I have 13-14 issues of the current TMNT. Personally, I think they're alright but nothing special. The story seems fine enough, but it's dragged down by, imo, HORRENDOUS artwork. The humans look like aliens and I really find it very odd-looking. However, I have missed the last 10-12 issues, so who knows what the artstyle is like now.

hmm, cool -- thanks. Obviously they're black and white books but it's true that the quick glance at one I did take awhile ago saw me have a reaction not unlike this. Again, I'll likely start with the older stuff again and work my way through -- see how I like it as it goes. I have pretty much all of Vol. 1, at least all the main story stuff. Black and white as well obviously, but I really like the art in the early the ones.

It's the last 40 years of Uncanny X-Men. I have the Amazing Spider-Man equivilent, and it's awesome. I believe there's a Fantastic Four one as well.

Cheapest way to catch up IMO.

Huh, now that's weird. Cool, but weird. Unfortunately I don't really have any desire to site in front of my computer reading comics. It seemed a lot of the Essential books had the really early stuff. I guess Uncanny is into the 400s somewhere now, but they had pretty much all 1-64 or something collected, and then 94-100-something. Wolverine had 1-90. No X-men Vol. 2 but maybe those could be found by themselves. It's a shame there aren't more, or maybe they're doing more Essentials, but that's more than I could buy or read for awhile.

By the way, why the gap between 64 (or whatever) and 94? It sounded like 94 was when Claremont or someone came on. I guess it sounded like maybe the series was suffereing before that.

Anyway, those Essential books don't seem too expensive so while it's not everything they'd be a good place to start. I find myself pretty interesting in Ultimate and Astonishing (Vol. 3) XMen as well, and those are much easier to find.

Right now I'm reading through The Walking Dead. I'm trying to get through the larger volumes so that I can start keeping up with the series on an individual issue basis. So far I think it is a great series: lots of great drama and emotion, with some fantastic artwork.
the panel where Hershel finds his two daughters beheaded in the prison kicked the shit out of me. my god that was well-done
:lol

I'm also reading through the volumes of Preacher, which is terrific.

I'm a huge TMNT fan myself and I loved the artwork of Vol. 1. But I really just can't stand the artwork for the current series. I wish I could find collected books of Vol. 1 as I've only read a few issues.

QFT

I'll continue picking up the Essentials books until something better (on print) comes out...

Civil War is awesome. I'm thinking Spidey is gonna switch sides, and really can't wait until that happens. It's gonna be such an awesome moment. I'm also very curious to see what's gonna happen at Storm and Black Panther's wedding with the both sides coming together.

Who do you guys think the Daredevil impostor is? I'm hoping it's Hawkeye.

I like this Daredevil even more than the original (or, at least, since the last time I read him). In the first issue at Stark's, he comes off as such a badass.
