Late to the party - XBox has TWO RPGs...

Scary Euro Man
After the gut-wrenching disappointment that was Sudeki (a Legend of Dragoon for the 128-bit age...) I held off on picking up Fable. But at £20 in the sales it seemed too cheap to miss out, so I got a copy and it's pretty damn good. Targetting is a little screwy, but on the whole it takes the whole Morrowind-style PC RPG thang and bundles it into something that's a hell of a lot more directed and accessible. I kind of got the impression that people were mostly disappointed with it when it was released, but going in with low expectations I've been really quite pleasantly surprised.

Anyone in the UK should check out Gamestation for the £20 price on this one.

Fable rocks. Yes the loading definetly sucks, but the game has really good fighting mechanics and some real awsome spells (Beserk rulz all). The storyline is fun, and being evil or good really does feel different.

I just wish you could get more than one face, like you got to choose it or randomly pick one when you start. You just can't make the character that's on the boxart.

Fable is quite good. I usually don't like W-RPGs but since Fable is more of an action game I enjoy it.

I just beat that bandit leader. Very good boss fight :)

Most people seemed to be expecting Jesus on a disc for one reason or another. What they got instead was just a nicely polished good game. So they flipped out.

Thats cause Peter Molyneux hyped the game like Jesus was coming. Everyone was expecting a game that would live up to the hype...of course it didn't, and what we got was exactly what you said, a nice, polished game.

Well, no. Most people were expecting what they were shown. Most people were expecting a game in development for so long to be longer than 15 or so hours. Most people were expecting the tagline "For every choice, a consequence" to actually mean something. Most people were expecting an RPG.

Saying Fable is polished is like saying Xbox is a big hit in Japan

There were texture loading problems and that whole thing with Lady Gray or whatever the hell her name was. Fable was overrated shiite.

Where were you when the hype train for this game was going full speed?

I found myself quickly getting bored of Fable after the first few hours of dicking around, and there were too many other quality RPGs this year to really recommend it. Worth a rental if you're looking for something different.

No, most people were waiting for an excuse to flip out. There has probably never been quite as large a massed legion with an agenda to fulfill by hating on a game.

Anyone who actually followed the game's development knew pretty well what they were getting by the time it came out, and had their full scripts of put-downs, potshots and Molyneux jokes fully prepared and ready to go.

I've heard very mixed reviews about Fable, so I've held off on picking it up. After I get some of the must-have games I've been swooning over, and maybe if I see it pre-played or just cheap, I'll check it out. Right now it's being placed on the backburner in favour of others.

Hey, Legend of Dragoon doesn't deserve that kind of abuse. Even haters have to admit that the game was competently executed, even if they're not enamored of the characters or plot. LoD also featured decently-proportioned character models (though they could've been higher poly, admittedly) and an ending that provides some semblance of closure. I can't say any of those things for Sudeki. :p (Maybe I'd call it the Lagoon or Secret of the Stars of the 128-bit age, if I happened to be feeling really generous. :p )

As far as Fable goes, it's quite a fun game when taken on its own merits. I think most people who've trashed it have done so because it failed to live up to their hype-induced expectations. I would love to have seen peoples' reactions to Fable if it hadn't been touted as the greatest RPG ever made in the years leading up to its release.

I didn't think either game was bad - just very mediocre and featuring poor character design and story.

I'd have compared it to Panzer Dragoon Saga instead, but most people are under the mistaken impression that it's a good RPG. :P

I liked both Sudeki and Fable, both should have been a lot longer though! Still, I'd really love a sequel to both these great games.

The only real 'hype' is created in your head. If you have bizarre expectations of a game, only you can ruin it really. Blaming Molyneux for what he does best, (well he leanred his lesson I guess with the apolagy letter and all) is silly, it's you (in general) who believed him, now who's to blame! :)

Need sequels!

Way to blame the victim, there.

Hehe, well I wouldn't call what Peter Molyneux does in the media like rape... :) He talked, you listened. Voluntarily, (I hope for you! :) ) so I mean it's not like you don't have a choice here. You can believe him on his word, or you can hear what he says, (or not hear it) but draw your own conclusions when the product is in your hand.

If you believe this man on his word and therefore expect a product to be a certain way according to him. Then you play it and see it's not turned out that way, it seems you made an error in judgement believing this man (voluntarily still). But yeah, if you where forcefully made to believe a product is a certain way, (by means of nano-remote controlled behavior chips inplanted in the brain of course) then it could very well not be your fault...

It's like the first time you burn yourself on the stove!

But ya, for putting Peter Molyneux and rape in one scentance, I applaud thee! :lol

you see, there lies the problem. The man promised dozens upon dozens of features that simply never made it...while I was dissapointed to see them missing, I knew that this guy was full of shit from the start so the game fell within my expectations

rabid xbox fans: laying the blame on the gamers that believed Peter M's words to be true is one of the dumbest things you can do and is grasping at straws...what you should be doing is informing them that this sort of dissappointment with his titles is to be expected, and by doing so you prepare them for his next game

In my eyes, Fable was a pretty good Action RPG...though the entire aspect of your character becomming 60 after 8 hours of play pissed me off :b
