Looks great, wonder how hard it will be to play with the analog nub though...but then, Lemmings worked for SNES and Genesis so I guess it won't be that bad.
 
This game will be the reason I get carpal tunnel syndrome at 20 years old. Fucking nub.

If only the DMA people didn't hate Nintendo... does anyone know the story about how the shit originally hit the fan between the two? After the last lemmings game was released on a nintendo platform, i imagine?
 
wish it was touchscreen. but looks hot. this will motivate me to get a psp more than anything on it yet.
 
Let's not get sidetracked by the usual petty bickering and ankle-biting partisanship - 2d this pretty deserves to be raised as a common cause for all true gamers to endorse and help preserve a future for - Buy a PSP and two copies of Lemmings! :)
 
That may be the hottest thing I've ever seen. I recognize most of the levels, except for the one in the second-last screenshot... but even though I've played it many times before, this is still a must-buy for me. There is absolutely no way I could ever be able to resist a Lemmings game that looks that good.

Edit: there is definitely a new set of levels. Sweet!!!
 
These new screens are gorgeous! The artists are really strutting their stuff, with rich details and a high color palette.

I also notice they altered the interface on the bottom of the screen. I think it looks a lot better in appearance now than what they showed a few months ago when they first revealed the game, which was more like the interface from the original game transplanted onto the PSP. See this old screen from IGN for an example:

Glad to see Team 17 is handling this, should be quality. They just better not sell this for full price.

Also, shocked to only see one "HURR this should be on DS!" post.
 
This game just begs to be played on the DS. Still, this looks pretty good for the PSP.

It is very weird that it's even being talked about at all. Once again, it says a lot.
 
I agree this game looks awesome but in this case it would be better served on DS. This game is just asking for touchscreen control as lemmings is a game of fast reflexes. Is this game coming to the DS as well as PSP?
 
I'll definitely be getting this.

Too bad it isn't on DS though. Now this is a game that would be -great- on that.

I heard Sony owns Lemmings though, is that true?

The DS's dinky screens would kill this game. You would have to scroll so much it would be unplayable, just like every other portable version of Lemmings up to now. It's all about having a good horizontal view.
 
Holy shit, so now scrolling is a negative? That's like saying Mario games suck becuase the whole level is not on one screen. Besides this game is going to require horizontal scrolling so I don't see it being a problem. I see what you are saying but it does't matter. Lemmings levels have both big vertical and horizontal designs. This game would play like butter on the DS though... touch screen > nub for this game.

But if Sony owns the Lemmings license then it really doesn't matter what I think.

Scrolling in Lemmings is completely different from scrolling in a platformer, because in the latter, you can always see the heart of the action. The camera is centered on Mario 100% of the time and tracks his movement faithfully. That's not the case with Lemmings, with its intense micromanagement across wide spans of real estate. The more of the field you can see at a time, the more of the several simultaneous events you can see, and the less likely you are to make a frustrating and unnecessary mistake.
 
I agree with what you are saying but it still is outweighed by the benefit of touch screen control.

But it's useless arguing about that since this game has no possible way of coming to the DS anyway.

Do I even need to explain this? $40 for a 15 year old game? Even if it includes The Tribes (and it should) it shouldn't be more than $30.

It's a remake of the first Lemming game? If not, it didn't came out 15 years ago.

Also, I have no idea why gamespot's images are so huge.

Import "Star Solider". Pretty good shooter. Graphics are not up there with the best of them, but it's a pretty fun game. Probably the best handheld shooter game, actually, if you don't count emulated games such as Pulstar.

"During the filming of the 1958 Disney nature documentary White Wilderness, the film crew induced lemmings into jumping off a cliff and into the sea in order to document their supposedly suicidal behavior.
Lemming
suicide is fiction. Contrary to popular belief, lemmings do not periodically hurl themselves off of cliffs and into the sea. Cyclical explosions in population do occasionally induce lemmings to attempt to migrate to areas of lesser population density. When such a migration occurs, some lemmings die by falling over cliffs or drowning in lakes or rivers. These deaths are not deliberate "suicide" attempts, however, but accidental deaths resulting from the lemmings' venturing into unfamiliar territories and being crowded and pushed over dangerous ledges. In fact, when the competition for food, space, or mates becomes too intense, lemmings are much more likely to kill each other than to kill themselves.

Disney's White Wilderness was filmed in Alberta, Canada, which is not a native habitat for lemmings and has no outlet to the sea. Lemmings were imported for use in the film, purchased from Inuit children by the filmmakers. The Arctic rodents were placed on a snow-covered turntable and filmed from various angles to produce a "migration" sequence; afterwards, the helpless creatures were transported to a cliff overlooking a river and herded into the water. The entire sequence was faked using a handful of lemmings deceptively photographed to create the illusion of a large herd of migrating creatures.

Nine different photographers spent three years shooting and assembling footage for the various segments that comprise White Wilderness. It is not known whether Disney approved or knew about the activities of James R. Simon, the principal photographer for the lemmings sequence.

Nature documentaries are notoriously difficult to film, as wild animals are not terribly cooperative. Many nature shows and films of this era — including Disney's "True-Life Adventure" movies and TV's Wild Kingdom — staged events to capture exciting footage for their audiences. The sight of a few lemmings mistaking a lake or ocean for a stream and drowning after swimming out too far, or being pushed over a cliff during the frenzied rush of migration, has become the basis of a widespread belief that lemmings commit suicide en masse when their numbers grow too large."

man, this looks good. Have to chime in (as all those above), that while the large screen is awesome, this is the type of game that is REALLY asking for a touchscreen! In fac,t a touch screen would make it even MORE intuitive than a mouse control. Still, I managed to play lemmings on the Gameboy, with both d-pad control and miles of scrolling. It wasn't great, but it was better than nothing.

But since I don't have a PSP, I can only dream...

Holy... I didn't know that at all. Just when you think you know the truth behind all the major urban legends, something so ridiculously big and entrenched in everyone's minds turns out to be an urban legend too. With Disney people standing behind it. Wow, just wow...

That's correct. Lemmings originated on the Amiga, and in my opinion that is still the best version overall. That's not to say other versions aren't good--just about all of the versions I've played are worth playing, and I've even tried some really obscure versions like the one for CDTV (played at World of Commodore NY in 1993) and CD-i (played at the home of a friend who used to own a CD-i and nearly 100 titles for it--really!).

I just noticed Team 17 renovated their Web site recently. They added 18 new screens of Lemmings for PSP, which you can see if you click here.

This is one of my most wanted games for PSP, and so far it's looking mighty fine!
