LEGENDARY WINGS for NES?

One of the better shooters for its time. Or maybe it's just nostalgia talking. But I doubt you're investing $150 on it so it couldn't hurt to try.

it rocks. and really any capcom nes game is a safe buy. i'm trying unsuccessfully to think of exceptions.

Back in its day it was an awesome shooter. I had it way back then. Its not as good as say Strikers 1945 III or anything, but it's worth getting if you're into retro games and can find it cheap.

If you have a Genesis, try looking for Forgotten Realms (or is it Forgotten Worlds??). Another good one for its day. That one let you buy new guns at a shop with money you'd earn from fallen enemies.

What an awesome game Legendary Wings was. :) Don't hesitate to buy it.

Another game in a similar vein that was quite good (not as good as LW, but still good) was Phelios for Genesis. I'll never forget being awed by the fully voiced intermissions between stages (though it was somewhat grainy and garbled), which for that time was unheard of. Cool graphics, sound, theme, and bosses.

One of my favorite games of all time is a Capcom NES game, that being Little Nemo.

I remember getting Legendary Wings for xmas back in the day - though I couldnt get past the 2nd level. Getting sucked up by those giant heads and thrown into a side scrolling level was pretty cool. They even made your character walk when he touched the ground (on the side scrolling levels) - dont know why, but I always thought that was awesome.

Fun game. I love how it goes top down to side on view. And the secret levels felt really special. Like when you found the secret levels in Gradius 3 - almost like you were part of some small elite bad of game ninjas that could find it.

This is true. Name a Capcom NES game, any of them, and there's at least one small thing that makes it very enjoyable.

Forgotten Worlds. yeah. U.S. Genesis launch game, very good. the arcade version is much better though, try it in MAME.,

True. Capcom, moreso than any other developer including Nintendo themselves, could almost do no wrong when creating good NES games.

Yo Noid

The only game on that list I didn't much care for was Street Fighter 2010.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I distinctly remember spending $60.00 on that game and beating it in 2 hours! And this was the same company that made Megaman!

I was very disappointed ...

How so? Couple sprites missing here and there... Missing level... That's about it.

Can someone explain the glowing armor in the background on the last boss? It appears sometimes and I could never figure out the signifigance.

Come on, there are some clunkers in that list. Trojan? Disney Adventure? Yo Noid? I didn't even like Legendary Wings that much...

Nah. I enjoyed Disney's Adventure in the Magic Kingdom. Sure, it was dirt easy, but what is there is good. The Space Mountain level, the Train level, the bumper cars. Good kids game.

As for Yo! Noid, it hasn't aged too well, but I enjoyed it when I was younger.

Trojan is all right, for a Kung-fu clone.

Hey Kobun, this has nothing to do with the thread whatsoever but, just wondering, if as your tag says, you're an important new mouth on Yamauchi's crotch, why did you buy a PSP? :lol

Because I need to do something with my hands, duh.

I hated it at first, but found myself really getting into the combat later on. And the music was sweet.

LOTS of missing/reduced sprites. much lower color. missing backgrounds. 2 missing levels. bosses were simplifed. trust me the Megadrive/Genesis version was heavily scaled back from the arcade, it had to be. CPS1 is several times more powerful then Genesis (256 sprites vs 80 sprites. 3 bg layers vs 2 bg layers 2048 or 4096 colors on screen vs 64 colors on screen.) theres no debating this. the size of the roms tells the story of the reduced graphics (it always does) 4 megabit Sega cart vs at least a 16 megabit arcade rom.

that said, Genesis version is still almost as fun as the arcade. from a gameplay stantpoint, they're close.

With that attitude any home version of an arcade game pales in comparison to the original, back in the 8 and 16 bit days. I don't think any arcade game used 4096 colors back than. Thier no doubt that the CPS1 arcade systems could put alot colors on screen but, I don't think capcom ever used an extreme amount of color as you describe.

It just like the PC Engine or TurboGrafx-16 could put 512 colors on screen but I cannot think of one game that did. I think the PC Engine Street Fighter 2 Champion might have used used 250 colors, than again I could be wrong about that.

Also the lengendary Wings on the NES was not that close to the arcade, but people had fun playing it. For it's time Forgotten Worlds was a good game, especially considering it was only 4 megs.

Forgotten Worlds like most CPS1 games probably used 256-512 colors on screen. thats still 4-8x more than Genesis

For it's time Forgotten Worlds was a good game, especially considering it was only 4 megs.

agreed. but that doesnt mean it was close to the arcade graphically.

i've always liked trojan. that was actually one the first games i ever finished.

The last stage in Trojan was insane. Enemy attacks came from everywhere. Sky, left, right etc. Also the last boss Achilles or something was a real bitch. He waved your sword at you like 2 times and you were dead.

The VS play in that game was allright as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Legendary Wings the title that never got released in Japan, making it valuable to Japanese collectors?

Fantastic game. That one was my favorite Genesis shooter, actually. I never got into Gaiarus for some strange reason.

I really liked Street Fighter 2010 back in the day too. It was a poor man's Ninja Gaiden / Kabuki Quantam Fighter, but it was still pretty cool. I remember feeling pretty darned satisfied when I beat it (was it kind of hard or was I just lame?).

I remember really loving that pressing down + attack made you do this kick move at the time. It probably plays like crap now, but it was not a horrible game by any means and it gets unfairly maligned due to its association with with the proper SF games.
