Lol this guy wanted so much to work with Microsoft and was behind convincing Square Enix to make the timed exclusive deal for Rise of the Tomb Raider as the old head of Crystal Dynamics.
After the deal he got the job he wanted at Microsoft and was put in charge of The Initiative and the whole thing ended like a train wreck with him basically fired.
Congrats on the dream job :messenger_grinning_sweat: although Microsoft probably had even too much patience given the lack of results in 7 years.

Tomb Raider as a franchise still didn't recover from that decision.

Man Square Enix really messed up a lot last-gen.

Not Phil Spencer but the other guy.

Boys that Dr. Pepper looks frosty. I'm gonna tell you right now that I would drink that Dr. Pepper if someone left it unattended around me. I know, I know, but I would.

That ain't Gallagher. That's Drew Murray. He went back to Insomniac. Probably saw the train wreck that was coming

That's not him.

He lead them all out of a job, huge accomplishment.
Edited my post. Damn it looks just like the guy. I google darrell gallagher phil spencer and it is the first pic that popped up. I also pulled up direct pics of gallagher and compared him and was like that big toothed guy gotta be the same guy. I feel shame. How are there two dudes with big beautiful veneers working at the same place. The initiative must buy 20,000 dollars worth of veneers for every big toothed man that works there or these dudes use the same dentist and really value that grill.

Some days shit doesn't go right. I try to use bite mark evidence to identify darrell gallagher and get pwned first thing on gaf. What a day boys, what a day.

And they ended up repeating the same mistake with the Final Fantasy franchise exclusivity deal
Square still pulled that exclusivity BS with Final Fantasy as well on PS4 and PS5
That was a compounded mistake too.

Bad product design (who the fuck asked for an entire remake trilogy that changes most things about the game?) coupled with exclusivity and lack of frequent good releases in the franchise = destruction of the franchise.

They are easily the least competent publisher out there. Just look at how they almost entirely torched Eidos' portfolio.

Easiest job out there. You build a studio, find the talent, play of making a game for a few years, then show barely nothing and cancel it later. All of this while leaving with a huge paycheck and somewhat positive karma for your curriculum.

Fuck off.

I would so much want to see a behind the scenes documentary about this. A Perfect Dark reboot shouldn't be that hard to achieve honestly. They had a perfect template to build upon with the N64 original. Was it years long discussion about Joanna Darks appearance? Was it about which dead MS franchise to even reboot? Was it quarrel about first person perspective or third person that was initially reported on? This game shouldn't take 7 year to make let alone not even make it out the door. It's just incomprehensible to me.

Far larger install base to sell the games on. If the deal was good, Square could afford to take the hit of missing a very small number of possible sales on Xbox. Both TR and FF are far more associated with PlayStation. To a lesser extent with modern TR, but definitely still the case when it comes to FF.

Not really.

This is not COD that sells 10M on Xbox, 15M on PlayStation, and over 5M on PC.

At the time of Remake and Rebirth's release, there just wasn't an audience for the game beyond PlayStation that would make it worth it to turn down the exclusivity deal and marketing support they had received from Sony. On top of that, Final Fantasy XV was so fucking bad that it damaged the public perception of the series in the West even to this day.

We'll see how Remake does on Switch 2 though.

He is. People here don't usually give a shit unless it's controversial.
nah

If a project is announced and someone like him is on the team, then then the project is hyped beyond believe, now the entire project has imploded, of course there is no point to hype something that is dead.

I guess I thought Darrell Gallagher was more of a well known person in the gaming industry.

He's got a hell of a resume

No lies, did you know what he had done without googling?
I've been gaming since the early 80s, by name I had no idea who he was, like at all. Not meant as a dis but when looking at the credits I still don't know why I should know of him, I see him credited with late entries in a couple known IPs and studios and special thanks. What is he most known for?

I first knew of him when he worked at Crystal Dynamics. I was a fan of his TR work. Here is a post of mine from four years ago.

The common denominator between The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics is Darrel Gallagher. He ran CD and now he is running TI. So there are already close ties between the two studios. Yes, it could very well could be that TI is in need of assistance in making Perfect Dark. Let's be honest though. Crystal Dynamics hasn't exactly been on a roll since Gallagher left. They need a win and getting their name on the box for Perfect Dark working with their old chief isn't a bad thing. So if reuniting Gallagher and CD brings back the old magic the two had with TR then yeah, I'd say that is a positive. Admittedly, I'm being optimistic because I want this to be a great game, but I don't think we can assume this is somehow signs of shitstorm brewing either.

Of course, I was obviously wrong about it being a shitshow. lol

I met a guy that everyone liked once. People just said to "ask to him", and he knew the right person to talk and work on the problem. The day that someone need him to really do a job, he failed, and continued to fail

Some people are smooth talkers, but sometimes it ends there
