Oh yeah, he just happened to accidentally make a movie about a tortured female performer seeking unsustainable perfection, who is haunted by her doppleganger who wants to replace her, whom she kills, after losing touch with reality, having her paintings talk to her, screaming in the bathtub, and ultimately going completely insane, and he just so happened to make that movie AFTER buying the rights to Perfect Blue, which has that exact same plot and sequence of events, and from which he had already stole said bathtub scene in his previous film, Requiem For A Dream. He was just following his muse! I'm sure the fact that he had the rights to Perfect Blue laying around was like... "Oh, those are still here? lol!"I'm pretty sure he said that he wasn't influenced at all by it when making Black Swan.
So is this worth watching?
The animation looks a bit dated.....

EDIT: This thread was necro'd from February 2012, wasn't it.
I certainly hope they continue their Bebop "pedigree" and release the first batch region-free. The US DVD of Perfect Blue is criminal.
Your killing my wallet here!!!!Just a heads up if anyone is interested.
The company that recently released the exceptional Cowboy Bebop Blu-rays are going to be putting out a Collector's Edition Blu-Ray combi pack of Perfect Blue at the end of the month. Once they run out they'll start releasing the standard version according to this website.

Easily in my top 5 feature length animated movies. I really have to watch the rest of Satoshi Kon's work going by how much I enjoyed Perfect Blue. The animation was just gorgeous, and love the cold eerie vibe.

Enjoyed it more than Black Swan.
I wish this would get a North American Blu-ray release. All I have is the VHS and it's one of my favorites. Hell, give me all of Kon's films on Blu-ray along with Paranoia Agent and I would be a very happy man. It's a tragedy that he died so young.
Get a region free Blu-ray player and watch it. Probably what I'll be doing.I wish this would get a North American Blu-ray release. All I have is the VHS and it's one of my favorites. Maybe if you put < instead!Paprika > Perfect Blue > Millennium Actress > Tokyo Godfathers
Proper order of greatness.
Yeah that felt a bit much. Lots of anime features nudity for the sake of it, and this scene felt that way. That said as someone who doesn't like anime, I really like Perfect Blue. Especially the soundtrack.faux rape scene was way over the top, and almost killed it for me, still love it, but could do without the protracted nature of that scene, message didnt work, felt more like it was for pervs than to make a point
Aw thanks man! You've got a heck of a memory because I was away for years. I'd still have the animated version if I could, but I had to pick just one version of my cat that NeoGAF so generously photoshopped and I was always partial to Rikercat. Good to be back!I'm glad you're back. If you ever went anywhere.
One of my favorite posters (and avatars, especially when it was animated.![]()
Satoshi Kon, the director of Millennium Actress, made this, right??? I will give this movie a try simply because Millennium Actress is a masterpiece.
Brilliant.
Word.
Darren Aronofsky "borrowed" the idea for Pi from Tetsuo and the idea for Black Swan from Perfect Blue.
I love this film. Watched it a few years ago and was gripped. I remember being confused at one part thought.
Who killed MeMania? He killed her male agent but i can't remember what happened next.
