limited run game CEO steps down

1 - company has direction to make a physical version very limited from a thing that people wants a lot
2 - scalpers got their hands first and sells with a higher price

...with his leaving, we will see a change in this pace?

I'm a Video Games Collector and without Limited Run Games there wouldn't exist a lot of physical Video Games!!!

That's why I really don't understand why everyone is complaining about Limited Run Games!!!

Just because you've to wait, like you always wait for a Video Game to Release? Or because you can only order the Video Game in a certain time frame, which is still better than not being able to get a physical edition of a certain Video Game at all?

Video Gamers are just Dumb!!!

I don't think most of the complaints about LRG are to do with the releases being limited. But due to their other controversies such as the 3DO CD-R situation.

It's always difficult to estimate how many copies you can sell. Manufacture too much and you're left with stock that's going to be hard to sell for the default price and will just sit in your warehouse.

I think the bigger problem is that the same company is making shitty moves and cutting costs where it shouldn't (like the mentioned 3DO releases).

I'm a Video Games Player and without Limited Run Games the world would be a better place!!!

That's why I really don't understand why anyone would support Limited Run Games!!!

Alright, that's enough of that schtick. On a serious note, instead of just insulting an entire group of people like you just did, I'll actually educate you.

LRG, (Limited Run Games!!!), fired a woman for literally having opinions a while back. Nothing more, just opinions, but those opinions didn't line up with the 'right think/wrong think' police, so her livelihood was threatened and she was fired.

You wanna support this company? Fine, do your thing. As for me?

Can't wait to see this company burn to the ground.

If you don't support LRG because of how they treated an employee, that's your choice, but let's be honest, most of us financially support plenty of corporations that have done far worse to their employees, whether we're aware of it or not. If you want to boycott LRG, fine. Just don't pretend that makes you ethically pure while continuing to support companies with much longer and uglier track records.

That's it? That is all they have done? Do you have any idea of what bigger companies do? I thought they had made some fraud or something evil...

There's also all the scams they were pulling on the business side creating inflating demand for their "limited" products, and then flipping/scalping them themselves.

There's a long history of very shady things the company pulled over the years.

Well that is different, I'm not in to physical stuff anymore but I thought I heard they were faking evil and I was confused:) I'll educate myself and come back ;)

Just search "limited run games controversy" on Youtube.

"We couldn't get caught because we don't release sales numbers" - Quote from Josh Fairhurts to employees about them reprinting "limited" games that would never be reprinted.

It's impossible to live in modern society without supporting extremely evil companies, usually unwittingly. Ever enjoyed a Nestle candy bar? Surprise - you've supported genocide and child slave labor. Shopped at Walmart? You've helped normalize all kinds of evil including dead peasant insurance scams and leveraging social programs instead of paying your workers a proper wage. Some people literally have no choice in America when it comes to things like local utility services and ISPs that lobby against their customer's interests as a way to keep a legal stranglehold against competition.

But in the case of Limited Run Games, they fired Kara Lynne simply because she tweeted that she was looking forward to playing Hogwarts Legacy. That's it. And while it's easy to rationalize future purchases from LRG behind "well, it's not as bad as what some other companies I support do on the evil scale", it's also a conscious choice to buy a physical game from this company when an alternative exists (buying digital) where they get none of my cash. As others have said, this company also has a history of shady stuff like putting their games on CDRs and scalping their own product (especially the super-ultra-rare-only-a-few-made-ever "promotional games" they make for trade shows).

I don't think anyone feels like a decision to not buy from them makes them "ethically pure" or whatever. For me, it's just a personal choice to stop patronizing them.

Most of the complains come from quality problems.

The CD-R situation was fun, and I'm personally still salty about my Celeste collector's edition that took a year or more I think to produce, and looked way different than what I expected when I pre-ordered it.

That's fair, it's a personal choice. Once we accept that everyone draws their own lines in an imperfect system, there's no universal ethical standard being enforced here. Some choose to support LRG, others don't, and neither position requires moral justification.

I always wished their business model was just to take Kickstarter-like investments to have runs of physical games made, including reprints of old titles that could still be manufactured.

If I give a company money to get me a physical copy that would not otherwise exist (/anymore), then this would be great company and not controversial.

I personally didn't know about that Story.

For which exact Opinion did this Woman got Fired?

Let me guess:
He recently discovered that he likes Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling and therefore felt the need to resign in order to foster a more inclusive environment at his (now ex-) company?

As long as YOU don't Proof YOUR Accusations YOU are Wrong!!!
Jesus Christ.....

Limited Run Games (LRG) has faced various controversies ranging from manufacturing quality and shipping delays to high-profile personnel issues and legal settlements.

Manufacturing and Product Quality Issues

3DO CD-R Controversy (2024): LRG faced backlash for shipping re-releases of 3DO games, such as D and Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, on CD-Rs (burned discs) instead of industry-standard pressed discs. Many 3DO consoles cannot read CD-Rs, rendering the games unplayable for some customers. LRG apologized and offered replacements, citing compatibility concerns with modern pressing plants as the reason for using CD-Rs.
Outdated Software Builds: The company has been criticized for shipping physical versions containing outdated "1.00" software builds despite newer patches being available digitally. A prominent example was the physical release of Yakuza Zero, which lacked later updates.
Missing DLC and DRM: The release of Game Tengoku CruisinMix for PS4 was missing promised DLC, requiring customers to manually request replacement discs. Similarly, the DOOM Classics Collection for Switch reportedly included unexpected DRM, also requiring a manual replacement process.
PC Digital Codes: For the PC release of Shiren the Wanderer, customers received a digital Steam code instead of the physical disc advertised, leading to complaints about the value proposition.

Personnel and Internal Management

Kara Lynne Firing (2023): Community Manager Kara Lynne was terminated following social media pressure regarding her "follow list" and past tweets deemed transphobic by activists. This sparked a major counter-backlash from those who viewed the firing as a "knee-jerk" reaction to online cancellation.
Executive Departures (2025–2026): In late 2025, co-founder Josh Fairhurst stepped down as CEO. In January 2026, he announced he would further scale back his involvement in the company by March 2026, following years of criticism regarding production delays and management style.
Internal Culture Allegations: Former co-owner Douglas Bogart, who left in 2023, has alleged that the company suffered from a "cut corners" culture and mismanagement under Fairhurst's leadership.

Legal and Business Practice Controversies

Data Privacy Lawsuit (2025–2026): LRG settled a $2.72 million class-action lawsuit (Carbone v. Limited Run Games) alleging it illegally shared customer data and video-viewing history with Meta (Facebook) via tracking pixels without consent. Eligible customers must submit claims by January 20, 2026.
"Artificial Scarcity" Allegations: Former employees and critics have alleged that LRG occasionally performed secret reprints of games marketed as "one-time only," such as Night Trap for PS4, to capitalize on demand while maintaining an illusion of scarcity.
Shipping Delays: A perennial complaint involves the company's open pre-order model, which often leads to wait times exceeding one year for complex collector's editions.
There ya go, just a simple AI search later and you're all set. We all know you're going to be disingenuous and handwave all this away, but I'm morbidly curious as to how you will. Fire when ready, I await with bated breath.

But in the case of Limited Run Games, they fired Kara Lynne simply because she tweeted that she was looking forward to playing Hogwarts Legacy. That's it.
Come on. I think you're sugarcoating this beyond recognition. It wasn't because she said she's looking forward to hogwarts. It was because as a community manager she had posts in her twitter timeline that some people thought was transphobic. Namely things like:

"if you think the # of trans crying about using a bathroom is higher than the perves [sic] using the excuse, you are what is wrong with this world"

LRG did an investigation and thought she was a transphobe and not fit to be their community manager. Not simply because she was looking forward to Hogwarts. "that's it". You can argue that she has the right to those opinions but let's not be silly about the reason. I wonder how many here are willing to cheer on Steam's downfall considering they had Domina removed from Steam due to Nic Gorissen's transphobic rants. I'd wager not many.

Sounds like the type of company where if you buy their games, you're all good as long as you dont play it and just keep it on your shelf sealed as a collector. So you dont really care if the game actually works or is missing content. And youre one of those preorder/kickstarter kinds of consumers who doesnt care if it gets delayed and takes forever to release.

found the LRG employee
Nah, it's probably Josh, so that would be "ex-employee"

As long as YOU don't Proof YOUR Accusations YOU are Wrong!!!
Maybe try watching the videos posted to this very thread where people go through the various allegations.

https://www.neogaf.com/threads/limited-run-game-ceo-steps-down.1691912/post-271137678

There's also that lawsuit that just happened which is the real reason Josh or is that you? Is out.

If you are too lazy to even go to Google or ChatGPT to do a quick search, there is nothing to discuss.

YOU accused Limited Run Games, so YOU have to Proof that YOUR Accusations are Warranted.

And not the other way around, it's as easy as that ;)

You are the lazy one here who just posted Accusations without Proof.

But now others did your Job because you were not able to Proof your Accusations.

Oh, shut it. You are beyond ridiculous but I guess you are being paid for this.

Thanks!!!

That's actually Terrible!!!

Now I understand why so many don't like Limited Run Games ;)

Honestly glad it's happening, fuck'em, and on articles I've seen going around about this they echo the same thing.

Their reputation sucks: shipping delays, quality control issues, and using recycled hardware to package "new" products.

Not to mention packaging games without most current updates, making you rely on servers...which kinda negates the a big reason to buy a post-release physical game.

Then the Kara Lynn shit, where following accounts people don't like gets you fired, again fuck'em. iam8bit and Fangamer exist, go there for your needs because Limited Run is replaceable.

Simple. I'm also a games collector, and on two seperate occasions LRG shipped me games that were damaged. I contacted their customer support and they told me too bad. As a fellow collector, I'm sure you understand how important the condition is when it comes to the games you're collecting.
