Haha, all the good bands will be in London!

Didn't Geldof decide at the last moment to throw in Toronto? So then all the crappy Canadian bands that didn't get invited to the big shows saw their opportunity.

Honestly, I'm a little embarrassed to be Canadian right now. Our contributions to music is awful. Billy Talent won too many fucking awards at that Canadian music award show recently. Jeeeesus

Haha, indeed.

Rome, Paris, London, Tokyo, Johannesburg, Philadelphia, Berlin.....Barrie.

One of these things is not like the other
One of these things just doesn't belong
Can you tell me which thing is not like the other
By the time I finish this song?

we're rocking the supposed 'indie' scene though. time magazine article and all that.

I live in Barrie. My house is in walking distance to the place where this concert is going to be.

Barrie > Toronto for sure but I wish this stupid concert was downtown. The last thing I want are a bunch of dirty hippies swarming over my highways and clogging traffic.

:(

:lol :lol

Seriously though....this lineup is a bit of a joke. I guess it's good if you're a huge fan of Canadian music, since that's what you're getting. I just don't get why we're even having it. The mayor of Barrie must have been doing some major begging.

I don't know what to make of that. What month?

The Canadians that proliferate and perpetuate this sub-Americana bullshit should be shot. They should be encouraging unique talent that sets Canadians apart. Though I guess mainstream music in English-speaking countries is going to be homogenized anyhow. I can't tell the difference between bands from the US, England, or South Africa these days....

Toronto wasn't able to come up with the facilities on time or something. I don't know, I think this concert is stupid and a waste of time.

Hey I don't want it to be in Toronto, I was just laughing that you said Barrie was ">" Toronto. I agree, I'm not a fan of the concert either....but hey, it's free...and many people are huge fans of these groups.

Barrie didn't have to beg, they got it by default.

1. They wanted the Rogers Centre (SkyDome) but it was booked for an Alcoholics Anonymous convention
2. They then thought of the Molson Ampitheatre but they're setting up for the Molson Indy
3. They thought of Downsview but Toronto refused to foot the $700K difference between their budget and what it would cost

To be fair who the fuck were you expecting, Michael Jackson? Eminem? Led Zeppelin with a reincarnated John Bonham? It's amazing they've got the acts they have in such a short space of time.

That said, it would've been nice if the K-OS, Rush and Robert Plant rumours had panned out. And Matthew Good not being invited is pretty disappointing, considering he probably talks about the issues this concert represents more then any other artist in Canada.

Of course all these lineups eat a bag of dicks compared to London...but what can you do?

I'll probably create an official Live 8 thread over the weekend, where info for all the concerts can be kept in one place. CTV plans to show the Canadian gig, and will cut away to other gigs when the change arounds take place. Let's face facts though...Pink Floyd is the playset most people want to see.

BTW, the tickets for the Canadian show get offered at 10am later today. Pick answer "D" for the question asked, and hope you get yours.

I'm rather glad it's not here too. I fear our average age would increase by a decade.

Oh, and * > Toronto.

No one cares about Matt Good, dood. :P

Buy your tickets for the Pixies and Weezer instead like I did. :D

Edit: But Les Trois Accords kick all sorts of ass. Especially if you understand what they're saying. :D

* The Bachman Cummings Band

So, the Guess Who have gotten back together? That should certainly thrill their fans:

Oh, and I've always appreciated Rush on some level, but since my job has forced me to listen to radio.... I have come to really enjoy them.

I still think just about any other lead singer would be a huge improvement, but they rock with the best of them. Awesome, unique tunes

Though I'll mind Geddy's singing for his talents otherwise, of course. I guess he wrote most, if not all, of their music?

I look forward to Matthew Good's greatest hits album "In A Coma", which contains a bunch of acoustic b-sides and stuff. Too bad he's not involved in this.
