Limited Run Games - Putting digital games into your hands

2,000 copies is too little. How much more obvious could it be?

Too little for who? If the Futuridium guys wanted to sell only 2k copies, that's their call.
2,000 copies is too little. How much more obvious could it be? Maybe go for 3,000 or 4,000.

That's easy to say when you're not the one risking your money. If there's 1000 copies left in the end, what are they going to do?
Selling out fast is a GOOD thing, and so far almost everyone here was able to get a copy of the games.

How about increasing the print run to a more reasonable amount? The message of these games selling out within minutes has been pretty clear for a while.

Limited Run Games makes Limited run games... yadda yadda yadda... It's not their call; depends on lots of factors; Money available, keeping it limited, what the developers want, etc, etc...

Eventually when everything is stable the numbers will increase to a slightly higher limited run. But for now, this is what it is son.

Well, being fast no longer means you can get one if you're on time. I got every single past release, but this is the first one I miss on the first batch.

It's up to the dev in the end for how many copies are made. If the dev didn't feel it was worth the risk making thousands of extra copies, that's just how it is. This release wasn't some big known thing, it's honestly insane to think that it should have been treated the same as bigger more well known releases.

Wait... what's this about "protectors" that some of you have mentioned?

I was able to order a copy on both platforms at 7:01 this morning. First time using shopify, good experience here.

They're cheap, but pretty damn sweet. Especially, when you have a shelf of games protected in them.

Josh/Doug even used to pop the games into them during shipping so the plastic don't get all banged up.

The store works fine. If you get "sold out", you've been to slow.

How so? I put them in the cart the second they went up and instantly clicked on checkout. My internet connection is fine, as is my computer. It has nothing to do with being slow, it's pure chance.

Being on the other side of the issue for once, I do believe it's not an issue of being too slow, but the server chosen by LRG (Shopify) being a mess. I get that it's not easy to change servers, but it's something LRG will have to do sooner or later, specially if they want to sell bigger releases for a larger audience.

Rainbow Moon is probably my most anticipated title that has been announced. Eastasiasoft has already indicated there will be less than 5,000 copies (on their official site), but understandably are not willing to divulge how much. I’m not even sure if they know yet. I am hoping the number will be closer to Oddworld than Futuridium.

Without fault, my experience has been that immediately putting the game in cart and checking out gets me a game. If I try again after completing my order, I get the "sold out" ""bug"". I tried that every time so far and it has been the same.

Maybe there really have been 1000 people faster than you.

Hmm, it's probably too late to add them to my order. But I'll definitely keep the mind for the next release. Especially for CSH.

This must be mentioned at least every page of this thread.

LRG have said time and time again that it is too much of a financial risk for them to have 1000's of copies.

Yian, you do know that only because it worked for you, doesn't mean it'll work for everyone else, right?

Agreed. The inventory system doesn't seem to work properly. If it allows me to add the game to the shopping cart, then it should remove it from the inventory and then allow me to complete the purchase.

The system is bad.

I do feel Occam has some merit on what they are saying. When you are selling 1000 copies, and probably have 5,000 people trying to buy at the same time, a lot of it is just chance.

It reminds me very much in people trying to get a room for Gen Con. I go to Gen Con every year, and every year trying to get a hotel room downtown when it opens up is just rolling the dice. You probably have 9,000-10,000 rooms available and 30,000+ trying to access them at once.

.

IF the numbers are that lopsided (and I don't think it's that bad, looking at the percentage of people who actually lose out in this thread), then yeah, the runs need to be bigger.

But that's not an issue of the software.

Pressing check out does exactly that.

But that's not an issue of the software.

Glad I wasn't interested in this game. I couldn't take another round of heartbreak after Breach & Clear AND Oddworld :p

Speaking of, did we ever get wind of whether they're relisting Oddworld copies? Because I really want it and will just buy off eBay if not.

I suggested doing in 500 increments

They're going to relist with the extra Futuridium copies.

I just threw out a number of 5,000. But considering how little 5,000 is for even those of us who like niche games like this, I didn’t think it would be an unreasonably high number.

Another thing to keep in mind, is you can’t just use this thread as an indication who didn’t get a copy. There is probably a lot more who didn’t get one, but don’t even bother to post it here.

Well I was looking at the ratio of people who post that they got one and people who post that they didn't. And I'd argue that people who missed out are more likely to post that the others. It's a decent indicator.

LRG already on top of it:

Now this is really absurd and flaunting how he bypassed the limit of one

I caught him. That was bold of them. I don't mind if you sell your ONE copy, but having three just shows you cheated.

Maybe instead of a 50-50 morning and afternoon split, maybe try 60-40 split since most people try for the first batch?

Fuuuck missed the first batch because 1) I was at work, 2) I actually honestly forgot 😱 Not good not good

When is the second batch live? I gotta have this!

I don't get why they'd go to all that trouble, if only for you to point that they're not printing enough copies, which is a moot point by now.

A limited run game not having enough copies you say? It's almost as if its limited or something... lol

But yeah, in this case not really relevant because they only have as many copies as can be created due to the various reasons explained about a jagillion times already in this thread alone...

There's really not much that can be done. In the end people are always going to lose out.

It's tough to find the right balance, clearly.

Selling out in a little over 24 hours like Oddworld PS4 did is obviously the preferred outcome for everyone involved, but finding the right amount to do that ain't easy.

They don't want 2000 copies each of Futuridium hanging around the office.

Here's hoping everything works out for me at 3PM.

One issue is each game will have it's own demand. Meaning, you can't just say "We are going to have 5000 for every game because Oddworld did well by still having copies the next day and still sold out."

Another game you could have 5000 and it would sit for weeks, or even months. I don't know what the time frame is for LRG and the developer/original publisher is on what is considered successful. Obviously the sooner the copies sell out, the better, but if the game doesn't sell out for 2 months is that considered a failure?
