Lifetime Plex Pass increasing to $750 from $250

AJUMP23

Parody of actual AJUMP23
That is a 200% increase in price.

I bought mine when it was $75. But I have to use Jellyfin a lot because plex does not work when the internet is down.

I never paid for it, what do you get if you do?

Some customization and other stuff.

But when they removed no playback or internal playback without an external connection it basically killed my love for it. It has a better interface than Jellyfin. But Jellyfin just works.

I almost FOMO bought it before the last price increase, or maybe the one before that. I don't really like Plex's vibe that much. Never heard of Jellyfin but I'll check it out. Mostly I just watch stuff locally on my computer and don't have need of any of this stuff. But every once in a while when I'm traveling I do feel that lack of a proper streaming setup.

Glad I bought this back in like 2015!

Some day I'm going to cash out my lifetime Plex pass and my gaming PC internals, so I can finally buy a house.

Jellyfin is great. Used it last night to watch some Shows when my internet was out.

I have Jellyfin set up locally on my NAS at home. I've ripped my DVD and Bluray movies and TV shows to it. I have their Android TV client on my two Nvidia shields. Great for TV especially since it keeps track of which episodes you've watched with a handy little "watch next" row, and it sorts TV shows into their own section by season etc.

I've also got it set up with an HDHomeRun for local live TV and some IPTV channels that have local feeds from Japan.

When I travel, I have an Android tablet with tailscale that connects back to my home network, and I can use that to load up Jellyfin and watch my shows. It's got automatic transcoding settings server-side, so even if your internet isn't fast enough to stream your files at full bitrate, it'll transcode them on the fly similar to Youtube videos going lower bitrate. Super handy software.
