I just realised that this book is in the middle of a Kickstarter campaign. It details the history of Treasure and the development of their Megadrive/Genesis games. A free sample is provided here, and the writing is good enough that I decided to back the project. The author runs a great Sega website called MD Shock and seems perfectly legit. The story recounted in that sample chapter is really interesting. It tells of Treasure member Hideyuki Suganami and how he got his break in the industry. It turns out that he was an illustrator who initially applied for a graphic design position at Konami. He was undeterred by their rejection and applied a second time, this time for a programmer position. Despite having zero programming skills and experience, Konami admired his persistence enough to give him a chance, and he was quickly put to work on big games such as the SNES Contra game. I'm not sure something like that could happen in today's industry.

Any, here is a link to the Kickstarter campaign for anyone who's interested:

We're at ~60% funded with 150+ backers and just two weeks left! Consider supporting this if you're at all interested.

Here's the kind of unique content you can expect: A never-before-scanned or translated sketch of Treasure's development studio in 1994, as drawn by a staff member:

It's now been fully funded with 3 days to spare!

Don't forget to back if you want a nice present for (next) Christmas.

Gonna see if I can still put in for a copy sometime this month. Didn't know this was even a thing until today; Treasure are some legendary devs from the 16-bit/32-bit eras. Easily one of the best and they did things that'd even put 1P devs to shame sometimes.

Ppl actually put money into this shit? Printed wikipedia? Fuck I'm gonna go kickstart a book about my time working for the Chiodo brothers with sketches of their claymation and puppet clowns thrown in.

Treasure was great. Konami as well back then but I think the folks who departed to form Treasure were the heart of Konami and when they left it became just Kojima Productions and then just died...

very talented generation...

This is great, Treasure's a good pick for a dev to cover during this era. They had some of the best output that entire generation. Cool to see they hit their goal already too.
