Law & Order To Air An Episode Inspired By #Gamergate February 11

I'm not sure that presenting gamergate as an organized, sophisticated terrorist cell is very useful at helping people understand gamergate.

Also, what would taking gamergate more seriously entail?

A lot of things could have been handled better, but I think it's more effective to end it that way than not though.

But "leveled up" was used by the victim. It's really a nonsensical scene.

Maybe you need to level up your vocabulary!

I should use that more. 'This game isn't bad, you just need to level up! This console is winning, maybe yours should level up! Hey guys, I'm currently levelling myself up!'

So I just watched this with my wife. There was a point in the show where my wife says, "I hope our son never gets into gaming that much." I tried to explain what GG was and why our son would never be like those guys. She then said "Shhhh, I'm trying to watch this."

At the bare minimum it started a dialog that might be continued later. Mine also worried after watching "We need to talk about Kevin" and the PBS.Frontline Adam Lanza stuff.

This is literally saying to Gamergate "Yo, if you keep escalating, you will get exactly what you want". How the fuck was anyone at NBC okay with being this goddamn irresponsible? How the fuck is this helping anyone? Like, fuck the ridiculous lines about Kotaku, whatever, but this is fucking reprehensible.

It's...not meant to help anyone. It's a drama. It's point is to be dramatic and get an emotional response out of you.

Granted, Dick Wolf is known for writing stories that either test current views or mirror his own, but it's a gaming episode. He's not particularly good at gaming episodes.

The intent, and the amount of stuff they showed on the subject show it, was to educate people on the kind of harassment women in gaming and online face on a daily basis. Simple stuff. But then, it basically says that women should just give up. It's both incredibly fucked up and irresponsible in the way it encourages the worst of gamergate into further and further escalation.

No, the point was to establish contrived motives to move the story along. This is the standard Dick Wolf pattern we've been seeing for 10 years. Say just enough to make it seem like you know what you're talking about, then move on to the yelling at people stage.

Thesad thing about this episode is that it could have been a lot more subtle and less over the top. But nooooooooo. They couldn't so that. It had to be so black and white.

Lmao the part in the theatre where the presentation gets interrupted by flashing lights and a scary voice saying "BITCHES WILL DIE" lmao

eh, really tired of this whole thing. Still boils down to a sh***y person did a sh***y thing, got publicly blasted for it, causing discovery of p**n causing more sh***y people to do sh***y things to that sh***y person.

They should have had Aiden Pierce look alike with the ctOS phone app. It would have been perfect Heck, this would have been perfect to have a WatchDogs/Gamergate crossover.

You know what would help make it go away? If idiots like you stopped repeating EASILY DISPROVEN LIES.

I have nothing for this just a big, disappointed sigh.

Like, *Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*.

If you're going to post so much shit you might as well not censor the word.

I only just realised what "p**n" was too. I thought you were saying pain but you mean porn (oh look, you can say that too) and discovery is stretching the truth beyond recognition. It wasn't discovered, it was leaked by a vindictive ex boyfriend and all-round shitty person.

I was hoping for people to pile on NBC/Law and Order in this thread... but instead, it has turned into Generic Gamergate Bickering Thread #12093404. Lovely.

Focus on the true enemy here, guys/gals. ICE T'S ACTING.

We were actually doing well for about 17 pages before the drive-by shitposting began. I think that has to be a record

Or lack thereof.
Watching some of the newer episodes back to back with some of the older ones reveals something that rather surprised me. Ice T really isn't any better of an actor now than he was 10 years ago.

Then, well, on Dick Wolf's part: Mission Accomplished.

This is the intent. Anyone who is not sitting in front of the TV, drooling and hitting the side of their hand against their chest being "entertained" by the current tripe on modern American television is not contributing to the ratings and must be stigmatized. Be it the Reefer Madness of the previous generation, or the SVU gamer episodes. The big TV giants are not inclined to have a kind word for a medium popular with those who have rejected what TV has become after the golden era of 90s TV.

Believe me, they would never do an episode like this on TV viewers. Wonder what they'll cook up once VR gets big.

This is a ridiculous sentiment. If there was a TVgate Law & Order would do an episode so fast our heads would spin.

It's not some deep vendetta against gamers that makes episodes like this possible, it's the fact that a large number of very visible gamers are terrible people.

? TV viewers throw around death threats all the time for pretty shitty things. News reporters talk about death threats against them pretty consistently.

LOl man that episode was bad. The fps camera shot as well. It's like every stereotype was exaggerated ten fold.

The FPS camera shot was hilarious. If every episode is like this, this would be the best comedy on TV.

Did you just censor the word porn?

For people hating the ending and saying it's "not helping anyone"... have you ever watched SVU? That ending is pretty on course for how dark the show gets. Some of the episodes have made me physically ill.

They've had at least two episodes with reporters getting death threats. As for viewers, the Glen Beck(?) episode sure didn't cast them in a good light.

Wasn't sure if they had or hadn't, I was just responding to the guy who was acting like there aren't TV viewers around that are just as shitty as Gamergate.

Wha-what? Ice T is literally the best thing about that show. And he's not even bad in it!

Quite honestly the most cringe worthy thing I've ever seen in my life. What kind of writing is that? Had more one liners than Batman & Robin.

I'd say it's now the worst television episode tackling gaming that I've ever seen, even worse than when NBC's Life had brought Prince of Persia and gaming into one of their episodes.

I wonder what both pro and anti-GG'ers thought about this episode.
