like you need to rush, otherwise you won't appreciate what you're listening to at the time as much. My Pink Floyd stage lasted 2-3 years.

Hehe, I was one of those that originally made a smart-ass remark....I was only trying to make light of the situation. You're 100% correct, we can't expect younger people to have heard all the music us old farts grew up with. There's a ton of stuff I haven't listened to as well that would make people say "where the hell have you been?" Basically you find something that can move you and go with it. Have fun with it.

GAAAAAAAAY
My Floyd phase started around a year ago, when I got DSOTM for Christmas. I loved it so much, I was thinking about making a New Year's resolution to listen to it once every single day :) Thank goodness I didn't, in retrospect.

IMO, some of Pink Floyd's best work came out before Dark Side of the Moon, and their rise to fame. Atom Heart Mother and Meddle each have two of the Floyd's best songs (Atom Heart Mother and Echoes, respectively), both of them over 20 minutes long. And if you really like their earlier stuff, buy the Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii DVD as fast as you can. It's beyond incredible :)

When you think about it, though, The Wall is very different from all their earlier stuff, so you may not even like any of their other albums. Hopefully you do.

After that, pick up Wish You Were Here, and listen to their true magnum opus Shine On, You Crazy Diamond . Beyond that, Mettle, Piper at the Gates of Dawn, or Division Bell is next. Godspeed, dude. :)

And 2001: Echoes. Play echoes during the last act of 2001. Same length down to the second.
