Maybe Rachel was seeing Jefferson? Would explain the shame stuff and I think she said Chloe would think he's gross or something in the note.

Jefferson being the one Rachel met feels kinda more cliché than Frank, so my mind immediately blocks that thought (its too obvious, they wouldn't do it). but I guess that depends on what you think happened.

Can we get a headcount? who here thinks Rachel is dead, like so dead?

I vote, alive, well and in hiding for some reason (like being pregers)

I believe there's more to Rachel's story. I mean, time-travel powers, the snowfall, a huge storm inbound, a freaking solar eclipse - just too many fantastical elements for an otherwise mundane mystery case

a popular theory about Rachel we had at the start of these discussions was that she may have had the same time rewind powers that Max has. The evidence for this is that if you take notice how everyone at school (except Victoria) loved Rachel, despite their different social clicks, she was with the Vortex club, with the skaters, was a muse and a model (who always knew which were the best poses) as if someone she was always able to say and do the right things all the time, like if she could I dunno rewind time or something 0_o.

Maybe she had powers and used them so hard she ended up jumping forwards in time by six months (just in time for our story)

oh, good point. On a somewhat related note, I've come up with a rather obscure theory that the reason why David wants to install all the cameras is because they can record when a person suddenly 'jumps' between places (like up to the roof in the last episode). Although that does not really explain why he´s stalking Kate

So did anyone else stand around and wait for the train to come to see what would happen >_>

I could always rewind time. It's not like Chloe would remember or anything....

best you can do this episode is have her shot herself (by shooting the old car bumper in the junkyard), at least then you get to see her writhe in pain as she falls to her knees

So I'm at the end where you have three options to select, and I'm not sure which to go with.

Nathan - I have a feeling the whole dosing thing could be misleading. Even though this guy is a douche, there's no concrete proof. He may not be as bad as the game is making him out to be.

David - He's a hard ass, but I don't think he means any harm. Thought it was weird that he took photos of Kate right before it happened.

Jefferson - He did make Kate cry, even if he was trying to help her. That's the only thing that's 100% here.

EDIT: Went with Jefferson. Probably should have chosen Nathan.

So I just got to
kates suicide and I didn't save her....I really hate replaying and changing what i did in these cause I like to see what happens with the first things I pick but I really really want to save her is it even possible?

You can save her.

yeah you can save her, just don't ignore her and pick the correct options at the end

Guess that's where I went wrong with the very last option of telling her her mother cared for her. I'm gonna have to replay the whole episode aren't I?

nah, you can restart from the end, if you want the correct answer to save her, it's
her sisters

It'll depend on your actions and conversations. There's some background point scale at work likely. I never had to discuss the bible passages. Some probably give no points or negative points, like saying her brothers love her when she doesn't have any brothers, mom might be neutral or 1 point, sisters or dad are like 2 or 3. So once you're past whatever the points required are, she steps down.

I went back and listened to the phone convo that Mr Jefferson had since a bunch of you were talking about it, and i gotta say i didn't find it incriminating at all

I accused the security guy at the end. I didn't have any reason to believe that Jefferson did anything wrong at this point, Kate's pretty prone to crying (understandably). And I knew accusing Nathan of anything wasn't likely to go anywhere, especially since we still don't have a clear picture of what exactly happened.

Also, fuck Chloe. Throwing a fucking fit because I'm not going to ignore a phone call from someone I know is in desperate need of a friend? Fuck off.

Jefferson gives off major bad vibes if you ask him about Kate when she runs off. Says stuff that seems to have a pretty warped view of women, talking about how maybe Kate protests too much. Not only is that a shitty thing to think, it's also a really weird thought to casually share with your student that's also her friend.

This was the first time I ever reloaded my save in a choice-based game, since it was just an objectively bad outcome instead of a morally grey one. I sided with Kate every time except for going to the police and said almost all the right things to her on the roof; only slip-up was forgetting the "correct" Bible verse. It felt a little unfair that, after all the choices I made in her favor, her fate hinged on something that insignificant, so I decided to redo it.

As others have said, really didn't like the Chloe segments in this episode. The slower bits playing with the game mechanics were dull, and the big choices surrounding her were poorly executed. She seemed like much worse of a friend in this episode than the writers likely intended. She had to act really out-of-character to make the choices seem more difficult (most notably with the phone call). Hopefully they scale that back a bit in future episodes.

Overall it wasn't quite as good as episode 1 for me, but I'm still very interested in seeing where things go. I really appreciate the little details like Jefferson's phone call that can easily be missed. Makes it really rewarding to investigate every nook and cranny.

I think he was referring to the fact that she is the one making all of the abstinence posters as "protesting too much", not the fact that she was complaining and is a woman.

But yes, as a teacher, he should be WAY more concerned about her situation than he is. These are high school students after all, even though the whole setup looks more like a university.

I was surprised when they gave me the option to blame Mr. Jefferson.

I hadn't stumbled upon much from him suggesting he had done much wrong besides not being as helpful as he should have been towards Kate.

I was under the impression the Doe is Rachel. So dead but still around?

Thing is, it clearly means a lot to Kate. She keeps notes in her Bible, after all. And if you actually read the quotes she marked, you can see why she would find comfort in one of the quotes but not the other. I mean, yeah, if you're not religious, it's easy to mix them up (which I almost did, thank goodness for having the foresight to screenshot the pages). But even after knowing the contents of the quotes I worried I'd made the wrong choice because the quote Kate likes reads eerily like an invitation to find comfort in death. And for all I know, the only reason I think that is because I'm not religious and don't know the full context behind that quote. Either you'd have to already know the Bible (which makes you more likely to understand Kate) or you'd have to know something about her, maybe have her explain to you why that verse is significant to you, which would imply you were already close to her.

I think he was referring to the fact that she is the one making all of the abstinence posters as "protesting too much", not the fact that she was complaining and is a woman.

Maybe, but that doesn't make me think any better of Jefferson. "Kate totally deserves to be tormented and ridiculed to the point of suicide because after she totally made out with that guy on camera she had the gall to REGRET IT AGGRESSIVELY." Fuck that guy. (Never mind that the abstinence posters probably went up before Kate went to the Vortex Club party.)

Oh, totally agree. I just think he's an apathetic shithead instead of a misogynistic shithead. :P

You don't even need to say anything about the bible verse if you do the convo right (and probably make sure you do everything for kate). One that surprised me was the "Be Strong" option being the right one when talking about the video, felt too cliche. But on my third try I chose it and didn't even get an option for the bible verse, kate just stepped down.

I didn't actually get to the bible quotes when I retry that sequence, I basically passed at the "Stay Strong" choice and then choosing her sister on the next one, when I chose "There are like a billion videos out there" the first time it led to the bible stuff that I failed at at the end.

That's why I reloaded too, was such a crappy answer I got wrong.

edit: yeah what DigtialT said right above me, didn't highlight the spoiler til now :lol

His behavior is totally from someone who has to hide something and don't want a little girl make a so bg fuss that his problems will come to light.

Like Brenda said (the girl who like studying) in epsiode 1 :
she heard a rumor about Rachel and him.

Man i forgot about that, i did think it was weird how he instantly blamed Kate, and also how he got super defensive when Max compared Kate to Rachel, obviously he was close to her and I'm thinking it's an affair, but I also don't think he had anything to do with her disappearance, though maybe he know something and is being blackmailed into silence since the affair getting out would completely ruin him

Yeah I doubt they'd drag it out unless there was some intent for closure.

Did a second playthrough, my thoughts:

  1. I think the devs do want us to hate Chloe a bit. Max can be obtuse at times but I think part of that is because they want stuff to come together at the right time. Max lit into the truck parked in the disabled parking, only for it to turn out to be Chloe's truck. She never mentioned it afterwards. Max is definitely in denial right now and it'll take time to come to terms with Chloe's new self, but I hope she calls her on her shit at some point.
  2. Alyssa must be really close with Kate. Not just for the picture, but because she defends Kate in the classroom and was crying in Warren's arms (??) when she was gonna jump. She wears a cross just like her, I bet they're in Bible study together.
  3. Rachel Amber's letter mentioned that this older guy is scary and has experienced some dark shit. David Madsen? Explains why he cares. The affair would have happened 6+ months before now.
  4. Zach coming in the class and yelling about something going down in the girls' dorm gave me serious chills and deja vu, it's like the Halloween scene in Sorcerer's Stone.
  5. I vastly prefer the Blackwell parts of the game to the outside parts, and not because of Chloe. I just love talking to everyone and hearing side conversations, all the little details in that part. The morning in the girl's dorm was so fun, the girls with no makeup, dancing and chatting and brushing their teeth, it just felt real.
  6. I realized that at the very beginning of episode one, Zach is pressuring Juliet to send him a nude pic, only for Victoria to orchestrate that scandal later.
  7. Dana is adorbs.

So this is really dumb but I just thought of this and had to share it: Chloe says Max could use her powers to bang anyone she wants and suffer no consequences. Well, since Max retains any item she picks up and has on her person when she rewinds, even if she rewinds to a point before picking up said item, would it not also follow that she would also retain any, ahem, sperm deposited inside her person?

Weird, weird thought.

There's only one way to find out.

Well, the ending was pretty damn fantastic, especially that feeling of saving Kate. Plus it at least seems like that fucker Nathan is getting some comeuppance, though probably not for long.

I think the only things I missed out was Alyssa's side story as she just disappeared and I probably screwed my way out of getting into the Vortex Club later in the game. I might go back and change that single piece just to make sure I get in. Wouldn't wanna miss hanging out with all the kids rocking developmental issues now would I?

Is there a way to change some choices without replaying the whole chapter? I didn't accuse Nathan because I figured it wouldn't go anywhere like last time but hearing that he actually gets suspended makes me want to go back. Normally I would say that would be against the spirit of a choice driven game but this game explicitly gives you that power!

Pretty sure they're just being inconsistent with it for gameplay purposes. For instance, in Episode 1 you can't take the picture of David and Kate and also rewind time and step in and stop him harassing her, despite that a few of the puzzles let you do similar things. They probably just don't want people bogged down in being worried about if they are fast enough to solve a puzzle and recollecting things when they already know the answer (like getting the wirecutters in the train scene). The only stuff that's meant to be carried through, story wise, is Max's knowledge of events.

I don't hate Chloe, mostly because it is a bit realistic for her to act that way, of course I'm not going to take all her shit but I think her character will get a chance to develop a bit, the reason she act this way was because right now all she cares about is Rachel who's the only one that stayed with her after Max leaving and her Dad dying and her mom getting remarried to a person she hates, and Rachel gave her the personality she has right now.

She's basically in "don't give a shit about anyone but Rachel" mode right now, I don't like her attitude one bit but it will probably lead to some interesting choices and scenarios, and character development between her, max and Chloe's own family. I think this will come after her finding out more about Rachel who probably betrayed her for another man.

Or maybe she'll act like a piece of shit the rest of the story..

...what? what letter? where is it?

It was in that bucket at a corner of this room I think, or somewhere there:

Im liking Max a lot more than I originally though. <3
And Chloe is atrocious. I dislike her character with a passion.

oh shit, i thought i searched that place form top to bottom

speaking of that, did anyone write their name on the wall? i was going to but got nervous since apparently there would be consequences

I didn't because that would be extremely tacky. Max has been back in Chloe's life for like 2 days, it would be pretty presumptuous to deface their little sanctuary.

I wrote the name on there.

Either Chloe will get pissy about it or love it. At that point, I figured I might as well take action than to back off because of some risk. She had gotten to the point that I wouldn't have been so bothered if she got upset about something... again.

I think I might actually replay before ep3 comes out, feels like I wasn't really paying much attention in ep1 anyway and I'm sure I missed some stuff considering I didn't know all those characters before.

Would be the first for this genre.
