Ok... so, for a long time now AIM has been giving me the "Disconnect, trying to reconnect, 1.2.3 connected" thing. I thought it was an AIM problem, but when I went on Halo 2 on XBL today... I kept getting signed off and signed back into the game. Basically the XBL equivelent to the AIM problem. I have a linksys 8 port router and motorolla surfboard modem... whats the probolem?

Disconnect the router and use only the cable modem. If it works then the router is the problem. If it doesn't its something else.

Well, as for the XBox, you can click on "Status" in the router options page, then click "DHCP Clients Table" to see which one it is. Yeah, you have to switch it if you switch the port unless you make seperate rules for it. Like, you open ports for .101 and .102 so if you switch it to .102 you won't have to worry about it. There may be a better way, but I've never had to find one so I don't know.

Umm... yea, but I dont know the IP of my XBOX to foward them to... also, with port fowarding... must I switch the IP adress EVERY TIME I switch which part of the router something is plugged into?

Either see if you can set up forwarding by using a MAC address (which should be shown in the DHCP client list), or else see if you can set up a static IP for the Xbox's MAC address (under DHCP config).

The particular port that something is plugged into usually is irrelevant.

Just put the Xbox's Mac Address under DMZ, and that should take care of the Xbox Live issues. I had the same problems with a Linksys Router/Xbox Live. Or u can just assign your pc and xbox an ip and forward the ports that way. If Routers IP's is 192.168.1.1/ PC 192.168.1.2/Xbox 192.168.1.3. Subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0 for all. Default Gateway should be 192.168.1.1 for all. DNS Server 192.168.1.1 for all. Then just go and forward the ports u need for what your having problems with.

XBOX Live

Can't you just set your Xbox to have a static IP under the Xbox Live config? I swore I set mine to have that. I'm running a complete Linksys setup that is pretty complicated and I've got no trouble running Xbox Live on it or any other type of networking. I'm using a Wireless Router, a Wireless Bridge, and a Network Storage Link and all work great with the Xbox in the network.
