OK here's the deal.

I'm trying to forward a port on my router for LAG FREE PLAY with my Xbox...but Linksys says I need to set my router to a static IP first. How the hell do I do that?

I'd think putting the XBox in the DMZ would actually be better as far as gaming goes, it basically puts it outside the auspices of the router. Not sure what kind of security issues that opens. Probably none, but, you know...I'm that cynical about Microsoft products. :p

Alright, how do I make my Xbox the DMZ? (demilitarized zone? eh?) :D
Yeah, umm, pardon the technical ignorance, but what does DMZ stand for in this case?

ARGH

There's no Applications and Gaming tab here. And how do I check what the internal Xbox IP is? When I log in, all the tabs across the top are:

SETUP/PASSWORD/STATUS/DHCP/LOG/SECURITY/HELP/ADVANCED

Sorry for all the n00b questions.

Oh, ADVANCED.

Then I believe there should be a tab called DMZ, just look around.

To find out the ip of the xbox, make sure it's on and check STATUS (or maybe DHCP) > DHCP Client Table from the router.

Alright, I'm checking the DHCP Clients table...and there are two IP/MAC addresses here. The Xbox would be the 2nd one, am I correct?

I feel for yah man. I have a wireless network at home and spent hours last night just trying to add a second laptop to it. I had communication between the laptop and router in about 2 minutes. Then spent hours trying to figure out why the hell it could not get an IP address. The dialogs are terrible setting are all over the place it's a fucking nightmare. Not sure how but I eventually just got it working.

If you want to confirm, go

Start > Run > cmd > Enter > ipconfig

then check the IP from there and confirm with the IP from the client table. Whichever IP isn't that, is your Xbox's IP.
