Here I thought I found a cost effective way to read few dozen novels I always wanted to read.
I guess its silly to complain about something that's free but condition of these novels is so gross it defeats the purpose. I may as well just buy them as I can threw out the years. Am I missing something or do all book readers eat cheetos, pick their nose and drop books in mud? Heck I got a book that released less then month ago and the stains scare the crap out of me. This cant all be little kids.
:lol

Bookman- Well, let me tell you something, funny boy. Y'know that little stamp, the one that says "New York Public Library"? Well that may not mean anything to you, but that means a lot to me. One whole hell of a lot. Sure, go ahead, laugh if you want to. I've seen your type before: Flashy, making the scene, flaunting convention. Yeah, I know what you're thinking, 'What's this guy making such a big stink about old library books?' Well, let me give you a hint, junior. Maybe we can live without libraries, people like you and me. Maybe. Sure, we're too old to change the world, but what about that kid, sitting down, opening a book, right now, in a branch at the local library and finding drawings of pee-pees and wee-wees on the Cat in the Hat and the Five Chinese Brothers? Doesn't HE deserve better? Look. If you think this is about overdue fines and missing books, you'd better think again. This is about that kid's right to read a book without getting his mind warped! (Pauses) Or, maybe that turns you on, Seinfeld; maybe that's how y'get your kicks. You and your good-time buddies.. Well I got a flash for ya, joy-boy: Party time is over. Y'got seven days, Seinfeld. (Opens the door to leave. Marion, the librarian, is at Kramer's door. She quickly enters Kramer's apartment and slams the door in fear that Bookman might see her) That is one week!

the only people that seem to go to libaries these days is homeless people looking for a place to hang out. That should explain things.

The library where I'm at generally has pretty nice books. Then again, most books I read are more academic than 'fun' reading (i.e., fiction). I actually worked at the library for a while, and I noticed that fiction books were generally in worse shape than non-fiction books. I assume that it's like that for two reasons:

1. The fiction ones are just read more often.
2. The people who read more academic books (history, languages, science, etc.) are more inclined to be book-worms, and so they take better care of their books.

Me, I'm a book whore. When I get a new book I won't even open it all the way, because I don't want to crease the spine.

I know. I'm a nerd.

What sort of books are you reading that are all fucked up? I rarely get any bum copies from the public library.
