Let the PSP hype begin...

All of the Canadian retailers I've checked with online either have the system priced above MSRP, or bundle it with crap.

Microplay isn't taking preorders so I guess I have to go to EB.

I really can't afford one right now but yet I can't resist.
:(

PSP hype started back in November when Coke was showing the PSP in their movie theater ads for their Sony promotion. :D

Walmart is your friend.

I don't get it... after all the effort in pricing from Sony, the final user gets a mandatory 400$ dolar system with two games that possibly won´t want?.

Suppose that types of bundles are just for big retailers isn´t? I got my Value Pack PSP with RR for 230 Euros (supppose thats is 190-180$)

Nah, as of today that would be $304 US. THe Euro is worth more than the dollar.

I went into work today and the guys in the backroom were talking. We're able to pre-order the PSP valuepack for ourselves without a game bundle, catch is we can't use our damn employee discount, but hey I won't have to spend 399$ on the unit lol.

Crap. Futureshop is the only store I know that replaces stuff no questions asked (VERY handy when you buy devices with LCDs that all can have dead pixels). Unless they are allowing you to select two games of your choice, this bundle is a complete ripoff.

UMDs are going to come with their own style of case, aren't they? I hope they don't use big DVD cases.

I think, or im assuming atleast, that they will use the PSP style cases which are roughly DVD height, but 8cm deep or thereabouts...

Oh man, they gave me a hell of a time when I returned the two GBA SPs I got with stick pixels (bought one, exchanged it for another when I discovered the 2 stuck pixels, then later refunded the 2nd when it had the same problem). Hell, I had more trouble just exchanging the first than I did just returning the 2nd for my money back. The whole experience soured me on getting a GBA SP, so I'm stuck playing games on my original GBA and my GameBoy Player (though I'm not too fond of using that either).

It's also got me worried about getting a PSP, so I'm not getting one at launch until everything cools down and I'll be able to do an easy exchange incase it has dead pixels. I also don't want one of the lame bundles either. Ridge Racer and Wipeout for me, thanks.

Where about are you in Canada? Maybe I should shop at your store :)

1. Yes
2. All signs point to yes, but until someone tests a Japanese game on a US machine, noone knows for sure. Expect this to be one of the very first tests done by websites before its launch date in the US.
3. Probably not. Linked to point 2, Sony mentioned that regional coding is for movies not games. That said, region coding is down to the studio, so early releases from Sony might not be region coded.
4. Nothing. How do you improve on perfection? ;)

I'm hyped about a PSP that gets 6+ hours of time on one charge and has a HDD. Now that is a worthwhile system. The present PSP is underspeced, IMO.

thanks. well the japanese version was far from perfect, sticking buttons anyone?? ;)

well if there is a region restriction on the PSP for movies, lets hope its easy to make it region free by pressing some button compination on the PSP :)

I'm hoping you can turn the Japanese one into a US one by flashing the firmware somehow. Hopefully the UMD drive isn't hardware restricted to region

I saw the PSP for the first time this weekend Holy shit, that thing is unbelievable! It is a tottaly difference experince when you actually have it in your hands opposed to watch videos and all that. I mean, the videos were impressive, but the whole unit and the way it operates is something else.

Sony has really taken handheld gaming to the next level. I personally have never really had a desire to do any hand held gaming, but now I cannot wait for the PSP to come out.
