I just signed up for the service, and I'm loving it so far.
Keep DVD for as long as you want, have up to 500 DVDs on cue, and one day shipping.
What I'm wondering is, how long did it take for anyone who subscribed to run out of movies to choose/watch?

i mean if a person runs out, they have really awful taste.

i live in the same city as the distro center and at the most i can get one rotation a week. so like 3 a week, 152 a year. isn't a lot of movies. even at 5 a week (like maybe during the summer) is only 260 movies. now finding time to watch all these movies you could get is another issue.

I've seen A LOT of movies, i'm an avid moviegoer; i'm just having a hard time remembering what i haven't seen and what i want to see.
I love the service though, driving to the video store sucks.

I signed up the other week. I get movies in one day, they're out the next, and a new set is back to me in another two days. I around six per week; not too bad. I'm loving it. I thought it would help curb my extravagant DVD spending, but all it seems to have done is make me spend my money on CDs instead. :(

It's really hard to think of movies to queue up sometimes, but I just look in a particular genre, or director, or actor, and BAM! I can come up with a lot of movies to rent.

I almost signed up for Netflix again until a friend of mine referred me to Blockbuster's version of the service online. It's $19.99 per month versus $21.99 for Netflix. You get 3 movies at a time like Netflix, but they also send you vouchers for 2 free in store rentals per month. Kind of nice when you want a specific movie NOW.

The one area that my local video store trumps Netflix in is imported Hong Kong/Chinese/Japanese region-free versions of movies, which you can rent long before they make it out in official U.S. editions.

For example, I just rented Hero last week... Can't do that on Netflix! :D

On a side note to this subject, have any Canucks tried out any of the canadian services, like dvdflix?

Has Greencine added a lot of distribution centers since last year?
Not from what i hear. I'm gonna sign up for blockbusters and netflix which are both giving a free month right now. Which is great.

I'm probably going to sign up soon, also with the intention of curbing my DVD purchases somewhat.

I've got a question though. How do sets with mulitple discs work? Like a television show? Do they send you the first couple, and then the rest when you return the batch? I just want to make sure you can enjoy a full set, as I definitely want to catch up on several television shows.

And what about discs filled with extras? I see some of these are listed separately, like the second discs from The Matrix sequels, but it doesn't seem universal. Are only the listed ones available or are some just grouped in with the film disc in the database?

Blockbuster's service > Netflix's. Cheaper and get 2 in-store rentals. Wal-mart's service is even cheaper, but I haven't tried them.

At BB, DVD sets work as separate dvds, meaning if you want ali g, for example, that will take up 2 selections out of your possible 3. Very lame but what can ya do.

I've been a netflix customer since their early days. They've grown trememndously and deservedly so... they have consistently improved their service every year and kept their prices relatively consistent.

I usually have at least 10-20 movies in my que at a time and I watch about 1-2 movies from them per week. Their turnaround time is only a day or two which is superb, imo. My que usually is kept full because of all the recent movies that are released in the theaters that I just don't have the time to go to and I also fill it with the movies that I hear good things about or DVD's of shows that I love.

Netflix is awesome.

Price isn't everything. Selection and turn around time matter as well.

Agreed. Netflix's service has been great so far. I get my DVDs quickly and Netflix seems to have a more verbose selection of anime compared to Blockbuster, and especially Wal-mart.

True! I haven't used netflix, so i cannot comment on them. But for BB, I signed up at around 6 pm on Friday, and on Monday morning, I had the 3 dvd's. So far so good.

I cancelled my netflix, I liked it at first because of all the curb your enthusiasms... but now I dont have time to watch movies and they would just sit in my house, so i may do the blockbuster one if I am going for the free Ipod...

I've been using the service for over a year. Awesome awesome company and service. I've probably watched 150-200 movies in the last year (SICK, i'm no "buff"), and the turnaround times have always been 1-day and never more.

Netflix>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Blockbuster

You do feel pressure to watch movies as quick as possible to get the most out of your subscription though. I typically get the movies, rip them all to my harddrive, and send them back, so I can watch them while they are shipping new movies to me.

Just take a breath man and watch them when you can. It's only like $22 a month for, let's say 1 or 2 movies per week if you take it easy, like 6 to 8 movies per month which is still a great deal considering you don't have to spend gas and time going to blockbuster to rent movies for 4 to 5 dollars a pop and then return it later or incurr the late fees.

Well, I signed up for both blockbuster and netflix free trials last week. So far, netflix gets the dvds out to me a day sooner than blockbuster. Also, I have 50 movies in my queue at netflix and all of them are available now - of the 12 movies in my blockbuster queue, about half are listed as long wait or very long wait. I think netflix has a slightly better selection, although there are some movies that blockbuster has that netflix doesn't. Overall, I'll be keeping the netflix subscription and dropping blockbuster.

These online rental places are really cool, though. I'm finally checking out all the movies I've wanted to see, but couldn't find at the local blockbuster. Very addictive!

One of the offers on freeipods.com is to sign up for the Blockbuster dvd rental.

Anyway

I just signed up for netflix a week ago, and I am loving it. I did the free month offer, but I think I'll cancel when the month is up and then do the free month from Blockbuster.

For the past 6 dvds I've gotten from netflix, I have done pretty much nothing but sit in front of my tv. That's a lot of sitting since 3 of the 6 dvds were tv shows on dvd.
