Leaving school and moving out on my own finally

For the past year I've had this growing boredom with school and wher I was headed in life. I knew I wanted to have a degree and make more than minimum wage so there is absolutely no question in my mind that I will be going back to finish. I have about a year to a year and a half left depending on course load/summer semesters for a degree in Information Systems.

My parents were against it at first but I think they understood that I was at the end of my rope. I need to be living on my own and take a break from homework, studying and irregular schedules. I can go to work and come home knowing I dont have to study for the next day or worry about my grade. So I'm moving to the land of Purdue, home of the Boilermakers. I should be able to get a job at FedEx where my brother works. Hopefully I can transfer next spring and finish out at Purdue.

Anyone else take time off? Where did you find work? Pay expenses? Did you go back? :lol

i was out of school for ~ two years. worst two years of my life. for some people the non-academic world might be fulfilling but for me it was pretty terrible. in the end it's your choice though. good luck.

At this point I know it may suck completely but its an experience I'm willing to risk. It'll make me work that much harder when I do go back and theres no way I'd be out two years. :(

A lot of people "take a break" from school and never go back.
You start making money, start buying things, get in a groove...and you just can't go back to studying with no income.
Dangerous.

But, best of luck to you - have fun :)

boo-frikin-hoo... what a tough "boring" life being a student ;)

what are you going to do a fedex? lift heavy boxes with a bunch of 30-40 year old men and kids on college break? i could see if you had a nice job lined up to focus, pay off some debt and prioritize but from your post it seems you need to stop fooling yourself.

bare minimum take some summer/night classes at accredited colleges

ymmv.

I never said it was hard. I'm just tired of it. Its not what I want to be doing right now. Having a job would let me save up money and it would help delay time so I can recieve additional financial aid when i turn 24. I've been going to school straight for 3 years now (Fall/Spring/Summer) and working part time jobs. Its time to change some things and come back. I'm not doing myself any favors right now half assing class. And working with FedEx I get decent benefits and they pay a certain amount towards tuition.
