lol I'd like to still be on a schedule where I could do something like you guys.

Same here... I contemplated it but I would end up wrecked during work the next day. I'm just gonna get up around 7:00 CT to catch it and get an early start to the day. About to head to bed now... can't wait to wake up and see the everything!

I'm ready to stay up for the announcement.

Been finishing up Fury mode in Muramasa rebirth, I'll probably be done by the time it's announced.

Lets fucking go!

Guys, fast question, is there spoilers of Persona in this thread? I want to follow the announcement with everyone but I'm afraid of getting into spoilers (actually playing Persona 4).

Not yet that I've seen, but if the announcement does end up being a continuation of P4 then you should probably bail :p

So, is it a point of contention amongst Persona fans about the tone differences between the first 2 and 4?

I've always wondered this, myself. I bought Revelations Persona on a whim, and loved it. I played part of the fan translation for Innocent Sin and it was dope.

Played a few hours of P3FES and wanted to blow my brains out, heh.

I loved the dark, bio-mechanical feel of the 1st 2 games. The soundtracks were friggin awesome, too. When I found out what they did to P1 for the PSP version I was upset, to say the least. It's only made worse by the fact that I can't buy the "original" Persona on PSN and will likely never be able to. Now I've lost interest in the series entirely.

I am 100% certain that this is Persona 5 and it was developed for PS3 concurrently with Atlus USA aiming for a worldwide release on 25 November 2013.

yeah the 3 and 4 are great(more 4 than 3) but i just don't like them as much as P1 and P 2:EP since I find them to be a little simplistic in terms of gameplay and the main plots. No shame in that considering P2:EP is one of, if not the, best RPGs ever made.

I just hope the next Persona moves away from the social link stuff, and gets closer to P2. Still the best game in the series (EP is fucking incredible), and the social link stuff is why I could never finish P4.

Too light hearted, too anime. Not enough of the dark, horror-themed story telling and interesting, unique characters that made P2 so engaging.

That probably won't happen but I could see them trying to reach a compromise between pre and post-P3 Persona as the fanbase has grown up and part of it may want a more mature tone in the next game. In fact, Catherine and the P2 remakes could have been a subtle ploy to get us ready for something darker!

Probably not, but I can dream

If I were to announce a Persona 5, I would try not using P3 and P4 characters in the announcements (or announcements of announcements) because then it would make people think it's a sequel to those games. Each Persona game always came with a mostly fresh group of faces so I would distance it from previous casts.

That's the main impediment to me thinking it's Persona 5, because everything shown has been dripping with Persona 4 themes, characters and motif. Makes it look like P4-2 or P4 Arena Ultimate home edition.

What else would you show then?

Can't wait for the SMT5 surprise announcement. Everyone comes on stage wearing P5 shirts, rips them off to reveal SMT5 tattooed chests underneath.

Seems more like they are delving into the series history to rekindle fan memories in anticipation for the new.

Wife and kids are asleep, and if I go to bed now I will sleep right by the announcement. Loading up on Cherry Coke and Oreos to power me for another 5 hours, heh.

What else would you show then?

New velvet room? Town where the game takes place? Cropped shots of a few dungeons? Philemon?

Definitely not previous casts though for reasons specified, there are neutral Persona related things that you could vaguely show.
