This is how I understand booting into safe mode:

1) HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON
2) KEEP HOLDING IT DOWN
3) EVEN WHEN IT POWERS DOWN, KEEP HOLDING IT DOWN
4) KEEP HOLDING IT DOWN UNTIL YOU HEAR TWO BEEPS.
5) NEVER LET UP UNTIL YOU HEAR THE TWO BEEPS

This would be similar to how you reset an iPhone. You hold it down through the first powerdown cycle and keep holding it down, until you get the "double-boot" thing.

This is way too weird and complex, how can something be off and then turn back on to beep twice? I'm gonna unplug the HDMI cable, plug it back in, and then not switch inputs with a remote.
