Logitech Unveils Versatile Protective Case and Premium Audio Products for PSP

Wednesday March 9, 10:05 am ET

HANNOVER, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 9, 2005--Today at CeBIT, Logitech (Nasdaq:LOGI - News; SWX:LOGN - News) unveiled its first must-have products for the eagerly anticipated PSP(TM) (PlayStation® Portable) handheld entertainment system. The new family of Logitech® PlayGear accessories complement the sleek PSP with innovative functionality, while reflecting Logitech's renowned design expertise.

Created for the discerning PSP enthusiast, these first products from Logitech include a stylish case that serves as versatile yet virtually indestructible body armor for the PSP, as well as a selection of premium audio options for enjoying all of the PSP platform's multimedia capabilities.

"Logitech has designed beautiful, custom-tailored products that complement the PSP and its unique versatility," said Jef Holove, director of product marketing for Logitech's Audio and Interactive Entertainment Business Unit. "The PSP is an innovative platform for mobile gaming as well as music, movies and more. With this new line, Logitech is leveraging our expertise in design, leadership in audio, and history in interactive entertainment to help maximize the PSP's enormous potential."

Logitech PlayGear Pocket case

The stylish Logitech® PlayGear Pocket(TM) case protects the PSP against wear and tear, scratches and bumps, with its virtually indestructible polycarbonate shell, while allowing complete accessibility to all the PSP functions. The versatile case's lid flips up and out of the way, allowing gamers to use the PSP without removing it from the case -- and still protect their investment. The lid's tension hinge allows it to rotate and stay open at any angle; it can serve as a sun visor for outdoor game play or as a tabletop stand for hands-free viewing of videos or listening to music. The case also provides easy access to the 3.5 mm audio port so that gamers can plug in their earphones while the PSP is fully enclosed in the case. The Logitech PlayGear Pocket case will be available online and on retail shelves in the U.S. beginning in April and Europe beginning in May. The case will have a suggested retail price of $19.99 in the U.S.

Logitech PlayGear Stealth earphones

The Logitech® PlayGear Stealth(TM) earphones provide high-quality audio performance and a comfortable fit for hours of game play, music or movies. The product includes three soft rubber fittings -- small, medium and large -- to allow a custom fit, keep the earphones in place inside any ear, and provide a comfortable seal that improves the bass sound quality. The earphones also feature neodymium stereo drivers capable of producing large sound despite their compact form. The Logitech PlayGear Stealth earphones will be available on retail shelves and online in the U.S. beginning in April and Europe beginning in June with a suggested retail price of $19.99 in the U.S.

Logitech PlayGear Amp portable speakers

The sleek Logitech® PlayGear Amp(TM) portable speakers will provide rich and loud stereo sound from the PSP device for music, movies and games. The speaker set contains a PSP bracket that holds the device for easy, hands-free viewing. With a collapsible design and an included carrying case, the speakers are easy to pack up and take on the road. The Logitech PlayGear Amp portable speakers will be available in the U.S. beginning in June and Europe beginning in July. The speakers will have a suggested retail price of $79.99 in the U.S.

Logitech PlayGear Share audio splitter

The Logitech® PlayGear Share(TM) audio splitter creates a pair of open 3.5 mm ports, allowing friends to use two sets of headphones or speakers simultaneously on one PSP device -- twice the fun when listening to movies and music. The Logitech PlayGear Share audio splitter will be available on retail shelves and online in the U.S. beginning in May and Europe beginning in June. The audio splitter will have a suggested retail price of $9.99 in the U.S.

That case isn't bad. I'd definitely want to get something like that if i'm going to be carrying my psp around in my bag.

Thanks sonycowboy!

The case looks pretty decent and I can't have the PSP naked with it's scratch loving power. Need to protect the poor thing against itself. A definite purchase for me (speaker setup not a bad idea either).

The case and the speakers are both wicked. Especially if they can match the black sheen of the PSP.

That case looks like it will be great to plaster with stickers as well. :)

It says this case won't be available until April, so I'll have to buy an inferior one in the meantime I guess... It's the best looking one I've seen though!

On paper those earbuds sound whole lot like Sony's MDR EX71. They looks surprisingly good too, not to mention 2x as cheap as 71EXs... If their sound is simillar quality and perhaps louder, I'd give them a chance. The in ear fit is the big thing though, EX71 use really great rubbery material.

so they're basically selling stuff that comes with the 'value' pack anyway?

oh wait, now i get it, for $40 i could get a GOOD case and GOOD earphones instead of $50 for sony's shitty bundled ones?

fuck sony

Hah, now that's cool looking. I don't know how practical it'd actually be, but damn if it wouldn't look cool on your desk...where you probably already have a computer with gigs more MP3s on it. ;)

The Value pack doesn't come really come with a case. It comes with a cloth cover. But if it makes you feel better.

Why doesn't someone just make the stand for it. It's a pain to have to hold the PSP through a movie. that stand by itself would be perfect to set the PSP on a desk.

They should make a device that attaches to a hat and holds the PSP such that it hovers in front of your face for those in-route movie watchings.

looks almost like there's no room to put your hands around the psp when it's on the speaker thing, so that would only work with movies. have to see a better pic though.

I'm getting a screen protector already, but what I really need is a comprehensive case solution that'll store the system (securely and safely) and a bunch of discs, case that'll keep well in my bookbag. I've got something like that for my SP (retired) and my DS already. (Both by the same company, both endorsed by Nintendo).
