Latest UK Charts - GOOOOOOOOOOAL!!

Yes, that right, PES5 tops the charts this week even beating Fifa 06 as the fastest selling football game ever!! It's also the 5th fastest selling game in the UK too. Not bad going! Football Manager 2006 comes in second place, selling twice as many copies as last years edition. It becomes the second fastest selling PC game ever too.

Warriors is at 4 and Pokemon is back once again at 5. FEAR enters at 6 after its Tuesday release. The new Budokai makes 9 and Quake 4 limps in at 10. The extremely average LA Rush makes the top 20 as does SSX on Tour.

What's bigger in europe, Fifa or PES?

Overall sales it's FIFA, but PES sells roughly about 2/3 of the amount of FIFA on PS2 (from old figures that I can vaguely recall from the times of PES3 and 4). Round about the time of PES2 or 3 it jumped from being a fairly minority game to challenging FIFA in a big way in terms of sales.

Why? That list actually looks pretty decent to me.

Pshh.. football games for the top 3 is pretty bad. And so many games that deserve to do well do really poorly here too.

As for FIFA vs. PES, FIFA probably sells more but PES is recognised as the superior of the two as far as I know.

The only bad game in the top 10 is Fifa, and thats not even that bad.

Sega also has a massive 5 games in the top 40. Their best in ages! :)

They've really done quite well in Europe in getting a good games library built up.

Goooooooooooooo SEGA!

I don't think FIFA sells more than PES anymore

FIFA sells more than PES because there are 7 versions of Fifa 06 (PS2, Xbox, GC, PC, PSP, DS, GBA) and only 3 of PES 5 (PS2, Xbox, PC). Individually, however, I'm pretty sure PES sells more. At least here in Spain.

Also, when Konami started doing football games they did so without any license at all. It's only been with the ps2 that they've started getting licenses, and in fact every year they seem to be increasing the number of teams/players that they license. The license is EAs key competitive advantage however Konami are building there brand and with each game selling more they are investing in licenses further thus making it harder and harder for EA to keep ahead.

Going into the next gen Pro Evo will be THE standard for football games. To some extent you have to start again with new platforms and so I am confident that if they get it out fairly early the next gen Pro Evo will absolutely wipe the floor with Fifa in terms of sales.

In the UK I remember reading that PES on the PS2 has been very close to FIFA on the PS2 in the last few editions. The margin's alot smaller than it has been.

Obviously FIFA having the huge endorsements with players and official licenses for each league has always helped. Though Konami are getting the idea; look at PES2 and its generic cover and now look at PES5 with Henry and Terry on the front. They're also slowly getting the bigger clubs licensed and some of the leagues (Spain, Holland, Germany, France and Italy). All they need if English Premier League and they'd be set.
