laughable PS3 article in PSM

Game magazines should really make it a requirement for their journalists to have at Least passed grade school math before letting them write "fancy" articles like this... -_-

God I hate this period....when a system launch is about 1-1.5 years away, and vague details are all we have. But no matter how vague they are, they're enough to generate tons of speculation. I can't wait until we get some final concrete specs...bullshit speculation will still be rampant, but at least we'll know exactly what the hell powers the machine. Besides, given PS2's legacy, i'm more concerned with image quality and HD(video and audio) support rather than the usual "pissing-contest" brand of benchmarks.

Ehhhh
so
16 trillion = 160 million = 1600 thousand
1mhz = 1 million cycles/second
1000mhz = 1 Ghz
so its 16 Ghz?
or 160 Ghz
And he claims a 1000x improvement so, 233 times 1000 = 233,000 mhz or 233 GHZ
????
Oh fuck it

Dam, my p4 is only 3 ghz

I am seriously lagging behind in technology :(

Its a vague statement. The clock speed of the processor alone does not dictate over all performance.

"Sony confirm PS3 will be 10 times more powerful than PS2 and cause online networks to 'explode'. What's going on?"

:lol :lol :lol

I'll fix this for you and let you go from there.

16 trillion = 16,000 billion = 16,000,000 million = 16,000,000,000 thousand

...and PS2 is over 50 times more powerful then Dreamcast...GBA is more powerful then the Saturn...Saturn can do near-perfect Model 2 conversions...N64 is capable of ray tracing...

Really, what's new?

And to think, my brother has a subsciption to this. I don't believe their 100% Independent crap, either, but I could be wrong.

-This post brought to you by Skimmy McSkimmermann, who expects that beta PS3 to make "toast" of the competition.

I skipped a billion, wow, thats ........ I have no brain

so that comes out to 160,000,000 GHz

Yay!!! PS3 worldwide sales +1, hopefully it won't blowup my network.

The whole article is refering to the new cell processors so I would assume thats what he meant, but then agian it oboviously isn't a feasible number.

This is what is referred to as a "negative knowledge" article. You start off knowing and understanding far more than the "writer" but end up stupider for simply having read it.

I haven't felt so embarrassed about the state of journalism in this business since the Spike VG Awards.

Next Generation, or something very similar, needs to be revived right fucking now. And no, EDGE doesn't count as it's not published here.

I don't know who could take PSM 2 (UK) serious, they probably were trying to be funny intentionally -- they're not a mag to be taken serious down here :P it's full of constant humour.

In real words, that means PS3 will be able to connect via broadband to other consoles across the world - or even other Cell chip equipped electrical devices- and create one pulsing hive-mind of processing power

Oh, no! Skynet, the world is doomed :lol

This is sad.

I have a rant against the journalistic integrity of a whole new generation of writers, both on-line and in print. But I'll spare you guys.

Needless to say, it needs a PA strip of its own. Akin to their attacks on Daily Radar.

Funny article!

But finally one statement was true:
In real words, that means PS3 will be able to connect via broadband to other consoles across the world - or even other Cell chip equipped electrical devices- and create one pulsing hive-mind of processing power
That's fact!

I assume it will do so by commandeering your cell-based toaster?

Gaming journalism in general is so amateur when compared to other forums of critical journalism. Websites, magazines and even newspapers produce below average reviews and news reports on games.
