Life is Strange | Spoiler Thread

Guys, be careful. The optional photos for episode 5 has leaked, via Xbox Live Achievements. They don't show any major twists, but there is some questionable stuff shown. Also, I'm guessing an actual trailer will be out later today, hopefully.

I just got fully caught up. Jesus Christ, I'm glad the finale is out this week otherwise I'd go nuts.

Not gonna lie, I'm gonna be really pissed if Chloe is just straight up dead with no way to save her. And I mean Chloe-ass Chloe, not some alternate universe thing. But if Max is out and Chloe is dead, she probably won't be able to rewind anytime soon. With all the focus on choice and butterfly effect and all that, there surely has to be some way to keep Chloe from dying.

It's out in Australia, I've played it, so I guess people are going to start funneling in soon who've played it also, so be warned those who haven't can't yet -- expect legitimate spoilers for episode 5 around here.

Without giving details, were you satisfied/happy/ok with the ending?

It's been emotional GAF....

My body is ready! Off wrk in 2hrs then I'm heading home to play the last episode.
I'm going to predict that
Warren is Hitler & Samuel is the #SquirrelKing and of course you are able to save Rachel Amber, for a price...

This will be quite the ride, GAF hold me tight.

Would you mind giving some context for that image? I'm very curious and impatient.

The penultimate sequence in the episode is an extensive nightmare where Max confronts the consequences of overusing her powers. This involves a lot of effectively disturbing out-of-character moments.

If you have not played, sorry. The image is mostly unimportant. If you want to know exactly where it is from it is just
one small part of a very strange nightmare vision sequence
.

Did you enjoy the last episode? Just looking at Reddit and a bunch are saying it was "unimaginative and lazy". :(

I mean, I don't care, I'm going to enjoy the hell out of it anyway haha :D But interested to know.

Impressions:
The ending(s) are great as long as you don't think too hard about them. The core themes of futility and fate come to a head here, and it's somewhat refreshing that the source of Max's powers isn't addressed. It isn't the most original conclusion, a lot of people predicted it, but it still has tons of impact given how much these two characters have been through together.

There is no happy ending, though, which will always leave some people salty. Nor is there a way to effect the endings with your previous choices.

How you'll feel about it probably comes down to how much
you, like Max, want to "fix everything and save everyone."

Just finished it. I know this is the spoiler thread and everything, but I'm gonna tag my impressions anyway for the time being, it's only been out for hours.

Personally, I thought this was a great ending (Sacrifice Chloe). Predictable, maybe, but still emotional and pretty powerful. What happens if you choose to sacrifice Arcadia Bay? Right now, the split in the final decision seems to be exactly 50/50.

I couldn't help buy laugh when
David confronted Mark..Runs in, gets knocked out, warn him, gets knocked out, tell him to use camera, shot, tell him to kick the table, shot, warn him about the gun, shot.

Was anyone else kinda expecting/hoping
for the sacrifice Chloe ending to be her getting shot, but it not being fatal? Ending with Max thinking "Oh...It would have all worked itself out if I did absolutely nothing."

The trucker was a bit heavy handed basically saying
"I would never have been here if the railyard wasn't closed down." Really wasn't necessary, basically the writers screaming "SEE! YOU DID THIS TO THIS GUY!"

Great ending. I'm thoroughly satisfied. I'm also going to spoiler my post, because honestly: It's a spoiler thread alright, but I don't want to ruin the ending for any poor soul who mistakenly clicked on this thread.

Sacrificed Arcadia Bay first and, well, that obviously didn't feel right. It's also quite apparent by the length of that ending that the developers want you to sacrifice Chloe instead. I did that, then. And it was heartbreaking. There's no happy ending here - but it felt right. The conclusion to the story won't win any prizes for originality, but it doesn't have to. It was predictable, but it was a crazy ride, the execution was top-notch and, damn you Dontnod, I want more. I'll miss Max and Chloe.

So, good ending. Strong stuff. That said...

There is only one real ending. If you chose to Sacrifice Arcadia Bay, then you are wrong. And a monster.

I'm actually really surprised at how "close" the end game choice is split percentage wise. I expected it to be
skewed heavily towards Chloe.

Sad that I saw the ending coming from a mile away. Was hoping they would spin it better but overall I was still satisfied with my choice of
sacrificing chloe.
However if you choose to
sacrifice arcadia bay
I feel that ending is pretty weak. They could have added to it if
everyone died on that ending
. The way it ends on that choice feels like they added it because they had to give the players a choice in fear of backlash. Overall still enjoyed my time greatly with the game. Can't wait to see what Dontnod does next in this format.

I'd wait a bit. Very few people have finished the game.

The game didn't really give you any reason to care for Arcadia Bay.

That's true in a sense. So I guess that more comes down to personal motivates.
I've always been a "The Needs of the Many Outweigh the Needs of the Few" kind of guy, so that pushed my choice.

When you're driving through there is a body covered in blankets. Maybe it is symbolic.

But they really should have made you feel worse for sacrificing the town.

Ending spoilers.
Why was everyone at Chloe's funeral? Most of those people didn't know her in either timeline.

Really poorly thought out scene to end on

I've always been a "The Needs of the Many Outweigh the Needs of the Few" kind of guy, so that pushed my choice.

However, earlier when looking for Warren the game never shows too many people dying in the storm. It is easy to rationalize away the death toll.

No I should have clarified I meant EVERYONE dying in that ending. Like
Chloe and Max as well.
. To me that would have been a bigger price to pay for sacrificing arcadia bay.

With all the corruption, and sketchy characters overall, not really. I wasn't too happy with either ending, but I've always expected that Episode 1 scene to be the most important in the game.

I think splitting the game between two hugely important arcs was problematic by the end. The storm became less important as the dark room became the frontrunner, and episode 5 just felt really messy because all of a sudden, "oh shit, I have to stop this storm too!"

Yeah even earlier on I felt this way. The storm stuff I never really liked, so I wish that could have been structured into something else. Though I can't think of what.

Lots of clumsy game play in this title. Way way way more than the past ones. Still ultimately interesting. In fact it really did feel pieced together in more ways than one.

Welp, called the
sacrifice Chloe
ending from episode 1.
"She's probably gonna have to go back to the butterfly picture in the bathroom."
But I don't feel like that was a particularly tough prediction.

100% prefer the
sacrifice Arcadia Bay
ending.

I was kind of hoping it was a little longer, but the ending was well done but easily predictable, if you understand Max's powers it's easy to see the only real way to change everything.

I overall really liked it and it did a lot of interesting things that wasn't in any of the other episodes, the
surreal stuff like the birds hitting the window in the class room and the weird floating in the ether stuff with Warren, Jefferson and the Principal saying creepy things was really weird.
in a cool way I thought.

It did a good job showing how the
powers were really starting to fuck with Max's head and the world and alternate realities around her, and it hit home the fact that Max just can't keep going back to fix things because the storm is always there as long as the catalyst, Chloe is still alive.

I liked how they handled
David's character as well, the scene with him the dark room was really cool, both alternatives to that scene were really satisfying, it was good to see his character get a chance to shine and not be looked at as bad guy, even though most people knew at that point that he was doing most of the stuff he was doing for what he though was good reasons.

I feel this will be my GOTY, it's story grabbed unlike most games, it's fresh, unique and has characters and themes that are easy to care about and relate to. For Dontnod's first go at the episodic choice driven format they hit it out of the park.

Ugh. I was really enjoying EP5 until the last few minutes where
you either choose ending A or ending B, every other choice you made doesn't matter anymore.

God, that was disappointing. I was entertained up to a certain point until the
terrible nightmare sequence, which brought the plot screeching to a halt and had some godawful puzzles in it. The game didn't recover from it for me, with the climatic Chloe/Max scene drowning in bad writing, cutscene direction and acting.

The ending itself was okay and felt thematically appropriate but
I guess it shouldn't be surprising that none of your choices end up mattering because everything was reset in the end. Kate died? Nope, she's alive. Frank died? Nope. And countless other choices you had to make.

So I ended up
sacrificing Chloe.

One choice I don't get is
that you can cause David to avoid a scar somehow.

My general thoughts
The ending had a lot of different tones, starting with creepy and then weird. I thought it was a bit overstated by devs, though it was disgusting. Then it turns into a Superhero game then the last hurrah, which...was strange. They didn't say "Life is Strange" either.

I feel like this episode had a lot to live up, but couldn't quite finish the job. I mean...it's an ending, but I feel like Max's mortality should've been a choice somewhere but wasn't. There's no Happy ending, but there should've been a bad ending.

Felt the
dream sequence
was a total drag on the episode and if they had skipped it entirely and simply moved right to the
lighthouse
it would have been a lot better. The game has had fantastic elements obviously, but it just didn't fit in, not to mention the
annoying stealth section.

Story question: did it make sense to anyone that
ripping up the contest entry ruined the entire rest of the timeline? Why would that cause the teacher to burn up her other pictures?

Of course
I sacrificed Arcadia Bay. Because between Arcadia Bay and Chloe, fuck that town!
But of course I went back instantly to see the real ending... :'(

She kept the ripped photo in her journal so I guess when Jefferson saw he thought she was wasting her potential and burned it all or something.

Basically
her ripping up the photo = didn't enter the contest so nothing else changed. I still don't get how David found The Dark Room
